He had this sinking feeling that he just could not shake at the moment and he knew that it was regarding Mira, something was going to happen tonight and he just could not place his finger on it. The two of them were back to their usual antics, well at first it had been without the sex since they were certainly not going to take that risk again but it did not take long for the passion to consume them and for it to become apparent why they went through all the hassle of both being stubborn and pig-headed, it was worth it in the end. He was feeling a little different though, he was finding that he enjoyed spending time with her even when they were not tangled in eachothers arms, he liked just being around her and talking to her and he had come to the realization that his feelings might be a little more than just skin deep he might be drawn to her on another level as well and to Fred that was terrifying and it was a place that he had never gone before. It was dangerous and he felt like he was taking a dive off the deep end; he did not date never mind develop feelings for a girl that was supposed to be nothing but his sworn enemy and there he was standing in his room looking over the suit that he was wearing for the winter gala and wondering if Mira would approve, why the hell did he care anyways? He did not allow anyone to have an affect on him like that but all he could do was think back to the first day of the term where the two staged their fight in the hallway and he had felt so guilty for yelling at her in the way that he did. He didnt have a conscience and he did not care what biting words were barked back in his direction so why did he all of a sudden care? He shuddered at the feeling of almost sensitivity that seemed to be consuming him since it was not at all like him. He really needed a drink in order to numb his mind and get rid of all these feelings but that was not allowed because of the stupid pain killers that were still going through his system, the dose had been lowered again so by now he was able to start feeling the ache through them but the doctor told him that was good thing because then he would know not to strain the knee and eyes were just rolled, if the doctor knew how much of a pain in the ass he was to deal with on the best of the days he would not subject Fred's room mates to being around him when he was in pain. He took a seat on the edge of his bed, he did not even know why he was going to this event to begin with, ok well yes he did, because the sight of Mira in a dress was enough to drive anyone insane and he was going to be there to steal her away after the event was over, that was his only agenda for the evening so after tucking his phone into his suit jacket pocket he stood without the use of his crutches, he was past the use of them now, they suggested the use of a cane but he could not think of something that looked worse than hobbling around like an old man. He needed to get back to the rest of his life even if it was the last thing that he did.
The door of the room was locked behind him since the other two from the room were long since gone and steps were light and slightly cautious along the stairs, he timed it so that he would be a lot more than just fashionably late, the people there would already be bored of being at the event that was hosted in the ballroom and would be going their own ways and he would just have to say a few greetings and be on his way as well, after all they would not even notice if he was there in the first place since it had been a long time since he had a fight with Mira in public and the last time before their staged one this year had been at the River Bed party where she soaked him with her drink and that night was enough to cause him to smirk lightly. The feeling of being dragged by the girl who supposedly hated him from a party in the middle of the woods was something that you would never forget who knows maybe they would relive that tonight, but he really doubted it because lately they were not stricken with the rages that brought them together in the first place and while it was a strange feeling he did like the feeling of not having to watch his back every time it was turned to her but he did miss the adrenalin rushes of fighting with the girl that could hold her own against him. He was usually left stewing in internal conflict and later when they had their agreement at least their frustrations could be taken out in intimacy. Pushing the door open to the ballroom he did not even give much attention to the decorations, it was all the same to him and all things that he had seen before. He made his rounds, speaking with and greeting all of the Kings, even Ric even though he was tempted to make a snarky comment towards the Mexican prince, in all reality he was a little jealous that the man's life seemed to be taking shape in a way that none of them would have expected, an arranged marriage working out? It seemed to go against the entire grain of what they believed in and he knew that he would fight against it if it was him, it was just the idea and to him it did not matter if he got along with the girl it went against his morals. He would never subject his children to that, he flinched when his mind crossed that subject; he knew what was expected of him but it did not mean that he liked the thought, children were not in Fred's life plans and certainly not something that he wanted to think about after the pregnancy scare with Mira. He was not meant to be a father and there were just some people who were simply not cut out for it, but he was forced since the lineage needed to continue with the Swiss Royals. He was surprised that he had not even laid eyes on the Bulgarian princess as of yet since it was common for him to be able to find her in any crowd as he then took a step back from the nauseatingly boring conversations. tagged; mira

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best Her hands smoothed down the sides of the dress, making sure everything fit perfectly against her body. Tonight, Mira definitely thought she looked like a siren in her blood red, form-fitting gown that complimented her notable curves. The Winter Gala was a special occasion thrown by the school that acquired all pupils to look fabulous, and Mira was not going to disappoint tonight. Not when her favorite set of eyes would be fixed on her -- Fred. She didn't normally try to look good for one certain person; usually, she just looked good so she could tease the boys, but tonight all she could think about was how crazy Fred was going to go when he saw her in this dress. Truthfully, she could have gone way more provocative route, she which was prone to do, but the fitting and the color of the dress worked for her in a way little clothing would. Mira carefully pulled her long dark curls into a high bun on her head, pulling back all of her hair out of her face save for a few locks that fell down the sides. Mira also didn't normally do updos, but because her dress was bare in the back, she wanted to play up that factor by keeping her hair out of the way. She never put much thought into getting ready, but for some reason, she really worked diligently this time, making sure she looked flawless before she left. Her olive skin was glowing, her bronze eye shadow sultry, her eyeliner applied perfectly -- she'd taken care for the past hour to make sure she looked good. Her roommates had noticed, too, before they'd left thirty minutes ago, chiding her about working so hard for this event when normally Mira barely looked any different from her normal school days. She'd waved them off, but their words had gotten to her; the more she thought about it in the silence of her room, the more she realized just how obvious it was the painstakingly lengths she was going to get ready.
