Kai needed a workout. Tennis season was nearly upon them and he needed to crack down on practice and training. Kai had a bit of free time today. He would have preferred to have spent it with his siblings but his sister had a test to study for and his brother would just rather not have anything to do with him at the moment despite his good intentions. Kai sighed at the thought of his younger brother. Perhaps his big plan wasn't working out. Maybe it was time for a change but would happen if he just gave up on the idea.
Clearing his thoughts he headed towards the side of the gym where the tennis courts could be found. With his racket in hand and sports bag he walked into the caged court. There wasn't anyone else there which he liked because it would give him some privacy, not that he would have minded if there had been but he wasn't complaining that there wasn't. There were a few of the people that kept watch over the equipment and such. Kai put down his bag on one of the benches. He made sure his shoes were nicely tight before he headed towards one of the machines that threw the balls. One of the coaches happened to walk in and offered to man the machine for him. Kai gave a thanks as he stretched out. Couldn't do anything physical without a good stretch after all.
When he was ready he finally ready he positioned himself on the opposite side of the court. He jumped a bit up on and down to get his feet going. He motioned the instructor to say he was ready. Okay, here we go Kai thought as the first ball came at him.

It had not been long since she had been back in the United States though she knew that a lot of people did not know that she left in the first place since she did not tend to be around the school too much in the first place. She was sure though that a few people would have noticed that her horse was shipped back to Ireland though and that was the final last straw to prove that at that time she had given up the job. No one had known why though and the secret was kept until she recieved a call from the German princess who was concerned for Bentley and the state that he seemed to be getting himself into while she was away. She was able to tell that there was something wrong that he was not even admitting to his best friends and room mates. The question had been the same; where's Rylie? Why'd she leave? The crushed feeling returned in waves and made her feel impossibly guilty, there was no doubt about it, she ran. They had been in France where she was set to meet the Queen for the first time as his girlfriend and not a fake princess that was hanging off his arm. Everything seemed to be going perfectly even managing to keep her cool when Bentley took her up to the Eiffel Tower where their feelings were first admitted and that was where she realized for the first time that being with him for anything long term was going to mean the possibility of being Queen of France, something that she never wished for and something that seemed so out of her league that she had not considered it. While it was something that tended to take her by surprise that was not the reason that she ran, there was a time after dinner that she was left to spend some time with the Queen as 'girl time' and it did not take long for the woman to shed the cheerful and happy disposition that she used around her husband and eldest son and tell Rylie that if she did not leave in that instant and never look back that she would see to it personally that Bentley would be enrolled in military school and betrothed to her former boss. Just the thought of how miserable that would make him made her jump into action and listen without even consulting Bentley. She left the hotel and made her way back to Ireland at once, and even though she could feel her heart breaking the whole time that it was happening she was convinced that it was the better decision because she could not allow herself to get in the way of his family and if his mother was so adament that it would not work between the two of them she did not want to be the one that was responsible for tearing them apart, but if that was supposed to make it any easier there was no way that it was accurate because not calling him and not even giving him an explaination and cutting off all forms of communication when he was such a large part of her life had been torture. She owed everything to the German princess though, even though Rylie made her promise not to tell Bentley the whole story in order to salvage the relationship she had and within the week he had been on the next flight out to Limerick.
Now it was impossible to wipe the grin off her face, she still felt terrible about the fact that she did not come to Bentley first before making her escape but really how could the whole situation have worked out better than it did. The fact that he proposed in her hometown and a place that meant so much to her was every dream of hers coming true. She knew that she had a lot to get used to, and she had a lot of hard work ahead of her, she needed to learn what it was going to be like to be by his side when he was King and get much more up to speed on the things that were happening in France but already Pirzi and Marie were tag teaming in 'princess' lessons and her French had become almost second nature to her. When she put her mind to something it was not often that it was able to get the better of her and the fact that she was determined to make Bentley proud was a great factor in it. She felt terrible since her horse had just returned off another international trip but Cayo did not seem to mind that he was returned back to Vineheart and the improved persona of his owner and the fact that Zar and Cayo were quite attached now. She could tell that Bentley was trying to make her work load easier and she needed to remind him later on the fact that she loved the work and loved to be able to make his life easier and that he needed to stop doing that but it was not too often that he listened. There were not too many people that she was all that close with but the prince of Japan was one of them and she wanted him to be one of the first ones that she told about the fact that she was engaged now since it would not mean as much if he heard it from something like the gossip blog plus she really wanted to catch up since she knew that she had been MIA in the last little while. The gym looked to be almost abandoned with the exception of him and a coach that was helping him and she was in no rush to get anywhere so she took a seat at the edge watching and waiting for him to finish.

