She smiled brightly when he told her he liked her idea. That was something new, because honestly, people didn't generally take her ideas. Granted, being the captain of the volleyball team she had some authority, but even there she kept it to a minimum, it was a team choice, and she only got the final say when they really couldn't decide. Like, really really couldn't. Otherwise sure, she suggested things for Aubrey but those weren't normally decisions that would make a huge impact or something, and the princess tended to go with her own flow anyway, though Ellie liked to think she was helpful, or almost always helpful. Or so she hoped, at least. She let the topic of counting flowers drop for the moment, as the man was back for their orders.
Ric ordered ice tea, but Ellie was in a bit of a dilemma. She didn't normally indulge herself, she just took water. She had the distinct impression, however, that Ric might not be too happy if she didn't start relaxing more. So this little baby step would be a first for her, in a lot of ways, when she took a breath and smiled up at the man who was waiting patiently on her. "I'd like apple juice with water, please." She was always, infinitely polite. That had been her way since the moment she could talk properly, her mother and father had both drilled into their daughter that being polite was the only way to go. She'd never insulted a person in her life and she didn't see herself starting now, by all means, obviously not. She would much rather find a hole to hide in than insult someone.
His hand was warm over hers, and she was getting used to the feeling. Actually, it felt pretty safe and secure, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing in her book. No, it was good. Her skin had cooled down a bit so she wasn't blushing a furious red anymore, but the slight tinge to her cheeks remained while he spoke, praising her like she was someone really important. This made her look down, though she didn't pull her hand away. "You say that like you're talking to a princess," she murmured in answer, peeking up at him again shyly, "which I'm not. I'm just a servant. Well, I was. I don't know anything about being a royal - I know everything about how to serve one. Nothing how to act like one." In truth, she was slightly terrified of that one.
That, and the fact that she would suddenly be Aubrey's equal. That was even more frightful to her than anything else. Shaking out of her toughts before they could get her into danger, Ellie looked at their server again, waiting for Ric to order and wondering what the man thought when he saw them sitting hand in hand like this. Still, there was no going back now. "Do you recommend today's special lunch?" she asked the older man, listening to him explain the meal, and making her decision, "I'll have that then, thank you." She gave him another warm smile before looking back at Ric.

Everything with Ellie seemed so well thought out and almost scripted as if she was watching what she was saying and doing every moment that they were together but he knew that being comfortable around him was only going to come with time and he did not expect that of her, not yet. He could tell that she was usually like this though, she planned everything and was very organized. He could only hope that one day he would be the one that she felt the most comfortable about and to be able to feel like she could tell him anything and that he was not going to judge her, he did have a secret of his own that he needed to tell his future wife but it was too soon for that he needed to allow her to get a little more comfortable before anything like that since it really was not something that he was proud of and he needed to think of a way to tell her since his parents were really the only ones that knew, and he was even taking a risk in telling her though he did know that he could trust her. A smile was shot in the direction of the man who walked back up the stairs and in their direction it was clear that he had sectioned off this side of the restaurant for just the two of them since he was the type to know that Ric was not going to want anything to disturb the time that he was getting to spend with her and it would be too much right now for her to have to deal with the publicity as well especially since Ellie had not told Aubrey about it as of yet meaning that she would not want it to go public. He was fine with this it just meant that he was going to have to be a little more careful. He asked for their orders and he waited for her to order before making his own order of iced tea.
After that the man then walked off to give them a little more time to look at the menu and decide what they were going to eat before he would return with their drinks. She allowed her hand to remain with his and for a moment thumb ran gently over the back of her hand while he looked up to finish speaking and noticed that she was looking down. You are a princess, in fact you are better than that, you are a future Queen. He told her quietly. You already act much better than any Royals I know; you will not have a problem with it, trust me. You have seen what the ‘Queens of Vineheart’ are like, you are much better than that. As the server came back with the drinks he did not move his hand from hers but instead pulled the glass towards him with his free hand. He had already decided on lunch and watched as she asked him if he recommended the special and after the small speech she decided on it and a bright smile crossed his lips as he ordered and then turned his attention back to her. This was something that he could definitely get used to, he was spoiled to even get to be around her never mind be able to marry her soon.
