With all the pompous glances Starr knew he was in the right place. The Irish Palace. He was applying for a job there, after Lexi had settled down she wasn't much in need of a servant anymore. They were still close friends though, which was great. Starr had tried many different jobs since then but it turned out that he enjoyed being a servant too much. So when he found out that Miss Branna Leila of Ireland was looking for a servant, he was eager to apply. He hadn't heard from Branna in about eight years. He remembered bringing her the easel to her room, the bonding that occurred and the relationship that blossomed straight after. They'd broken up when he went to USC with Alex and Starr hadn't heard much from her since.
He'd tested his negativity before coming to apply by thinking of Branna and all the good times they'd had as friends. It was hardly likely that she'd stayed single all these years. So he wanted to make sure that if he was going to be her servant, he could also be her friend. He introduced himself at the gate though it was unnecessary, most guards recognized him from when he dated the Irish princess. He was let in and directed to Branna's room, where he presumed the interview process would take place. Then again he couldn't see anyone else around, maybe his application had been the best. Maybe Branna herself had already chosen him, best not get his hopes up too high though.
He'd presented himself well. He was wearing a formal suit and his hair was swamped in blessed hair gel. Starr remembered the first time he came to see Branna at the palace he needed supervision, thankfully now they were both adults. They needed no chaperones. Especially as Branna was likely to be expected to take the throne as soon as her parents were ready to give it up. He knocked gently on her door and waited for her to respond.

Ten long years had passed since the day Starr brought the easel to Branna’s dorm room at Vineheart Academy during her third year. She had really loved him, it was no secret. They dated happily for two years, though once it came time for Branna to choose a college, Branna and Starr had parted ways. Of course, Branna hadn’t really wanted to break up with Starr, but it seemed to be the only way. Eight years had passed since they had broken up, and to say that they were eventful would be an understatement. The Irish king was poor in health, having smoked and drank his entire life, and it was finally catching up to him, which meant that his first child and heir would soon take over the throne, though the public was still unaware of how close their beloved Crown Princess was to taking the throne. Her father of course, had one condition that still reigned even after the past ten years, before she could take the throne Branna had to find a husband. She was almost twenty-six years old and her father was growing restless, he had once again threatened to find a husband for her, and now she knew he was being very serious.
Her ex-servant, ex-boyfriend, and ex-dance partner Kieran, had recently gotten married and decided that he could no longer work for Branna as her PA, so she was forced to find another. A notice went out saying that she was looking for a servant and PA and let the hundreds of applications come pouring in. Branna, being the stubborn and still independent woman she always had been, said that she would be the one who picked her own PA. She needed someone who could catch on quick and know how to deal with her random mood swings and her late nights.
Not even one week into her search, Branna picked up the last file in her second large stack, only to not look at the name and start walking towards her art room so she could possibly work on something other than be cramped in her study looking over resumes, background checks, etc. Coffee mug in hand Branna took a sip of her coffee before taking a large sip of the hot liquid, only to spit it out and drop her mug once she saw the name on the folder. The mug broke and hot coffee covered the floor; some had even landed on her feet, though the only thing that Branna could even think about was the fact that there was a recent picture of her ex-boyfriend staring at her. ‘Dear God. I need to sit down.’
She thought numbly before moving to a seat in the hallway where she practically fell into the chair. A week passed after that, and Branna had set up an interview with Astarpio, she didn’t know if she was really ready, though she knew she had to be. She remembered all the fun times the two had, and how she had always really cared for him, and had never really stopped, but she was still a fearful little thing and still hardly let anyone really into her heart. Kieran had been sweet, but he hadn’t been Astarpio and both of them knew it. Branna had even gotten two tattoos after breaking up with Astarpio, one on her shoulder that had a Shakespeare quote in Old English that said: “We will all laugh and gilded butterflies.” Her next tattoo had been a quote in Old English text that said there once was a little girl who never knew love until a boy broke her HEART.” that went down her ribcage. Really the press had only seen the one on her shoulder as it was noticeable when she wore dresses with no back, but no one save a few people have seen her ribcage tattoo. For this interview, Aisling had actually picked out her clothes as was now usual when Branna had a meeting, interview, or special event. Branna wore a camel belted cashmere/silk dress by Ralph Lauren, black studded pumps, along with a single strand of pearls for her neck and a matching bracelet, a Irish Celtic knot cuff bracelet on her opposite wrist, a green emerald and silver ankle bracelet, and a green topaz claddagh ring on her right ring finger as she was not engaged nor in a relationship at the moment. Her hair was down and held a kinked look to it, almost as if he was wet though still looked pretty and healthy. She heard the knock on the door and felt her breath leave her for a moment, knowing who was behind the door. Taking a deep breath, Branna opened to door to see a very clean and professional looking Astarpio. A man, who still somehow managed to make her heart beat faster than anyone had ever been able to manage. “Hello, Astarpio… wonderful to see you again.” She said quietly, and opened the door wider for him to come in and sit down in one of the chairs in front of her desk in her study that was now connected to her bedroom. Starr gratefully stepped in with a polite smile on his face. He noticed the coffee stain on the floor of the hallway he was moving out of immediately. The servant in him wanted to clean it up. He wondered when she had coffee in the hallways, he didn't remember that being a particular regular habit when they were together. He knew that if he were to get the job, he needed to take note of Branna's habits. He hadn't seen her in eight years so he had a lot to catch up on. Naturally he kept himself straightly posed after bowing to the future Royal Highness. Even with all that they shared together, this was still a job interview. He wanted to prove to her that he was formal enough to be her servant without emotional ties if she desired it. "And you, your even more stunning than I remembered." he complimented, tempted to take her hand and kiss it. In good grace he didn't, he wasn't a charmer like that.
He had been worried he wasn't ready to see his ex again but he felt comfortable enough. He took a seat after her indication that he could do so. This wasn't weird at all. Except maybe the fact that his eyes couldn't stop lingering on the dress she was wearing, the jewelry, the whole outfit that just made Branna buzz sexual appeal. He knew she wasn't married, he wasn't that lacking in the knowledge of the Irish monarchy, but that didn't mean she didn't have handsome suitors, nobles and perhaps other royals chasing after her. He wrote off the pounding in his chest as pre-interview nerves. After all this was his first choice for a new job. From dating Branna he knew the ins and outs of serving her, of the Irish monarchy as a whole and not forgetting that it was one of the few palaces that let foreigners apply. He couldn't think of many other countries that would accept Greek servants in the palace when the country was meant to be promoting it's own nationality.
"Is there anything you need to know not specified on my resume?" Starr asked, resting his clasped hands on his lap. He was proud of himself for keeping up formalities when he'd kissed those lips and touched her in ways that he hoped no other man had touched her. Though she wasn't his anymore, the pleasure of working for her was definitely better than nothing at all.