After attaching dangling gold earrings to both ears, Mira spritzed her pulse points with her favorite perfume, and then another long look in the mirror. She looked like a glammed up version of herself, a Hollywood star in her sexy red dress. Who could resist her now? No one, she thought. She'd made sure to wear some of her nicer lingerie underneath the apparel, knowing how this night was going to end. She most definitely expected to run off with Fred after an hour or so into the Gala; her room would once again be empty tonight, as her two roommates had decided to have another sleepover. And, Mira had a slight hunch that they'd given her the room simply because they'd noticed just how much she was dressing up, and that could only mean one thing: that she was looking good for a boy. She was certain they didn't know it was Fred, but all the same she was grateful and irritated at the same time. A satisfied smile crawled up her lips and Mira grabbed her clutch before walking out the door. As she made her way down the two flights of stairs and onto the first floor main hallway, Mira checked the time. She was nearly an hour late, maybe longer. This was usual, so she knew no one would surprised. When she made it to the doors of the Ballroom, Mira paused to peek inside, and she was delighted with a view of classy, wintry decor. A relatively upbeat song was currently playing, and so Mira slipped in unnoticed, making her way over to the punch table. She was praying the punch bowl was spiked, but as she poured some of the drink into a plastic cup and took a sip, she realized that it wasn't. Disgruntled, her dark eyes roamed the Ballroom, watching the array of dancers to look for any signs of a certain prince. Finally, she spotted him, and he was looking rather disgruntled. Probably by the annoying crowds, she figured, and Mira poured some more punch in her cup before taking off in his direction. As she passed him by, she shot him a look, the sides of her lips barely curving into a grin. She did not stop, though, but made her way towards the back of the room, in one of the corners where barely any light hit -- a place they would not be seen in, or at least not recognized.

He felt like he needed to sit down but right now he was much too stubborn, he had no interest in sitting in the corner of the ballroom looking like a stick in the mud or like he was waiting for anyone at all. He would much rather be standing and moving around the crowd saying hello to various people that only managed to bore him after a few seconds of small talk, he could not believe that he was so intent on finding the one girl that was going to make his entire night worthwhile. He wanted to see her and he wanted to see what she we wearing tonight, knowing that she would be just as stunning as she had been on her birthday and the yellow dress was still etched into his mind, how could he forget something like that. That night had been different than the ones that they usually spent together, sure there was always the sexual tension as there was between them but they were nothing but innocent. They spent a night together just hanging out and it had been just as powerful as when they were intimate. He had seen all her room mates but there was no entrance from the Bulgarian princess as of yet or so that he had seen, she could have snuck in at some point when his back was turned but he did like to think that he had a certain radar for her. He paused for a moment in front of the punch bowl but he had no interest in the beverage there, it was all the same at every other event and he might be acting a little like a spoiled brat but he felt like he was a little kid that was being made wait for something by his parents but then eyes turned towards the other side of the room when he spotted the red dress. The dress was not what his eyes laid on first though, one of the most attractive things about her in his mind was the dark hair that usually was loose along her shoulders, tonight it was pinned up though and it caused him to swallow the nerves that formed, since when was Fred ever nervous? This was a new feeling for him. He turned back to another member of the younger years that seemed to have tapped on hs shoulders and that was the moment that he was sure that he looked digruntled with the disturbance could they not see that he was busy? He did his best to look completely unapproachable but there were certain people that were all willing to test the waters and see just how much Fred was going to put up with before he snapped at them and to tell the truth his patience right now was wearing thin and he was about to lash out with a comment about the guy not having anything better to do when there was a flurry of red fabric that caught his eye and he could feel his breath hitch in the back of his throat. Every muscle in his body was tense as he then raised his eyes, by the time he raised his gaze though he had mastered the art of the carefree smirk that usually rested on his lips placidly.
He could not make too much of a show of this since they had continued this charade for long enough that he was not going to blow it in one night. He wondered how much longer it was going to last that they were going to be able to keep it a secret though before it came out and he did have to admit that he might not be as offended about it coming out as he once was. Was this meaning that he was turning soft or that he just liked to see the wreckage before something tumbled down even if he was on the receiving end of it? No he did not want to see the two of them be taken down like everyone else in the school woud love, but at the same time he was finding that he did not want to hide it all that much anymore the whole secret thing had been appealing at first but now, well he did not like other guys just looking at her the way that they did even though he knew that she was only sleeping with him. So what did that make them since they were only sleeping with one another? Was that something more than just friends with benefits? He noticed the gesture that she was giving him and he paused at the punch table for a moment before back tracking in the crowd so that it looked like he was heading the opposite direction before making his way over to the dark end of the room where she was waiting for him. Is it right for me to be jealous? After all every other guy in the room is working really hard at undressing you with their eyes. He asked in a low tone that was whispered to her as he took a step forward closing the distance between them until he was bordering on invading her personal space, so that neither of them would be seen or heard.

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best Just as she had expected, Fred was at her side in less than a minute, closing off whatever space there was between them. His words were low, throaty, and she felt heat rise to her cheeks at what he said. Mira never blushed, ever, but for some reason, Fred admitting jealousy made her feel a little bit embarrassed and weak in the knees. It was definitely unexpected for him to feel that way, but she felt more pleased than confused because all of her hard work in the past hour and a half had paid off. She looked good, she felt good, and now she was reaping the rewards of it. She didn't really care about the other guys, though; it was flattering, of course, that they'd watched her. And she knew they had -- she hadn't missed their looks, wide eyes, even the few whispers as she passed the throngs of princes. But all she'd wanted was a good reaction from Fred, and so here it was, in the form of jealousy. She wasn't his, of course, not technically, but she could see why he might be annoyed. Still, she wasn't his property, though she did get the satisfaction of knowing Fred knew just how much he could lose if he wasn't careful. He almost had, and she was glad things had slowly gone back to normal over the past couple of weeks, though admittedly the air between them had kind of changed. Over the past six months, they'd become increasingly comfortable around each other, but now it was almost a mutual agreement that they could be totally and completely themselves without suspicion of the other; they'd accepted each other for what they were, and after Mira had come to terms with the fact that Fred did make her happy, in a way, she found herself wanting to be in his presence more often than not. There was nothing wrong with that, though, or at least she didn't think so.
