take time to realize that your warmth is

There had only been a few state dinners. There had been a few sessions with the King's cabinet. There had been weeks spent on the beaches of the Ionian Sea, windsurfing and para-sailing and cave diving. The entourage his father had insisted on was a bit too much, but Edon really didn't mind the attention. Being back in Montana, he missed the grainy sands, the stellar, turquoise waters and the vibe that it made it feel like home again. It felt like coming home to set foot on the campus again. He realized it would be the last time he ever crossed over on the old walkways and looked up at the buildings with the same feeling students always got seeing a school for the first time after a long summer break. Trepidation that it was starting again, eagerness to get it on with and the whole feeling of just wanting it over with. The gardens were the complete opposite of the Albanian beaches. The beaches were crowded with families and teenagers, filled with the smell of coconut oil, dolma and fry bread and there wasn't an ounce of quiet to be had. Ed thrived on noise but he didn't mind the quiet every once in a while. He dropped down onto a patch of grass and closed his eyes to the sunlight. It wasn't hot sand, but it was more comfortable. A few more minutes of this and he'd be sleeping, hat over his face, just another casualty of warm light and early morning flights and serious jet lag. He was just glad they had a few more days before classes began. He didn't want to think about classes right now, though. He wanted to think about about the sunshine and none of the worries that frequently plagued his mind. Before his mind could wander, he was already laid out, pushing his hat over his eyes and inhaling deeply. Relax. Just relax. The sun trickled gently through the princess' dormroom window and fell across her bed, making the purple silk comfortably warm. Aisling was laying across her bed on her stomach reading but the words kept dancing off the page and pushing her mind away from it's focus. The day had been a rather lazy one for her and she was becoming a little restless. Four walls couldn't contain her for very long. Aisling rolled over and looked outside. She and Reena had an amazing view of the sprawling campus. Ais smiled as she watched a few other young royals enjoy the last fleeting moments of freedom before classes commenced. She sighed as she thought about the coming school year. This would be her third year at the Academy. Between school work, sports, and being a co-protege' her plate was filling up fast. Staying busy was always a good thing for Aisling, she just hoped she could keep up with it all.
The princess's eyes turned up to the bright blue sky and her smile grew in size and her worries about the upcoming year vanished. The sunny weather always made her feel better. If only Montana had a big beach, then her world would be complete. Ais decided instead of wasting the day in her dorm, which she could do when the weather turned cold and nasty, she would take a much needed walk through the gardens. The princess jumped up off her bed and slipped into some white tennis shoes. Aisling grabbed the book she had been reading and made for the door. Before she disappeared through it though she turned for one last look into the mirror. Satisfied with her appearance, Aisling grinned and left the dorm.
The gardens at Vineheart were always amazing. The late summer flowers that bloomed still gave off their strong scents, almost overwhelming anyone who passed by. They filled her nose with their sweet auromas and made her feel content and relaxed. She hadn't been paying attention to where she was going so when she realized there was a person laying in the grass, Aisling was a little surprised. She stopped dead in her tracks, trying to figure out who was dozing in the warm sunshine. His face was hidden by his hat, so her task was a little more difficult. "Oh...umm I didn't mean to intrude."

It was the combination of warm sunshine, the last of summer's flowers and the faintest hint of fragrance. There were distant sounds of leaves rustling and laughter and voices. But none it mattered to him as he inhaled and exhaled, mind lost in blissful non-existence. That was when he heard a voice slogging its way through his sleep-muddled mind. The voice was female and it was distant. " Mmm," he sighed, not wanting to open his eyes and feeling the need to say something. " Do I have to get up now?" He had a feeling that what he had just said wasn't the most intelligent thing in the world. He moved his arm and felt the cool tingle of grass and his eyes snapped open under his hat. Instead of the brilliant sunlight, he found himself staring into the inside of his hat. His nose crinkled as he reached up a finger to flick the hat off his face just enough to let some of the light in. " Hello, stranger," he said, spotting a feminine pair of legs. His senses were returning to him now and he felt the last traces of sleep dissipate. His eyes slowly drew upwards to a familiar face. Her name was at the back of his mind, but there was a disconnect between brain and mouth and he felt himself drop his eyes. " Not a stranger," he murmured sleepily as he pushed the hat up further to better look up at her. She was someone he knew or, more specifically, someone that his sister knew. He recognized her from some event last year. " You're not intruding on anything. I was just..." He wasn't all that disappointed to see someone and his next thought was: you can intrude whenever you want to. Feeling another yawn coming on, he tried to muffle it with his voice. " It's... err... Aisling, right?" A small smile crept across her face. The boy's words weren't exactly what Aisling had expected him to say. He sounded like he had been sleeping in the sun, which sounded quite nice to her. Ais felt a little bad about waking him but she had a feeling he wouldn't mind very much.
When he flicked his hat back onto his head, the familiar face triggered something in her mind. Arianna's face flashed through her mind and she realized instantly who this had to be. Ari's older brother was definitely someone worth waking. "We've most certainly met before. I never forget a handsome face." A bit of color rose in Aisling's face after she said the words. Ais was a naturally flirtatious person and Ari's brother was definitely the type to bring her natural talents out.
"Well in that case...mind if I join you? That bit of grass looks comfortable and I could use some company." She said as she dropped down next to him, her knee brushing against his as she moved around and became more comfotable. Her blush only deepend at that point. She flashed a bright smile when he remembered her name. "Yes...and you're Edon right?" His name finally coming to the front of her mind.

" The grass is perfectly fine and just a little warm and it smells really, really good." Now he was just babbling, which was perfectly fine on a good day but right now, he felt the slightest hesitation. Now where had that come from? She sat down, her knee nudging his. He looked up at her, eyes set to 'puppy dog playful' and noticed that her cheeks were just a little red. Was it the sunlight? Or was she blushing? If she was blushing, it made her look adorable. " Yes, I'm Edon," he said in his long-suffering tone. " I blame my father for that name. It's Ed. Or Eddie. Or anything, really." He slipped his hands under his neck, lacing his fingers as he watched her for a moment, admiring the way the sunlight swept through her hair, the way the breeze lifted a few strands and fanned them out. The effect was sort of dazzling and he couldn't help but stare. Then he realized that it was just a little rude to stare and turned his gaze out to the sun, wiggling his feet a bit. That was when his knee nudged her leg. It hadn't been on purpose - entirely - but it felt a whole lot like fun. Or at least pushing buttons and he rather liked to push buttons.