Branna watched Starr curiously, she hadn't seen him in eight years and of course he aged, but he seemed to have gotten even more handsome in Branna's eyes, though she tried to push that thought away. 'He is applying for a job, not asking you out again. He's probably moved on by now.' She scolded herself quietly before giving him a small smile. "Thank you Astarpio, you look good as well." Branna remembered the times when she and Starr were together, when she and Starr held hands while walking the gardens and him watching her paint in her art room, and most of all, Branna remembered how he was the only man to ever make her feel completely happy and whole. Kieran had tried, but they both knew that it would never work, not when Branna's heart still belonged to a certain Greek. The breakup had been a mutual decision, but Branna had quickly regretted her decision shortly after, though being the stubborn woman she still is, she stuck with her decision and tried to cut ties with Starr so not to wonder "what if" and "what should have been, what could have been". Branna also knew that she'd never be able to see Starr with another girl, though she did try to move on with Kieran, she believed that it would help her get over Starr but it only seemed to make her miss him more.
Many men had tried to get after the Irish Crown Princess after her break up with Kieran, and even during her time with Kieran, but she would have none of it. She knew no man could live up to Starr but that didn't mean she was going to beg him to take her back. She had been the one to stop the communication and she didn't want him to hate her for ignoring him and then wanting him back. She thought it was better for both of them to try and move on and for Branna she just didn't think she could handle seeing Starr as someone who wasn't hers and eventually who would be someone else's. She knew it was selfish of her, but she couldn't help it, she was a bit selfish. Suddenly remembering her dress was slightly low cut, Branna reminded herself to sit straight though she had taught herself not to give away her emotions so easily as she had in her younger years when she dated Starr.
Clearing her throat, Branna looked down at the list of questions she had to ask him Branna nodded and skimmed the page before looking back up at him. "Yes, now this is going to be a bit personal but it's for my safety and my family's safety. Do you have anyone who would possibly want to harm me or my family to either get back at you or would anyone you are close with became angered and or jealous at the fact that you and I will have to be around each other for the better part of the day? For example, a significant other or an ex." Branna almost dreaded this answer, though hated to ask it more. She didn't want to know if Starr was taken and or had someone who had been as close as they had once been. She and Kieran had kissed several times, but it never went very far as Branna had never felt right when he tried. She could only remember Starr holding her and touching her in those ways and she didn't want anyone else too, though she really knew she had to get over it.