He grunted as the next ball came flying out of the machine and hit it. In. He smiled. This was how it was for about a good twenty or thirty minutes. Thankfully, despite not really doing anything during the winter break he wasn't terribly out of shape. He would probably have to be running a bit more to keep up his stamina. It had been his own fault for not exercising enough during the break but it was too late to complain about it now. Now he could only staying in shape and getting ready for his tennis matches. It wasn't like he could just walk into the court and expect to win. Nothing was ever that easier really.
A part of him was happy to back at Vineheart. Get back to his athletics and friends. It was truly a no win situation. When he was at Vinheart he missed his home in Japan all the time and when he was in Japan he did miss being at Vineheart with his friends and such. He could only imagine how it would be when he graduated the academy, when that happens he won't be seeing his younger siblings. Then again he wasn't exactly doing a very good job of that as it was right now. he scolded himself for it but there was a reason for it even if it wasn't exactly working out how he would like. After hitting another ball his coach called for a break which Kai was grateful for. If the coach hadn't done it Kai wouldn't have. He would have kept going until he could move anymore so since the coach had taken the initiative he was happy. He put his racket down and waled over to the bench near the court. He put his racket down near his bag and grabbed his towel to wipe his neck and face. That was when he noticed someone out of the corner of his eyes. Someone had been sitting there watching his practice apparently and he smiled when he realized who it was. He threw his towel onto his bag and ran over to the observer with a grin. "It's been a while Rylie. I hope you had a good holiday break?" he asked cheerfully.

She had been doing a lot of riding and a lot of jogging in the last little while to keep herself quite active and to keep her mind off the problems that she had been having that caused her to return to Ireland for the short sort of vacation from her job. After all she needed to take her mind off the fact that her and Bentley had broken up and that it was all her fault and to do with the fact that she was too scared to tell him what happened with his mother. She felt terrible but now that it was all fixed and she made a promise to herself that whatever happened that she would come to him first she felt like it as a lot better and she did have plans in order to make it up to him since the French prince had been nothing but perfect to her, at least in her mind even if Heidi was still so hesitant about the two being together though she was sure that there would not be a single guy that her close friend would not be hesitant about. The fact that the two were engaged now though added a little bit of finality to it, he was not going to just get married off to some random girl now and she would be the one that was learning to be Queen, something that she was both excited for and terribly nervous. She knew that it was something that was going to change her life forever and for the the better but she could not help but think that she might not be cut out for the job and then what? She knew that Kai did not see her as she was sitting there and that was better off that way since she did not want to disturb him from what he was doing until he was finished since she had the afternoon free and nothing to do than spend a little time with friends. Legs were crossed delicately at the ankle as she sat at one of the benches and he noticed her jogging in her direction and she looked up with a bright smile as emerald colored eyes then rested on him when he came to a stop in front of her, he was right that it really had been awhile since the last time that they talked and she felt horrible about that. I am sorry I am terrible at keeping in touch and I had a lot going on. She uttered softly, there was no use in lying to him since she trusted him and would know that he would not tell anything to anyone about what was going on in her life. I had a wonderful break and to be honest I just got back to Vineheart from a little mini trip to Ireland last night. She and Bentley had made the flight back after the breakfast celebration with her mother who was more than happy for her daughter to be engaged to someone that she felt so strongly about. What about you? I hope you did not work too hard over the break. She knew that he had a tendency to take on too much at once and get a little over his head when he was working on something but there was nothing wrong with being an overachiever since those tended to be the people that got ahead in life.
She patted the seat on the bench beside her to give him a spot to sit glancing up at him with a soft smile. I wanted to be the one to tell you this because it would not be the same if I just let you find out through the gossip blog. She uttered softly before turning to him. Bentley asked me to marry him when we were in Ireland. She leaned back against the wall behind them watching to see how he was going to respond to her news, he was one of the only people in the whole school that she felt completely comfortable around with the exception of Bentley. She knew that she need to make more time to be a better friend though because she allowed her own hectic schedule to get the better of her in the last little while and she had not been able to keep up with any of the people that she considered to be friends with the exception of Pirzi and Marie because they were in charge of the lessons for her to become a princess. She still could not change the fact that she felt like she was going to be so out of place though.