"It's understandable that you feel that way," she said in a teasing voice, her dark eyes meeting his. At this current moment in time, with Fred so close to her and looking at her in this way, Mira had no desire to be at this Gala anymore. Five years of this, now, she'd endured, and she'd enjoyed parading around in extravagant dresses long enough, but now all she wanted was to be alone with Fred. Having to hide and keep secrets was beginning to get irritating the more she wanted to be around him, but rules were rules and she couldn't risk being exposed. She wanted nothing more than to leave at this very moment and return to her dorm with him, but she knew her mother would be furious if she didn't have at least a few pictures from this night -- "For your memories and for the press!" -- and so she'd have to find a few of her good friends, allies, and her brothers as well to snap some photos and be done with it. She took another sip of her drink and smiled, her fingers curled tightly around the glass. Mira very obviously let her gaze sweep over Fred, taking in his appearance: he looked suave, sexy, and more mature than she could ever remember. But she did notice one thing: where was his cane? She always teased him about his "pimp cane", as she called it; Fred had a certain swagger to his walk and with the cane and healing knee this only added to it, making it look like he was some 1920s mob boss the majority of the time. She'd taken up the practice of quoting the Godfather whenever she was around him. Tonight, though, he'd decided not to bring the cane along, and for some reason this irritated Mira. How could he get better if he didn't follow the doctor's directions? Stubborn ass, she thought. "Why didn't you bring your cane?" She asked in an offhanded comment, trying to look scolding but unable to hide the laughter in her voice. He was so adamant about his public appearance, it was very amusing to her.

He would have been a fool not to follow her to the darkened side of the dance floor and he was certainly not a fool; he was cunning, manipulative and often arrogant but one thing that people would never mistake him for was unintelligent. Often times even when it did not seem like it he had a hidden agenda, in this case though Mira was his weakness and the only thing causing him to walk in that direction was his absolute need to be around her. He was finding that the times that they got to be in private together were not enough anymore, he wanted more. He did not want to have to give her up when they were in the spotlight, was that all that wrong? He knew that it was against the rules that they had set but he also assumed that something like the pregnancy scare would have fallen under the same category as well and yet it had happened and there was not too much to be done about it. Sometimes rules were meant to be broken. With how close he was standing to her he assumed that she was blushing with the words that were said to her but that was just judged off body language since it was much too dark to confirm his suspicions. The amount of confidence that shone to the rest of the crowd was still flaunted in his presence but he did have a sneaking feeling that she cared a little more about what he thought than she was willing to admit but he knew that if she were to call him out on the same thing that he would also made a run for it as well so there were things between them that were better off just not being brought up in the first place. They seemed to understand these things and what they were as well, for being enemies for so long they had certainly come to know the other very well. When she told him that it was understandable that he felt that way just the tone of her voice caused a shiver to run the whole length of his body and he did wonder if she could see what she managed to do to him, if so, her knowing about the way that she influenced him could be very dangerous for his better interest. He did not manage to find words in order to respond to that so instead he just stood there his shoulders were held rigid. He felt like he was under her scrutiny when her eyes ran over him and he smirked debating asking her if she liked what she saw but something held him back, tonight it was not about getting her in a defensive mind set, what exactly tonight was going to be about he was not sure at all anymore but he was feeling giddy and that should be enough to indicate that he should probably just walk away and go sleep off the rest of his pain medications and come back when he was feeling a little less affected but considering he was on so few pain meds now he knew that it was nothing to do with teh pills that he had gotten used to. It was all to do with the dark haired exotic girl standing in front of him and taking his breath away not only because of her looks but because of the things that flowed from her lips, she had a response for everything and one that usually caused him to marvel at the way her mind worked.
There was a moment when things changed between them and he knew that he was going to get asked one of the obvious questions and eyes were rolled theatrically. It's in my room. He commented and he refrained from tacking on 'mother' at the end of that statement since it would just ruin his chances of not getting her defensive tonight. I made it all the way here without it so I think I am fine. He commented watching the expression on her face, was she actually showing concern and that she cared? The only way you could make me go back and get it would be to come with me and escort me there, and if that were to happen I have a hard time imagining us making it back to the party. The tone he used was playful and mischief sparkled in hazel colored eyes. He looked around the gala with a lack of interest. Is it just me or do these events get even more dull every year? He asked and there was a plan that was forming at the back of his mind, it was not common for her to turn down a challenge and he hoped that it might be the same tonight. Dance with me, Mira. Let's give them something to talk about, the gala needs and event to beat what happened last year. Maybe he was not thinking clearly or maybe he was but right now that seemed like exactly what he wanted to happen.

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best Her eyebrows rose at his answer, but she said nothing. Of course he would be fine without his cane, she just wasn't used to seeing him without it. He was still an idiot, though; she was aware that he'd done his very best to avoid having to use the cane out of pure stubborn nature. Well, at least there was something to be admired about a person who went to great lengths to keep from doing something. Mira knew she was guilty of such tendencies, so she didn't have much room to scold him. She was sure that, had she had crutches or something of the sort, she would have abandoned them often just to spite her parents. Rebellious nature was ingrained in her and had been since she was a young girl; there was no trying to keep it contained this time around. She grinned at his next comment, though her heart had begun to beat erratically for some reason. Okay, so she really didn't want to be here anymore, not when he was saying things like that, no matter how playful. Her eyes followed his to observe the room, but a smirk had rested on her lips and she gave a roll of her eyes. "They've always been dull," she corrected. "They're only exciting when the punch is spiked," she insisted with a laugh. Well, it was true, honestly. She'd had her fair share of drunken events and for some reason had never been caught. Did the teachers just overlook the smell of vodka on her breath year after year? She supposed she never got drunk enough to be overly crazy, but she always stirred up some kind of trouble. Maybe Fred had always been so busy trying to charm his way into other princess' pants that he hadn't ever enjoyed himself? The thought made her scoff. Boys would be boys, no doubt.