When their food returned it had seemed like it was no time at all and he took his hand back since the two of them were going to need both hands in order to eat their meals, he placed his napkin on his lap before picking up the cutlery. The food proved to be just as delicious as he envisioned and he paused for a moment to look across at her. How is your meal? He asked, he wanted this to be a good experience and he wanted to make sure that she was pleased with the food because that was something that was key and very important to him. He finished his meal peacefully before placing his hands back in his lap and waiting for her to do the same, the server coming back just in time to take away the empty plates. Would you care to take a walk with me around the floating gardens? He asked gently standing from his seat and offering her his arm once more in a polite and gentlemanly manner. The stairs were taken slowly and by the time he reached the bottom he produced a card from his wallet to pay for the meal and after leaving a generous tip and saying good bye to the man that had served them they were walking back towards the door. This time instead of heading towards the car the path that ran around the gardens, the view was spectacular, when they reached the area that lead over the bridge he paused halfway across to turn to her and wrap his arms around her unexpectedly even surprising himself. I am sorry, forgive me, the hug earlier was far too brief for my liking, but the wind and cold was bothersome. While he was much taller body conformed around hers in a soothing and comforting way, yet another thing he could get used to. He did not know how she was going to respond to this.

Everyone had been thoroughly nice to her since the beginning of this arrangement, though granted she hadn't spent much time with his younger brother yet. Either the boy was avoiding her or she was just being paranoid. She would have to change that at some point, she was sure of it, after all she was to be his sister-in-law, there was no way they couldn't get along. They needed to, for the sake of the kingdom and well, for the people. Being with Aubrey, Ellie knew a thing or two about what royal discord could mean to the people of any country, no matter whether it was between the married couple or between the relatives of the spouse who was to rule. In either case the scenario hadn't turned out too well, not in her opinion at least.
Listening to him speak, Ellie focused on the soothing motions his thumb was doing against the back of her hand, knowing that she was very close to arguing her point further. But she dropped the subject, for now. Of course she hadn't been raised for a Queen, only for a servant, therefore she had a lot to learn, but she would learn it if it meant easier transition for her. She was sure Bella would help her if she asked, her friend was resourcefull and just amazing when it came down to things like that. It probably came from serving Dante all the time. When Ric mentioned the Queens, Ellie scrunched her nose in automatic response. No matter what Aubrey did or aspired to do, the others and especially the Queens weren't on her list of favourites. "I NEVER want to end up like one of them," she said passionately, "They're mean and backstabbing and horrible. They don't even deserve to attend Vineheart with their attitudes." Her lips pursed.
Her mood was lightened considerably when their meals were brought out, and she pulled her hand away from Ric so she could eat the food properly. Her napkin was placed onto her lap and the cuttlery unwrapped. The smell coming from her plate was delicious, she would definitely enjoy her meal. It was even better than what she had imagined really. At his question, she gave him a smile, "Delicious. I never thought Mexican food could be this good, I've never really eaten it before, not like this." She was a safe player when it came to food, she didn't want to experiment much, though she had a feeling she'd be doing a lot of that in the coming weeks, and months. And years, given that she was going to rule Mexico at some point, a point that was fast approaching. She didn't even know what to think about that yet, she still hadn't really reflected on it much. Happy that her hair was out of the way, Ellie finished her meal with no mishaps, and a full stomach.
Ric's suggestion was met with obvious enthusiasm. "I'd love to do that," she admitted, careful to put her cuttlery down and the napkin from her lap, before she stood and followed him back down the stairs. For her peace of mind, she didn't dare ask how much the meal had cost - this was something else she would probably have to get used to at some point. Her heels weren't as loud against the ground this time as they walked up a bridge, before he took her by surprise by hugging her. Ellie's breath caught - she'd only ever been close to a man once before Ric, and that had never felt like this. Starr wasn't Ric, the difference was obvious. Her hands were caught between them and she just froze slightly, not really sure how to react to this. In the end, she tentatively placed her hands against his arms. "It's ... okay," she told him, blushing furiously and not enjoying that fact, "I understand. It's just - think you could give me a warning next time? I'm not ... used to this," she breathed with a shy chuckle and a weak smile. But she didn't pull away.