Astarpio listened intently as Branna confided that the questions would be of a personal nature. Considering the close proximity between Starr and the Irish royal family he expected it. After all, he was a representative of the Irish monarchy now. And he all too well knew that his personal life had to be clean as well as his presentation. He hoped Branna and the Irish royal family trusted in his experience. From childhood up until recently he had served the Grecian princess, henceforth he knew every rule in the book about being a good servant and could probably write an updated version of said book. "But of course." he accepted graciously with a nod, ready for any relevant personal question that he could answer.
While he may understand the Irish royal family's need for safety, Branna gave herself away a little in her final examples of an ex or significant other. She could've inquired about any aspect of his relationships that put the family in jeopardy. Rivalries, enemies, people that held a grudge, known criminals, anyone he knew with resentful prejudice against the royal family. Instead she shot for the example of an ex or current partner that might be jealous. What else could he assume but that she secretly wanted to know of his marital status? He suppressed a smile for the sake of the interview. "I assure you, your Highness, that I don't associate myself with anyone of that nature." he answered cleanly.
It was a relief to Astarpio that Branna was being so professional. After all, he liked knowing that he could apply and obtain a job (if he did get the job) on his merit rather than from the fact that ten years ago he'd dated and later seduced the Princess. He had more pride than to want to achieve anything from any benefits other than the hard work he put in for all of his life. Astarpio sat patiently like an open book and waited for the next question.

Branna's parents had loved Starr when he dated Branna, which had been somewhat of a surprise as Branna's father had always pushed Branna towards royals and nobels, but seeing his little girl happy he let it go and liked that Astarpio managed to make Branna happy. Nodding once he understood, Branna couldn't help but smile as he was acting like the ever polite man she had loved.
Mentally, Branna smiled when he replied to her question, though on the outside she simply nodded, wrote his answer down, and continued to look over all of the questions that she was to ask him, though she already knew most of the answers to the questions unless he had rapidly changed over the past eight years. Then agin it was possible he had. Comming across one she didn't know the answer too, she looked up at him again and clicked her pen ready to write the answer on the sheet of paper. "Are you okay with working late at night? I tend to not sleep until the early morning hours and wake up late. Would you be able to work with that?" She asked him and once again looked down at her paper to skim over the other questions while waiting for his answer. Branna had always had trouble sleeping, at times she just never got to go to bed, especially during school when she had actual hours she had to work. "Have you rapidly changed in the last eight years or can I just put all the stuff I already know about you down and this silly questioning be done with. I know you're a worker and I know that you won't do anything to hurt me or my family. So unless you've rapidly changed we're done, but I do need to know if you are okay with working the hours I work. Oh, and one more, are you afraid of hospitals and opposed to being in one? I'm working there for a little while and until I take the throne I'll be working there."
Branna was professional, but she knew the answers to all the questions asked on her paper. She remembered him inside and out from when they dated all those years ago, but she needed to know if he changed because then he would have to answer those questions. Branna could honestly say, she couldn't see Starr putting her or her family in any danger, but things change and eight years is a long time. Plenty of time for people to change.

"As you've already been made aware, your highness, I am an insomnia sufferer and therefore I am ideal for staying up." he felt like he was really in the zone with this interview. He was sure to be the perfect candidate. If nothing else he was sure there wouldn't be many if any applicants that had worked as a servant previously for as many years as Starr had. Branna's parents liking him was also a fair tool in helping him get the job. Maybe it was wrong to think that way but connections was how one got employed in the first place.
He realized that if he said that he hadn't changed at all in the past eight years then they'd be at the edge of this interview. On the other hand it was a crucial undertaking for him that he got no special treatment. "Well I've only changed in that I'm wiser, more insightful, I have a better idea of who I want to be and what I want to achieve out of life. I have a University degree from USC. Other than that no, not a bit." he clarified, pausing before adding "With a slight alteration to my answer there, I have a degree from USC but I did also take a year out to work on the BBC HD channel in England, which I'm sure you read on my resume atop of my years as a servant."
The final question left Starr impressed. He hadn't pictured Branna working in emergency services, he imagined she'd make a fortune as a painter. Though he couldn't inquire, not in this formal atmosphere. "Congratulations." he wished her, already imagining she'd have a rival since Starr knew he'd love to work in a hospital. Would love to help people. "I'd be fine in a hospital, perfect actually, as it's one branch of work i only explored during first aid top-ups." he smiled, standing on his feet as Branna had said that they had reached the final question at the hospital inquiry.