What he asked next threw her off guard and she stiffened, her fingers clutching her drink so tightly they were beginning to turn a light tinge of purple. "You're kidding, right?" she croaked out, her gaze searching his face, looking for any signs of a joke. Nothing. Did he really think this would be a good idea? Sure, it would cause a lot of talk and make things interesting -- and Mira did like a challenge -- but it was too risky, too close to spilling the actual truth. Six months of keeping things hidden was not going to go out the window just for the possibility of the gossip blog blowing up with the latest scandal at the Winter Gala. Mira composed her shocked face with a sly grin and she took a step close to him. "I've got a better idea," she said slowly, keeping her eyes locked with his hazel gaze. "I think you left your cane in my room?" She questioned, her tone light. "My empty room." Her fingers swept over his tie and she straightened it, purposely letting her fingers brush the skin of his neck. After a pause, she took a step back and pushed a few stray hairs out of her eyes. "We wouldn't want to have you suffer without your cane for the rest of the night, would we?" She asked, still using the same light, suggestive tone. Inside, she was pleading for him to agree, to go with her to her room and let things take the same course they always did. She didn't want to go out on the dance floor with him, not publicly anyways; she had no qualms dancing with him alone, where no one was watching, but in front of everyone else, she just couldn't bear the thought of risking everything they had. It was a stupid idea anyways, one that made her want to smack him over the head because of it. What could possibly be going through his mind to come up with something as bad as that? Briefly, she wondered whether he was still under the influence of painkillers. He had never told her directly that he was on the medicine, but the first few weeks after his accident, he'd acted so odd that she had had to put two and two together. She'd never commented on it because he'd only get defensive, instead choosing to work her way around the acting out of character. But surely two months after an accident, one wouldn't be on a large dose of painkillers, right?

For the last few months he had heard enough of different people nagging at him to make sure that he was on his best behavior. He tended to get a phone call from his mother at least twice a day and while he used to just be able to press the ignore button on his phone and she would then call Noah she seemed adamant to talk to him when she wished so if he did not answer the first time regardless of where he was and what he was doing at the time she would then call him over and over again until he answered and if he ignored that then she would do the same thing to his servant until she was nagging at him and talking to him about the next doctors appointment that was scheduled. Noah was treating him almost like he was breakable along with the rest of the people around him and tonight he just could not be bothered with the use of the cane or the crutches he was on the mend but he knew that it was going to be a long time until he was back feeling the way that he used to but at least he wanted to look semi-normal. Swimming seemed to be helping him, at least that way he was not going to lose the fitness that football season seemed to bring with it, he was up to swimming for almost three hours a day now since he had broken it up into two different times, once in the morning and then once again after classes, I mean what else was he going to do with his day besides then take a walk and sit around his dorm room feeling sorry for himself. He was not the type knowing that it would drive him even more insane. He might not have brought the cane for all the wrong reasons tonight and she knew that, he hated how she was able to see right past him and able to see that there were other motives there and just that he was being stubborn and she could tell that he was getting in one of his hostile moods since she did not say anything else, actually it really did amaze him how well she seemed to know him. They had spent a lot of time hating one another but even though that they had managed to know what made the other person tick and he knew the things to avoid as well and the things that managed to revert her back to a fire-breathing dragon. For once he had no interest in seeing her like that anymore, he wanted to see her happy and he looked forward to seeing her smile as much as he had once enjoyed watching her squirm under the pressure of the taunts that he used to throw her direction. He really did wonder who was the most stubborn out of the two of them if it did end up coming down to it, he did not know and he was sure that it would be something quite painstaking if they ended up testing the theory. It was better for the two of them just to remain on neutral grounds and try their best to get along because the two were dangerous when they were not pleased with one another but they were even more dangerous when they were together as they were definitely two of the most manipulative cunning people in the school, really he did wonder if anything would have been different if he had sought her out as an ally in the first day of school rather than as an enemy, she just made such a good enemy for him though.
The comment that left his lips even though it was not spoken by her was enough to make his breath catch in the back of his throat as well since he was already imagining being far away from the party with her and the close proximity of them in their little dark spot of the room was certainly not helping too much. He was finding that it was hard to tear his eyes away from where they rested on her. There was a smirk that rested on her lips, so appealing that he nearly leaned forward to kiss her but that would be a point of no return for the two of them and she was just about to speak. He rolled his eyes when she stated that they were only interesting when the punch was spiked and he laughed lightly. Really I would not know, I do not usually stick around long enough to find out. He usually was only there long enough to say hi to the rest of the Kings and then would be on his way out, usually winding up at the Ice Box. Tonight would be different though since he knew that he would not wind up there. He had no interest in it when he knew that there was a high possibility that he could wind up somewhere with Mira and that made his heart feel like it was going to leap out of his chest. He did wonder if she knew that she was the only one that he had slept with since they had started their little friends with benefits thing, or if that had been something that had just been overlooked, he had no need to sleep with anyone else when they simply did not compare to her. The Bulgarian princess was the only one that wound up remaining on his mind for a prolonged period of time. When he made the comment about dancing with him out on the dance floor he noticed that her fingers wrapped around the drink that she was holding even tighter and she tensed. Not a good sign. Do I look like I am kidding Mira? He asked in a deep tone as he stepped closer. The seductive way that the words left her mouth was almost enough to make him forget everything and just go along with her but there was something that was stopping him right then and there and causing him to stand his ground. He was going to play stupid though as he turned his eyes towards her. Actually I would be just fine for the rest of the night without it. He uttered. The Mira I used to know would have taken that challenge without a second thought, what has changed? You used to love giving the gossip blog something to talk about, we both know that this is not going to stay secret forever. Body was pressed against hers allowing for no space between them, fingers running gently along her cheek before lips met hers. The passion was always there and always enough to make every rational thought escape his mind and he managed to pull himself away. What if I don't want to hide whatever this is anymore? He questioned.