As soon as she was going to be become a little more comfortable with all this he knew that his entire family was dying to be able to spend some time with her to get to know her before they were all of a sudden related. Though they had understood when Ric came to them and told them to take a step back to make sure that they did not overwhelm her with their hospitality and did not scare her off, after all they were going to have a long while to get to know her she was going to be Queen after all. His own brother had been off on his own little planet and really he had not seen the younger boy even nearly as much as he usually had. He knew that he was taking it a little harder than others, the arranged marriage for his year older brother was just a reminder to him that they were growing up and soon the responsibilities were going to be much larger and he remembered just last Christmas where the two of them had discussed the fact that he hated that they were growing up so fast. He knew that the younger boy was not meaning to be rude but he had made himself rather unavailable for the trip and the time that they had all been spending in Mexico he was probably off somewhere partying as he tended to do in the summer. He was a little more like Dante, though he did not have the same womanizing streak that luckily did not seem to run in the blood of the family since Ric could not picture himself ever sleeping with people that did not mean anything to him, it was simply not right and he could not get it through his head. He knew that while she had not really met him as of yet it was not going to be a problem since their temperments were a lot of the same, they were laid back and tended to get along with everyone as long as the person did not do them wrong and really he could never picture Ellie ever doing anything to wrong them, she was far too reliable for that.
Anything that she needed help with she hoped that she would realize that she could come to him and he would do his best to make sure that she knew everything that she needed to know before their wedding and then again before he was crowned, the two events that were not actually that far away and already it was making his head spin, he had always had the thoughts that he was going to attend some sort of a university and that had never been a problem with his parents up until this year where everything changed and he needed to take the throne as soon as possible to make sure that it was secured and did not fall into the hands of the advisor since he was sure that there was some sort of rule there that the advisor could not rule in the place of the Royal family for a set amount of time. Dreams were forgotten though and other ones were formed anyways. He always had wanted to be King so therefore this was not a problem to him it was just a little unexpected in the way that it had happened and a little sooner than he had been accounting for. He laughed a little when she adamantly stated that she never wanted to be like the Queens and this caused a brilliant smile to cross his lips. I am glad. You are far too sweet to turn like that. He uttered softly.
He was pleased that she seemed to be enjoying the food and this was confirmed when she stated that it was delicious and she could not believe that Mexican food could be this good. I assure you it makes going back to Vineheart with the American food very hard. Luckily my brother is quite a lot like my mother and cooks nearly as well as her so sometimes I am able to convince him to cook for me. He told her, when they got back to Vineheart he was going to make sure that he made a time for the two of them to be able to spend some time with his brother knowing that it would be a better bet when school started again. She seemed excited when he asked her if she would like to walk around the floating gardens with him and after their meal was paid for they set out onto the trail. When they reached the bridge before he was even able to stop himself he wrapped his arms around her in a hug, this might have caught her by surprise but she did not pull away from him. She was blushing and this provoked a sensitive look to cross his face as hand reached up to brush a strand of hair away from her face, he was not going to push it any farther though knowing this was not something that she was comfortable with. Of course. I am sorry. He told her politely. He did not mean to catch her off guard and realized it was only fair to give her more of a warning after all this was so new between the two of them. After a moment he allowed his arms to drop and instead took her hand and led her over the rest of the bridge and to where they could see the bench and look out area from the restaurant, it was a spectacular view of nothing but flowers as he sunk to sit on the bench.

The fact that her new family was so open and welcoming towards her was definitely something to look forward to. Ellie knew she wouldn ever have been able to agree to this if his family didn't like her. It was just something she'd been brought up with, you were spposed to like the family of your future spouse, otherwise there was no point in getting married at all. There would only be trouble, and a lot of it. She was still worried, due to the fact that his younger brother had sort of avoided them whenever they came in view, though she was sure it couldn't be her. Why would he dislike her so much when he didn't even know her? No it had to be something else, something she had yet to figure out, but she'd come to the bottom of it at some point. She would make him see that she wasn't a threat to anything in his world and home. Just an addition.
It sounded even scarier when she thought about it this way, but obviously there were things that she would have to get used to. One thing was sure, however, and that was that she would never, ever be like one of the Queens of Vineheart. She'd much rather have someone smack her all day long than act like that. She knew what they did and how they acted, and she didn't want to get even close to that. She was glad Ric thought she'd never be able to be one of them. "Just in case, I give you full permission to yell at me if I ever go that way," she said in a teasing voice. She'd yell at herself first either way, she wouldn't be caught dead fraternising with someone who was as bad as they got. Like Aubrey, Ellie didn't think much of the Queens, especially Leena. That girl was trouble with a capital T and the sooner she was out of Vineheart and away, the better.