It was funny how things worked out sometimes. By now winter does seem ages ago. All it had been was a simple horse ride out in the snow and a lovely friendship had been born between Kai and Rylie. Rylie was a few years older than the Japanese prince but they had a nice friendship. It was probably their love of horses that truly tied them together but for whatever reason they clicked. So when he saw Rylie sitting on the benches his mood brightened up. She was a friend and he enjoyed chatting with his friends when he had a chance. He shook his head in reassurance. "It's no problem. If anyone can understand that it's me. We all get busy after all." he said with a genuine smile. He knew well enough how life than keep you on your toes without a moment's rest. He was a little surprised by Rylie's truth about her recent return from Ireland but didn't let it show. "No doubt you enjoyed going home." he said speaking from experience.
"My break was enjoyable. Got to see my sister again. Things haven't changed much between my brother and I and I worked about the same time as usual. Which is probably more than I should." he said jokingly. Although he tried not to work very much during his break at times it was unavoidable. Of course Mei did her best to keep his head out of his books but there was only so much she could do really. When she motioned for him to sit down he did just that. His curiosity was spiked at her words. What could she have to tell him that she wouldn't want him hearing it from the gossip blog first. He normally didn't pay attention to the gossip blog but if it was something about his friend then perhaps he might. His eyes lit up in excitement at her next words. "Rylie that's absolutely wonderful. Congratulations. To you and Bentley. That is truly wonderful news. Thank you for sharing it with me." Kai was truly happy for his friend. He only ever wished the best for a person and happiness for his friends. When the people he cared about were happy then so was he. "Bentley knows how to give a gift. I'm sure you must be excited."

Talk about time seeming to fly she really knew what that felt like because right now she did not even know when it was going to stop, she hoped that her life would not just keep passing her by without the ability to enjoy it because right now she was too busy scrambling in order to keep up. All in one year she went from being Carli's servant to being Bentley's to being involved with a prince and then now she was engaged to the same prince and learning what it was going to mean to be Queen. She hoped that it was not going to be too soon that they would have to take on that responsiblity because she did not feel like she was ready but she had long since come a long way from not admitting that it was going to happen. She knew that she needed to face it and she was just hoping that the people of France were going to take well to her. She did not know how they were going to respond to their Queen being of common birth when his mother had been so adamant that Bentley needed to marry someone of royal lineage. She needed to be by his side though and she was trying her best to adjust. By now her French was flawless and she had even take a test in town after the classes to certify her as bilingual and while there was still a long way to go she was still working her hardest on it all. The engagement was something that was quite new though and she was surprised that the gossip blog had not jumped all over it when it happened since she was now wearing the official engagement ring that had been given to her after they had arrived back from Ireland and had been picked out by the German and French princesses. They really did seem to know her quite well because she loved it, and could not help but grin everytime looking down at her hand even if it was a foreign object there, it was just another reminder that she was not going to have to give up the French prince when the time came for him to take the throne. She had always told him that she would be his servant as long as he allowed it but she would have a hard time being around him if he were to be married to someone else. So when she spotted Kai practicing tennis she could not help but stop and take a seat on one of the benches, Bentley was away for the weekend dealing with his mother and talking to her about the engagement and the fact that she had been the one to send Rylie away to Ireland with a threat that she was not going to see Bentley again and that he was going to be placed in military school if she did not leave. He did not want her to be there when it all happened so she really did have the weekend alone which was not something that she was all that used to. She had spent the morning and part of the afternoon doing all the errands that she could think of even though it was something that he was trying to get her to stop and cleaning his room but really it was a nice way to relax and take her mind off the fact that she was missing him so much.
When he took a seat next to her she grinned when he stated that he could understand and that life tended to get busy. Well I am glad that you understand but I am still sorry for being a crappy friend. She told him she really did feel like there was so much that she had to tell him. He commented that she probably enjoyed going home but it was really not one of those situations for herself and with anyone else she might have commented that it was wonderful and lied about it but with Kai she felt like she trusted him. To be honest it was not really something that was planned... She uttered and trailed off. Bentley's mother has never approved of me and the last time we were in France she told me that if I did not leave that she was going to send him to military school so I felt a little trapped and that was how I winded up back in Ireland. I am very lucky that he came to try to sort things out with me though, he had no clue of what she had said. She uttered gently. Really it was all an entire roller coaster ride of emotions. She chuckled gently when he commented that he got to see his sister again and that he tried not to work too hard over his break so it was good and she smiled gently. Well that sounds good. She told him. She blushed deeply when she stated her next bit of news about the fact that she was now engaged to him and his eyes lit up with the same excitement that she felt. The thought of marrying the man that she was not only very attracted to but was also her best friend was something that she was looking forward to. Thanks Kai that means a lot to me. She uttered and then shifting to wrap her arms around him in a light hug. He certainly does, I am very excited I am just a little nervous for what it means. She told him.