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best Mira did not expect him to sidle up close to her, and in an effort to make sure no one could truly see them, she stepped closer to the side, in the crook of the wall. He was still in her personal space, and she felt her breath catch involuntarily. Why was he doing this so openly? It was seriously irritating her, but it was always making her weak in the knees, something she couldn't even admit to herself. Did he want to be caught? Did he want their personal business to be the talk of the school? Mira had to seriously look at him now, look into his hazel eyes to see if there were any signs of cloudiness or unfocused. He had to be a little bit drunk or high off painkillers, right? Fred wouldn't do this, not normally. He wouldn't go to these lengths to make things so obvious. He was now pulling the challenge card that tested her ego, and Mira narrowed her eyes, not buying it. That would work any other time, but she was going to hold her own on this. Talking secretly in a corner like this was already going pretty far...how far did he actually want to take this? It was certainly true that she enjoyed seeing whatever story ROYALSCANDAL could throw together about her, but this was not something she was willing to risk. She could ruin her entire reputation for this, and she was already talked about enough, what with her problems with Nada and the like. Having the word 'whore' plastered on her forehead was not a future she was willing to go through.
She had not expected, however, for him to move flush up against her and eagerly press his lips to hers. Her first reaction was to melt beneath his touch; immediately electricity trickled through her in a rush, but though her heart was racing, her mind was screaming and barely a second had passed before Mira shoved him away, hard to push him a few good inches away from her body. She did not shout out like she would normally, for fear of drawing eyes and causing a scene, but the look on her face certainly said enough. Her cheeks were red, her face flushed, her eyes flaming as the shock faded into anger. But through all of the heated emotions, she could not ignore the erratic beating of her heart and the butterflies fluttering wildly in her stomach. She was on fire, but it was not from anger. "What the hell are you thinking, Fred?" She whispered furiously, her dark eyes glancing about quickly to make sure they had not been seen. Everyone was, thankfully, minding their own business, too caught up in the magical night to spot the scandal in the back corner of the room.
Immediately she took on a defensive stance, her arms crossing over her chest and she leaned away from him. Being in his range of warmth was not going to help anything, not when her heart was screaming for him like this. Her mind was warring with her feelings and this was not good. "That's not a choice you can just decide on your own!" Mira snarled. "We both knew the boundaries and rules, we both knew what we were getting into and how this was going to be handled. You can't just decide out of the blue that you don't want to keep this a secret anymore! And what if I don't want everyone knowing?" She continued, still furious for many different reasons, most of which concerned her ever-flustered feelings. "This isn't a game, Fred. We've kept all of this a secret for a reason, and you agreed to it. Why are you acting like this all of a sudden?" She inquired.

He was starting to lose his patience, he was known for being fiery and the fact of the matter was there was something new that coursed through him when he took a step forward and she stepped away, a feeling of rejection and one that he did not like. He had never felt rejected before because it had always been him who made sure that whoever he spent 'time' with was dismissed long before he could even be bothered caring. He found himself subtley biting the inside of his lip to keep the comments that threatened to spill forth at bay because by this point he was feeling tense, his shoulders were rigid and ached with the fact that muscles were flexed and held at an alert stand, the fight of flight instincts were just as deeply engrained in him as they had been in their ancestors and the fact was that he was not the type to run so for him, it would always end in a fight. He really could not even remember the last time that he had backed down from a fight and that was enough to distract him for the time being. He was tempted to just reach out towards where she was standing in teh darkest corner of the room and just pull her into the light of where people could see them, surely she would slap him for it but he did have to admit that it would be a good show and something like that had not happened between them in a long time. They had fallen into a routine of getting along a little too well and really he felt like he was walking on egg shells because who was to know if it was for real and they could actually manage to get along or if it was going to blow up in their faces at some point. He was enjoying this new side of her that seemed to even like his company though and that was the reason that he had not spoken so far, he did not want to explode and risk ruining the evening even though to him it had already hit the point of no return for that. He could not explain why he did not want to hide what was between them anymore, it had nothing to do with him getting bored. He usually tended to get bored when he was around one person for too long and therefore moved on but with her it was the opposite, the more that he was around her the more he wanted to be around her even more often. She was addicting and surely she was able to see that right now even though he would never openly admit it. He had not even really admitted it to himself in the first place. He knew that he had feelings for her though and that might be something to do with the fact that he wanted this whole hiding thing to be in the past, who cared what all the rest of the school thought of them, all of them hated him anyways so why would he care what rumors were passing through the hallways? Right now his way of thinking was that if they came out with the secret themselves it would save the gossip blog feeling like they had the upperhand when it did eventually come out, it would still seem like the two of them were in control and that was something that was important to him, he liked to have control of his life, he did not like the variables and he liked to think that he was winning. If the gossip blog managed to find out about their midnight meetings he would be defeated and that simply could not happen.