Listening to Ric speak about his brother, Ellie smiled. "That sounds amazing actually. You're very lucky." She paused for a moment, considering, worrying her bottom lip with her teeth. "Think he'd want to cook for me too?" she asked after a moment, "I want to get to know him better. But if this is something you guys do as brothers, I wouldn't want to impose." The last thing she wanted was for Ric's brother to think she was invading his own personal space. That definitely wasn't in her plans for the boy, given that he was only a year younger than Ric he probably was moodier and well, if he hung out with his cousin a lot, she could probably say she knew what happened to the both of them. The prince of Spain wasn't known for being the angel on Earth.
Speaking of personal space, her own had just been thoroughly invaded, but she refused to believe she was not going to get used to this. Instead she smiled tentatively up at Ric in thanks when he agreed to warn her next time. Her hand felt small in his when he took it, but she followed after him across the rest of the bridge. It was so beautiful here. Ellie's breath caught again as the many flowers seem to come bearing down against them, and the fragrance in the air was just hypnotyising. "This is amazing," she said in a soft murmur, a bright smile on her face.

While he knew that everything was going as it should with his family he could not help but wonder what her family was going to think of him. He was nervous for getting to meet them even though they had not made a time for that as of yet but when he had been talking her father on the phone the man had been sure to tell him that they needed to come and visit whenever everything settled down and perhaps when they were back in school and things started to get a little more in order. He promised the man that it would happen and that he would see to it personally and he found her father to sound as though he was a little intimidating but also knew that this was something normal for the husband-to-be’s future father in law and if anything that was making sure that it was feeling more real to him. He knew that his brother avoiding them had not been on purpose since the boy was really not like that but he was going to make sure that the three of them were going to spend some time together to make sure that she was going to feel welcome with all of the family he knew exactly what was going through the younger boys mind. His younger brother had always been the type to be afraid of commitment and therefore getting involved in an arranged marriage would be his worst nightmare and he had not yet come to the realization that it was not going to happen to him since it was a very special circumstance with Ric and Ric had been one of the ones to be a person to support it. He needed to have a talk with him to assure this, his parents were not big on arranged marriages as they were trying their best to incorporate a more modern system since everything like that was so archaic so this had come as a shock.
Eyes were rolled when she told him that she was going to give him full permission to yell at her if she ever became like one of the Queens and this caused him to laugh lightly. Its impossible. He uttered gently with a small smirk. He knew that she would be the type to stay away from the girls like that and really he did like that idea since it would mean that he would get Ellie to himself a lot more often if she was not worried about being around the Queens, he wanted to make sure that the two of them got to know each other very well over the next school year and it was something super important to him. When he mentioned that his brother was a very good cook this seemed to be something that interested her and he knew that he was going to have to arrange for the boy to cook for them when they were back in Vineheart, he was in his element when he was cooking so this would be a lot easier for him to be a little more relaxed around her which was essential for the first time that he was going to spend with his sister in law. I think he would love to, I will try to arrange it for when we are back at Vineheart. When she then told him that she did not want to impose if it was something that they did as brothers he shook his head. It was only that way because I had no one else to join me before now. And sometimes he would invite one of his friends. I think it would be something that he would really enjoy. He told her that he was sorry for not warning her when he had hugged her and promised that he would give her fair warning before it would happen the next time, it was addicting though and he was already missing her being that close to him even though it was something that was so different and completely unknown to him.
Since it was the middle of the day and it was during the week the place was almost abandoned since a lot of the people of Mexico that usually came here would be at their jobs and working so it seemed like it had been a perfect time to take her here since he was not going to have to worry about getting mauled by people that tended to love to talk to him since he was going to be their King next year after all. This was something that he had gotten used to and he tended to be rather charming when it came to the public eye, something that pleased his mother. Never a foot wrong seeing as there was no room for error anymore since he was having every step analyzed. Sitting on the bench his gaze washed over the flowers before turning back to her when she stated that it was amazing and a small smile settled on his lips. It definitely is. Coming here never gets old. He murmured with a smile. So now if you could do anything at all right now, what would you want to do? He asked her quietly.