Kai chuckled a bit. "Believe me you are from a crappy friend. We all get busy. Who should know that better than me?" he said with a slight smirk. Kai was always busying himself with an endless amount of things from school work to any royal responsibilities so fully understood how that could take over one's life without them wanting to. When that happened it could feel like ages have passed by in an instant without us and force us to catching up with the time.
It was Rylie's next small explanation that intrigued him. He could understand Rylie's mother. So many royals were like that. They believed that a royal should stick to their own kind and only socialize with others of their same status. It was so medieval. Not being able to be with the one that you love only because of your status. It was terrible in his opinion. Of course that hasn't stopped many from doing as they pleased. Love was a wonderful thing and should be felt by anyone with anyone regardless of one's status. So he was pleased that things had worked out for Rylie. The girls was a wonderful that deserved to be happy with the one she loved. In this case being the prince of France. "Well if you ask me the Queen is crazy. You my dear are going to make a wonderful queen and the people of France are going to be absolutely lucky to have someone like you watching over them." he said reassuringly. He truly believed that. How could have the trust of your people if you didn't truly care about them. It was what his father had always taught them and we thought that it was something that should be instilled into everyone. Rylie was one of the kindest people he knew and he didn't think anyone was more suited to take care of a country than her. He returned her hug and gave her a reassuring smile.
"You don't have anything to worry about. After all you're not alone in this. You have Bentley and your friends who want to see you succeed and be happy." he could understand her nerves. After all she had not been born and bred into the lifestyle of a royal like he and Bentley and the others. She would be taking on a huge responsibility and that as it was scary for someone who was already aware of it, he could only imagine it being worse for someone who had never dreamed of it.

If someone would have told her six months or a year ago that she was going to be marrying a crown prince and taking the seat as Queen with him when the time came that he was crowned King she would have asked what fairytale the person had been reading too much of. Even when she had been dating Bentley she had always thought that it was going to be one of those tragic things that ended up getting stopped the moment that she got to the point that she did not feel like she could manage being around him without being with him. She always thought that he was going to have to dump her and that it was going to get carried out and that he was going to have to marry some proper princess somewhere and be done with her. She would have to find something else to do with her life because even though she told him that she would serve him for as long as he wanted her around she could not picture being around to cater to someone that was going to be his wife as well. She might not show it outwardly since she was much too trusting of the French prince but she was the jealous type and did not like the thought of her boyfriend being with anyone else. Though right now it was just too surreal and she did not know what to expect. She was not going to have to part ways with him when the time came for responsibilites, instead she was going to be the one that was there by his side no matter what backing whatever decision he was going to make regarding the country. She was no longer his servant and he was the first one to voice that to her and to stop her from doing anything that detailed as duties though that was an argument that the two of them tended to be in almost all the time, of how she was not supposed to be cleaning up for him or doing anything of the sort anymore she really did not think of it as acting like his servant anymore she tried to justify it as acting like his future wife to be since her only intentions were to make sure that his life was as calm as possible and make sure that he was always organized because Ellie did the same thing for Ric and Ric seemed to get used to it even if he had been opposed to the idea at first as well. He realized that it made Ellie happy and it was the same exact situation for Rylie, the only time that she was happy was when she knew that she had done everything and anything in her power to make sure that his life was as easy as possible. Today though he was not around, he was back in France talking to his parents about the fact that he had asked her to marry him and she was lucky enough to not have to go with him. It was not that she did not want to be there, she wanted to be there for him knowing that it was a hard situation to be in but he did not want her to be there, he wanted to deal with it and have it over and done with to then be able to return and finish the rest of his year, he did not want her to be involved when his mother ended up chasing her away the first time and while she knew that his mother was not the only one to blame on that she knew that there were certain things that needed to be worked out between the family without her being involved.
She glanced up at him when he commented that she was not a crappy friend and that he knew more than anything what it was like to get crazy busy and that seemed to be true because there were not too many times that she would see him without his head buried in a book and studying for something or off doing some crazy errands. He seemed to be a lot like her in that manner. I guess that is true, how do you even manage to get enough time to breathe? She joked with a smile that caused green eyes to sparkle mischeviously. There were not too many people that she was overly comfortable around and even fewer that were Royals and yet Kai managed to fall into the latter category. After she explained to him what happened with Bentley's mom she blushed when he mentioned that the people of France were lucky and that the Queen was crazy, she really did not agree and she really did think that the Queen was trying to do her best to make sure that her son was succesful and in some ways she would understand it but the unfair part was that she did not even give Rylie a chance to prove herself, she did not get the chance to show that she was worthy of Bentley's affections and she could not be a fan of a single person that was going to try to steal him away from her when she loved him so much. Thanks, I really appreciate that, it's nice to have someone confident in me. She expressed softly. She did not know what to expect of being thrust into this lifestyle but she really was trying her best to adjust to it all. She nodded when he uttered that she did not have to deal with it alone and that there were a lot of people that were on her side and that was true, she knew that she could always count on Bentley and she also knew that Pirzi would be there for her whenever she needed it as well as Ric and Ellie and Kai as well. I know, I am really lucky to have some really great friends. She uttered with a small smile in his direction. Thanks for being there for me, you are one of the only ones I have actually told about what happened with the Queen.