He knew that it would seem out of character for him but there had been a lot of things that led up to this point and he did have to admit that he was not feeling like himself anymore. People changed all the time so really was it too hard for her to imagine it? It was not like all of a sudden he had made the transition into a teddy bear, he was the same ruthless and manipulative jerk he had always been but there was an exception of a small soft spot that he held for the girl and new motivations for his actions. She could think that he was drunk or high all she wanted but she would know better than that since she knew more than anyone else that he was not the type to lose control, it was not in his nature, even when he did go out drinking he remained sober enough to keep his mind in tact. The painkillers were still there but there was not enough of a dose to even have too much of an affect, in fact they did not even take the numbness and stiffness out of his knee anymore, but the doctor had told him that he needed to know what was going on with it so therefore they were getting him off the painkillers slowly so that he would be able to tell if it was feeling better on its own or not. She did not know any of that though and she could use whatever excuse she wanted to justify what he was saying. There was something different in her when he tried his best to challenge her but it was apparent that neither of their hearts were in it, the challenges and burning insults between the two of them had diminished with time. He was aware what it would look like if she was seen with him though but really there was not too much that he could do about that, she was different than the rest of the girls but that was not something that he was going to bring up, in fact the fact that he had not even had the urge in the last six months to sleep with anyone but her was something that he should be questioning his sanity about but right now he was a little too focused on the task at hand and convincing her that it would be a good idea for her to dance with him, she was just as stubborn as him though and he could tell that they were clashing and butting heads.
The next movement was something that was bold even for him as he then moved forward to press lips to hers and that was all the answer that he needed, it felt the same. The same buzz was between them threatening to consume them in a passion that he did not even know was possible. It had been a test and he knew what was coming long before it even happened as she roughly shoved him away but he had been braced for that, the weight shifted off his bad knee since he knew that it was coming. The burning look that she shot him did not have the affect that she wanted though, it was supposed to express the anger of the situation but it only enticed him, wanting to brave the gesture all over again, he was drawn to her and for that moment that he had managed to kiss her his heart felt like it had stopped all together in his chest. The words were spoken quieter than usual but the same venom was dripping off her tone and before he could even help it he found that there was a small smirk crossing his face settling onto his lips with a charming and mischevious expression that usually adorned his face when he was starting to get defensive, guarding himself from his true feelings. You can not tell me that you did not want hat as much as I did. He uttered point blank. She could not hide it. He did not even glance behind them, he was done caring about keeping it a secret. She then went on her little rant about how he was not able to decide this on his own and that she did not want people knowing about it but that they had agreed to it and eyes were rolled especially when her last statement was what if she did not want anyone to know. Well I guess that is kind of shitty for you then. There was a dark edge to the tone that he used. But as soon as it was spoken he regretted it and it had been a long time since he had transformed into the 'old-Fred' around her. I have feelings for you Mira, and I know you have feelings for me even though they were not apart of the deal. I care about you, the last six months my attention has not even once wandered from you, surely you know how much of a feat that is. The soft tone of his voice did not even sound like himself and surely was going to cause her to explode but at least it was out in the open now.

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best There the smirk was, creeping onto his face, and it made Mira want to throw something at his head and kiss him at the same time. He was being such a pain, as usual, but this was not the time for fun and games. This was serious, extremely so, and as much as her heart was fluttering rapidly, her chest was tightening and she could feel anger and heat flood her features. She was panicking, and she knew it; what would happen if the rest of the room had seen what he had just done? She'd never hear the end of it. "He finally got the girl" is what they would all say, clapping him on the back and laughing in her face. She'd be the whore. The whore. Slut. She could hear their taunts now, and for a moment she squeezed her eyes shut, just as he was chastising her for wanting the same thing. Mira tried to tell herself she didn't care what anyone else thought, but truthfully, her reputation meant something to her -- or what little she had left of it. She was going to be Queen someday, and though she had burned a lot of bridges and pissed people off in the past, they still somewhat respected her. If she was labeled a whore, would they take her seriously as a ruler of Bulgaria? Probably not. "I'm not saying I didn't want it, Fred," she hissed, her eyes narrowing. "Just not here, in front of everyone."
But she could tell by his expression that he had wanted it to be in front of everyone. He'd wanted everyone to see, but why? Her questions were answered a second later when his voice lowered, and as he spoke, the butterflies in her stomach intensified, as well as the screaming in her head, the screams that told her to not believe any of it, to get away from him and make him stop. Mira gulped slowly and shook her head, her surprise and conflicted emotions masked by the condescending look that was thrown his way. "Feelings? Please, you don't have feelings for me. You just like getting in my pants, that's how you feel," she corrected with a dramatic roll of her eyes, but inside her mind and her heart were raging a bloody, bloody war. "Quit being a pain in the ass, Fred. Joke's over. You got me, okay? You win this round," she said, trying to grin at him playfully. Of course this was all a joke! He was just trying to get under her skin, win one last little argument because she'd won so many for the past four years. He was trying to trip her up, mess her up, get on her nerves -- that had to be what he was doing. All this feelings nonsense was just a big game he was playing on her. Well, he won this time, because he'd certainly had her convinced.
Another roll of her eyes and she leaned against the wall, her smirk growing. Well, he'd played her well, that's for sure. But now she didn't feel like being her anymore; now, more than ever, she just wanted to go back up to her dorm room with him, where she could slap him upside the head and then kiss him like crazy. "Let's just go up to my dorm room, okay? You're right, this thing is boring. I could think of a million other fun things we could be doing," she insisted with glittering eyes, still trying to calm down her insides. He'd gotten her good with that joke; she was finding it hard to brush off what he'd said, even if he'd been joking. She could not ignore the fact that her heart had been racing and her insides had gone crazy just by what he had said. Well played, she thought. Well played.