Slightly smiling at him, Branna nodded, remebering the countless nights she and Starr would just talk on the phone, or if they were close by each other, meet and talk the entire night away. It had always been nice to have someone who was a night owl like herself for a boyfriend. She didn't feel bad for keeping him from sleep because he, like her, had trouble sleeping. "Yes, I remember." The last two words had been a whispher and probably hadn't been heard, but it was possible if he was listening close enough. No applicant had been anywhere near as qualified as Starr, that much Branna knew. She hadn't even really needed the interview to know that he would end up being who she chose, but she still had to be professional.
Happy with Starr's answer, Branna nodded her head and looked down at his resume and her questions once again to make sure she didn't miss anything. "Yes, I remember hearing that but I didn't know for certain." Branna hadn't heard from the Grecian heir in a little over two years, though it wasn't as if she had meant to stop talking to Alex. It was just that the had never been overly close with the Grecian princess, and after she and Starr broke up and going to two different colleges on opposite sides of the country the two had just lost touch.
Once again, Branna smiled, only this time it was very genuine and not so guarded. "Thank you." Branna loved working in the hosptial, even though she'd only get to work there for another six months to a year, she loved being around and helping out as much as she could. She unfortunately would have to give it up once she took the throne, but she would always donate money to the hospitals that needed it, espceially the ones that specified in child care. "Great." Branna looked happy, though really on the inside she didn't know what to do. She wanted to be professional, but she also wanted to just throw her arms around Starr and kiss him like she used to all those years ago. Standing up Branna offered Starr her hand to shake. "Astarpio, Starr, I have looked over dozens of applications and had various interviews, and deliberatly saved yours for last. You have the job, you can move here to the palace or you can live in town, it's your choice." Moving over to the desk and taking a business card from a small pile, Branna handed him the card. "This is my cell phone, personal line, e-mail, fax, pager, hospital pager, and all of my other contact information." Taking a stack of papers off the desk, Branna then handed him those. "This is the first week of next months schedule, that's when you start." She explained to him carefully and slowly enough for him to digest the information.
Branna felt her phone vibrate and quickly read the text message from Aisling, who practically told Branna to talk to Starr more. Taking a deep breath, half scared that he'd reject her, Branna looked up at Starr and gave him a small smile. "Now that the interview is done, would you mind going to lunch? I haven't eaten yet and I think we need to catch up, after all we're going to be seeing a lot of each other now." Of course, Branna also just wanted to spend some time with him, even as friends. She didn't think that he would take her back though she couldn't be certain, she wanted to talk to him first and make sure that her feelings were definitely still there for him and not just rememberences of what they had when she was younger.

Starr knew that even if she couldn't remember his insomnia, there were probably dark marks under his eyes that reminded her all the same. He tried to sleep it just eluded him often. In this case though it seemed to work to his advantage, since Branna didn't sleep well either. It came as no surprise to him then that Branna was entering the medical profession, even on a voluntary basis. They often needed people for night shifts, Starr didn't know why he never thought of it before. He obediently look his schedule, eager to start straight away, even though Branna had specified that he couldn't yet. He had to wait until the schedule in his hands came to action, the first week of next month. In fairness it was August 31st, the next month was tomorrow. He could wait one day.
"Thank you Princess." he bowed as customary for a servant or any civilian should do in the presence of royalty. Starr's pride turned to confusion as Branna asked him out to lunch. It seemed too deja vu of eight years ago, he wondered if she was considering starting things up again. He hadn't been prepared about that outcome and knew he'd have to think about whether that was the right move for them professionally before anything happened. "I've already eaten I'm afraid, but you'll see me tomorrow bright and early, we can catch up then?" he could feel the weight of her disappointment before she even reacted. He knew Branna, anything that felt slightly like rejection was a big deal for her. He wished she was less like that, because he couldn't reject her in a million years. He just needed to think.

Branna had noticed the dark marks under Starr's eyes, but she had similar marks under her own eyes only hers were well hidden under makeup. It had gotten easier over the years to hide the dark marks under her eyes. Branna got tired of hearing her grandmother complain about how it looked as if Branna was busy partying instead of sleeping, so Branna started covering the darkness with makeup. it just worked better than having an old retired Queen after you. Not really knowing why she hadn't just said he couldn't start work until the next day and instead said the first day of next month, Branna almost laughed at her little brain slip. 'Oh well, not much else I can do.'
She thought to herself with a small smile. Nodding her head, Branna turned her smile to him. "It's fine, Starr." Branna had always hated being bowed to unless completely necessary. "Please, no more bowing unless it's a special occasion where you have to." She told him quietly. When he said that he had already eaten, Branna did feel slightly rejected and disappointed, but she wasn't going to let it get to her to much. She couldn't read too much into everything and had no idea what she was doing. "No, it's fine. I tend to forget to eat and wait until everyone has eaten already. I'll see you tomorrow." She said and played with her pearl necklace. "Oh, are you going to live here or in town? If you live here then I'll have to get a room set up for you. If you're not sure yet, I'll set up a room for you anyway and you can use it when you need it." She told him before brushing hair behind her ears. "It's been nice seeing you again, Starr." It was a truthful statement, she meant it, she had missed Starr but she had no idea how he felt about it. [/blockquote][/blockquote] -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Tag: Starr<3
