It was another beautiful day in Spain, but as nice as the weather was today Princess Gabriella was feeling rather homesick. She'd only been at the castle for a few days, but with Prince Donato's Masquerade Ball quickly approaching chances were she wasn't going to be sleeping in her own bed any time soon. No, her mother was currently commanding her to stay at the castle with Dante to get firsthand experience in the culture and customs of the country she would soon be the Queen of. While Bri understood exactly how important that was she couldn't help but wish she could have spent a few days at home before being shipped off to the foreign castle.
Donato's mother, the Queen of Spain had been more than welcoming and since Gabriella had known the Spanish Royal Family practically since birth she was somewhat comfortable with them. Despite knowing them for most of her life though she still found the Spanish Queen to be irritatingly pushy and meddling. Somehow the woman found enough time between all of her duties to summon Gabriella from whatever obscure hiding place she'd been in to bring up miniscule wedding details. Who really cared whether there was embellishments on the champagne coasters or not? Had she decided whether she wanted candles, or artificial light yet? And what about having bubbles instead of rice? The wedding was still months away and Gabriella was already frustrated.
It's not like she wasn't trying. She smiled and tried to be as enthusiastic as possible whenever it was mentioned, but Gabriella was in no way a girly girl. She didn't have a scrapbook from when she was five with pictures of what she'd dreamed it would look like. On the contrary, her scrapbook was full of pictures of her horses and soccer teams, with several of her in torn and dirty designer dresses. Being pent up and unable to release her frustrations was difficult and at the moment Gabriella felt like a caged animal.
She was currently wandering the halls and trying to burn off her extra energy, with only limited success. It wasn't proper for a lady to run in the opinion of Donatos mother, so running was out of the question inside the castle and because of this the Princess was trying to distract herself by looking at every individual piece of artwork and sculpture she passed, trying to remember the name and origin of each one. It was at times like this that she wished she knew where her sister was. Vivien had come to Spain too, apparently to help with wedding plans and to get to know the various diplomats she would be in contact with throughout her reign as Queen. Still, Gabriella really just wanted to sit down and talk to Viv. She missed her twin more now that she was away from school and it was at times like these that Viviens advice would have been really useful.
The outfits Gabriella had been ordered by her mother to wear didn't help her moods at all either. On the first night her big suitcase had disappeared, only to be replaced with a replica full of clothes her mother had deemed "appropriate". The Queen of England's idea of appropriate turned out to be mostly dresses and heels with enough makeup to sink a small vessel. Currently she was wearing a slinky red dress and what must have been some of the most uncomfortable heels in the world. Above all Gabriella felt more like a piece of art herself, albeit a living, breathing one. It wasn't like she had anything planned for this afternoon and if she got back before dinner no one important would have time to miss her. Gabriella straightened her shoulders and purpose filled her step as she began heading down the hallway in the direction of the Main Hall. The day was beautiful and she could totally get a drive in before coming back. Just being outside the palace would give her that break she was craving.