The smirk was a defense mechanism and that was something that she surely would be able to see, she knew him better than that she knew when the real Fred was around that he was vulnerable and the only way to get him back to a state of confidence was to bring out the 'bad' Fred who did not hesitate in making sure that he quipped remarks at her as fast as she could open her mouth and it was like he had two completely different personalities but at the same time in both he was perfectly controlled, always was and always waiting for the opportune moment to make the switch back and forth but really she was one of the only people that did see the other side of him, the side that was not so secure in his reputation and was a little more hesitant than he was willing to admit. Sera might have seen flickers of it but she would never be able to call him out on it, it was not he same. He had feelings for Mira and there was nothing that he could do to hide it anymore, he was too jealous to go about hiding what they had when he got so irked when there was anyone around and all he wanted to do was tell them to keep their eyes away from her. He knew what she was thinking, she was thinking of what people would think of her but really he was prepared to defend her honor, no one needed to know what had happened in the last six months between them, it could have been seen as a spur of the moment thing and she was smart enough to know that he would not tolerate people talking ill of her at all but really he had a feeling that he was not even going to get the chance to prove this to her because there was no way that she was going to allow the two of them to come out of hiding and that was enough to make him angry. Was she just playing the game that much better than he was?! They promised no feelings and it had gotten the better of him but was she actually sticking to that rule and not developing feelings for him? Impossible. He could tell by the way that she kissed him and the time that the two of them spent together and the fact that it was no longer just sleeping together, they were even bordering on friends and many times when he had a problem and needed to talk to someone the thing was that he came to her. There was a new fire that was burning in dark eyes after he kissed her and she stated that she was not telling him that she did not want it but that she just did not want it right there in front of everyone else. Was she embarrassed of him? Well I do. He uttered stubbornly standing right there and not moving at all. It was now a battle of wills and it was anyones guess who was going to win, well if you really did have to ask what it looked like from the outside, the fact was that he was sure that neither of them were going to win in a situation like that and he could feel her slipping through his grips, slipping out of reach and she was starting to shut down when being around him and turning into the defensive and fiery girl that was better off butting heads with him than trying to make nice.
She glared at him and he could tell that she was trying her best to look tough when on the inside the two of them were fighting to know what was going on, he was able to see through it for the first time when around her. You are wrong Mira. He uttered when she told him that he did not have feelings and that he just wanted in her pants. It started out that way. Everythings changed in the last little while though, I came to you about my knee surgery when I could not tell anyone else at all. We hang out, without sex quite often. I am falling for you and thats the truth. It sounded so corny coming from his lips, corny enough that he wanted to smack himself upside the head. There was a serious expression that was crossing his face that told her that none of this was a joke and that he was being as serious as ever standing there right now. He reached out to touch her arm when she uttered that he got her and that the joke was over and hand was placed at her cheek guiding her to look over at him and into the dark eyes that were serious. It's not a joke. The low tone of the words was different from anything that he had ever said to her before and in the next moment where she was saying that the winter gala was boring and that they should just go up to her dorm room he took a step back. No. What the hell was he doing right now, he was not sure but he knew that he could not just pretend like it was alright because then it would never change. Admit you have feelings for me. If you don't then I might as well walk away now before I get hurt... He uttered stubbornly.

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best She was shaking her head vehemently at what he was saying, as if doing so would make everything he was saying turn to dust, that everything going on in her mind would quiet down. Why was he doing this, continuing this joke? He couldn't be serious. She was done -- joke was over, done with. She didn't want to play this game anymore. But could he actually be telling the truth, being completely honest with her? Had he truly fallen for her? Yeah, right. They'd made a deal, had an agreement -- had rules. Boundaries and being completely platonic were the most important rules, yet here he was, breaking all of them. This wasn't supposed to be this way! He was screwing this all up! Mira pulled away from his touch, feeling the heat burn through her skin. This was ridiculous, out of control. "Fred, you can't be serious," she hissed, glaring furiously at him. Fred, falling hard for her? That seemed nearly impossible. They hated each other, or at least used to. She'd spent the better half of four years hating all of his guts, hating every part of him and cursing him to hell. They'd been through so much together, but feelings seemed like too far of a stretch. It wouldn't work, even if she wanted it to or felt the same way; they fought too much, had too much of a negative past for any positive future.
Her mind was screaming obscenities at her as she shook her head at him again. "There are no feelings involved in this, Fred!" She whispered, wishing she could be shouting at him at the top of her lungs. However, they were in public, in a little hidden corner, and she didn't want to be heard. "This is all so ridiculous! You don't have feelings for me, and I don't have feelings for you. We're supposed to hate each other, Fred. We both agreed to the rules!" Mira snarled, suddenly fed up with all of this nonsense. Could he not just drop it already? He was being such an idiot, playing this stupid game. And if he did have real feelings for her, then he was even stupider than she thought; surely he knew how friends with benefits relationships worked, right? This was just one long extended fling, nothing more. This was not a relationship, was not meant to be anything more than sex. Just sex, they'd agreed. Just sex. That was pretty clear in itself, wasn't it? So why had he suddenly changed the rules and ruined everything? It wasn't fair, especially since it was throwing her under the bus and confusing her like crazy. This warring going on inside of her -- she didn't deserve that. She deserved a simple and uncomplicated relationship for once, and a just sex relationship seemed simple enough! Was that too much to ask for? Why did Fred always have to royally screw everything up? She was seething, and it was obvious in her body language, turned away from him and her arms crossed tightly over her chest. She was not in the mood for this; she had been in the mood for spending time alone with him, but now he was pissing her off with all of this "feelings" talk. Feelings were beyond Fred, beyond Mira, and she didn't appreciate him playing that card. If this was his way of getting back at her for all of those years of torture, then this was pretty low. Playing tender and all of that shit -- he was a much better actor than she gave him credit for. "You couldn't possibly be capable of have feelings for someone," she growled before she could stop herself, the anger something she had never been able to control.

