With a smirk, Meinrad got to his feet and walked toward the window. Pride evident in his face, he opened the window until a fat slit was sending wind into the room. He took a long suspicious sniff then shut it again. "And there. I have, as you put it, 'sniffed the outside a little bit'," he grinned, literal meanings were fun to tease people with. Mein remembered when he was a pre-teen (when he'd just started working for the German royals) the phrase 'caught red-handed' used to be applied to Meinrad for being caught pretending to play doctor by drowning his hands in spaghetti sauce, behaving like it was blood. Those were the days. He'd had an awareness even back then that Xav was going to mean a lot to him in years to come.
He knew Xavier well enough to know that he was going to kick himself out of bed tomorrow morning just to prove he could. Meeting at 5am, Meinrad dreaded what time he was going to get up to get dressed and ready. Meinrad would most likely throw something on at 4:55 and pretend he'd been up for hours, just to tease his buddy a little bit. Meinrad's smile also rose substantially when he mentioned the blogger, "your right. nothing of the sort. and even if there was, we don't know anyone here and they don't know us, why would anyone care?" Meinrad shrugged with a small inaudible laugh before his smile drastically declined again. The blogger, the reason he was alone. Being reminded of it had brought it all back - the questions, the what ifs, the question of what Marie was doing right now.
"It's late and we're up insanely early tomorrow. I think we should head to bed." Meinrad stammered, probably because of the beer though rather than the emotions flooding through his brain. He'd finished his final beer for the night, he was certain of that. "Night Xav." Meinrad avoided his friend's eyes and pretended to be looking at his watch, though the time wasn't registering. "I'll see you tomorrow." Mein summoned a smile and his gaze touched Xavier's for maybe two seconds at most.