He had been fighting with himself from the time that he had decided that he had feelings for her about whether he was going to tell her or not. Where the hell did this all come from in the first place when he had been so blind sided by it? It felt like he had just been hit by a dump truck running at mach speed and there was nothing that he could do about it, the more that he denied it the more jealous he got when he saw her around other guys. He was caught in a tough spot since he did not want to push her away but there was a side of him that knew that he was not going to be happy with just being in private anymore. She was worth breaking all his rules for, one of the only girls in this school that would even get him thinking that way. He was willing to go against the tides and try things out even if they failed miserably but really with the way that they had been getting along recently he was not so sure that they were going to fail. Just that mere thought right there made him want to walk to the nearest wall and bang his head against it until all the thoughts went away but he was just left standing there looking like an idiot in front of her, he even looked weak, at least by his standards. The fact that he was not lashing out at her and not fighting and screaming at the top of his lungs made him feel like a lesser person and that was just residual from the old Fred wanting to poke his head through and tell him what an idiot he was being right now. He was not backing down though because he was still the same stubborn jerk as always. For once this was not a game to him but he knew that she would not expect that since he was known for all the games that he usually played that were used for his entertainment and to keep people on their toes, all guards were down right now as he was trying his hardest to convince her that he was being genuine for once and she was having none of it and he could practically feel the anger radiating off her in waves. She pulled away from him and he was sure that if looked could kill he would be laying unmoving on the floor right then and there at her feet because the burning way that she was glaring at him was only causing his heart to race even more in his chest knowing that those seething looks had been what caused the two of them to become involved in the first place and he could still feel it. With anyone else he would have already turned and walked away with his pride in tact but with her it was a different story there was a sense of urgency to trying to convince her that he did have feelings. She then uttered that he could not be serious and he cast her a challenging look that settled in the pitts of hazel eyes. Why the hell not? His calm and collected tone that he had been using before was starting to get thrown away and there was a razor sharp edge. He could not help it though because she had no right to tell him what he was feeling and it was frustrating trying to convince her otherwise.
He could tell that she would have loved right now to just yell at him even possibly spill a drink on him but she kept herself quiet knowing that she did not want anyone to hear what the two of them were talking about in their little corner. Thank you for clearing that up then. He told her when she expressed that there were no feelings in this and eyes were rolled. When she told him she did not have feelings for him he could not even hide the pained expression that crossed his eyes and the fact that he took a deep breath to try to steady nerves and all of a sudden there was no fight left. His shoulders were not held as high as they had been previously and he looked down at the floor for a moment. She had just confirmed it and he felt sick. Rules are meant to be broken. But even the sharp tone was gone as he was ready to just walk away and go back to his dorm room. Mentally he was exhausted and feeling like crap. And the last comment was enough to make him do a double take of her. Then you obviously don't know me Mira. He told her before turning away, wanting so badly to just scurry back to her but he could not allow himself to as he stepped away from her feeling like he had just lost something that was very special, it was going to take a lot to shake that feeling and it did not help that there was nothing that he could take it out on since there was no more football with the condition of his knee. He could feel his hands shaking in a mixture of rage and ultimately feeling betrayed. He did not even pause to say good bye to the rest of the people at the party as he made a straight line to the door and his dorm room. tagged; mira

i can live without you but without you i'll be miserable at best It lasted only a second, but she had spotted the pain in his hazel eyes, and suddenly Mira wanted to backtrack. Why was he acting so hurt, like what she'd said had ripped through him? Her eyebrows furrowed and she was tempted to take a step forward, but Mira remained still, letting the silence between them envelop her. Finally, he spoke, and what he said seemed so unlike any tone Fred had ever used with her that Mira was dumbfounded. Then, he turned and walked away, and she remained rooted to the spot. Why was he walking away? Where was he going? And then, she realized what was going on: he had just ended things. He was walking away because he didn't want her anymore. He was done. Mira lurched forward, shock crossing her features and her dark eyes widening. "Fred," she called out. He was only a foot away, it would be easy to reach out and grab him, but she couldn't risk being seen. He didn't look back, even though she knew he could hear her. "Fred, what are you doing?" She called out again, a sudden strain in her voice. He was walking away. He was leaving. And he was most definitely not looking back, even after she'd called for him twice.
"Fred!" She shouted out, but the music covered her voice, and trying to get his attention was futile. Panic spread through her and she took an unsteady breath. She had lost him in the crowd of people, though, and so could no longer see where he was headed in order to try and follow him. And would it be worth it, following him? She could not forget the anger at his joke. But he wasn't joking -- he had just proved that. So...he had real feelings for her? Everything he said was the truth? Something inside of her felt like she was being torn into two, though she didn't know why, and Mira bit down hard on her cheek, trying not to scream, a lump in her throat forming. Fred had just basically made it clear that it was over -- their friends with benefits fling was over, no more. They were done. She didn't want to be here, not anymore. So, she stayed along the shadows of the wall until she'd made it to the double doors, and then she slipped into the hallway, rushed up the four flights of stairs, and made it to her suite. There was a strange hollow feeling inside of her as she closed the door behind her and plopped down on her bed. Should she try calling him? No, he would just ignore. And tomorrow -- tomorrow they would all be taking flights back to their home countries for the next month. Could she catch him in time? No, she knew she couldn't; she didn't know his flight time. Her eyes were welling up with tears and this made furious, so she meandered over to her chest and pulled open the lowest drawer, where her stash of alcohol was. Grabbing the vodka, Mira took a few long swigs and then put everything back in place. Five minutes later, a warm feeling had overcome her, and she buried her face into the pillow, letting the liquor lull her to sleep.
