Mira pressed 'Send' on her iPhone, a deep sigh resonating from her. What was done was done -- there was no trying to pretend she could get him back. It had only been two weeks since they had returned to Vineheart, but already Mira was giving up. The way she'd seen him today, smiling and laughing with Elena the way he used to around her, was enough to convince her it was over. He was happy, she could see it. She didn't know how long he and Elena had been dating, but no matter, because he looked pretty content with her. So why try and ruin that for him? She'd only feel like a selfish bitch, because he had given her a chance to admit her feelings, to be with him, and she had pushed him away. So, she had sent a text to Leon, saying it was no use, that he didn't have to play along anymore. He would surely ask questions, perhaps even insist that they can get him back, but Mira would refuse. It was useless, stupid; she was not going to be that girl, the one that ruined another girl's life to keep herself happy. Looking at Elena, the girl seemed pretty happy to be with Fred anyways, so why snatch that happiness from her just because she regretted her own chance at happiness? Mira had come a long way from that selfish girl, the one who jumped at the chance to drag people down and had enemies crawling around her. She was growing up, anyone could see that. That didn't mean the old Mira wasn't there, because she was lurking around the corner, waiting to come out; but this older, more mature Mira was calling the shots now, and she wanted to make things right.
It hurt, though, loving someone you couldn't win back. Why did she have to be in love with him? Why? Everything had been so much better when she was blissfully unaware of her feelings for him. Well, that had ended badly regardless, but still. This heartache was even worse, and she couldn't stand it. He was happy, though, and that was what counted, right? If he was happy, she would be happy, even if she pined for him. She could move on, find someone else -- eventually. For now, though, she'd be content with watching him grow and evolve with someone else. Perhaps in the future they could friends? They'd had some sort of friendship when they had been together; maybe it wouldn't be so hard to become friends, a year from now. Mira sighed, burying her hands in her curls and sweeping them back from her face, her dark eyes briefly closing. She needed some solace, but not in solitude; Mira didn't deal with these kind of emotions nicely. She needed someone else to distract her, because wallowing in her regret was not going to help her any. So, she searched through her contacts and texted the one person she knew she could handle being around at the current moment: Katerina. Her servant, or friend since she didn't like the word servant, who she had grown up with, whom had known her all of this time. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to be busy, would you? If not, mind bringing some ice cream and sharing it with your darling friend?" Mira pressed the send button again, and then fell back against her pillow, her eyes staring up at the ceiling.

Some boys take a beautiful girl And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun Oh girls they want to have fun - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The return from Bulgaria had been quite enough, and now they were all basically readjusting to being in school. Something that irritated Kat to no end, because she just wanted the year to be over so that they could be out of Vineheart. She didn’t have anything against the academy, she actually was thankful because it had been a great educational experience. But Kat was ready for college, and even though she was sure she would end up going where Mira went, at least it would be a new experience for her. So that was an exciting prospect, so she was annoyed over school and of course math just being the horrible subject that it was. She honestly didn’t know why she needed to even learn calculus it wasn’t like she was going to be using it in real life, when did you ever need to find the derivative of anything in real life? She often found herself rolling her eyes at the whole thing, but of course if she wanted her grades to stay up, she needed to do well in calculus which was proving to be difficult. But she had finally given up on the homework for the night and she was heading towards her dorm when her phone went off alerting her to a new text message. It was from Mira.
The princess had been worrying Kat for quite some time now, there was something different about her and of course it worried her. Even though Mira was technically her boss first, and then her friend, she tended to take the latter more into consideration. But either way, Katerina was worried about her and about what was going on in her life right now. She could only guess it was a boy problems, they tended to start popping up at some point or another. Kat hadn’t had any real problems concerning boys in a long time, but that was probably due to the fact that she hadn’t been in a relationship since that first one. It was mostly flings for her now, but she was okay with that because falling in love tended to lead to problems. She looked down at the screen and saw that she wanted ice cream, that was usually code for she needed to let something out, so Kat made a detour at the kitchen to grab some ice cream for the both of them. There was vodka in her room as well, but it wasn’t like she would go announcing to the whole school she had alcohol stashed in her room. There were rules about alcohol consumption on campus, even though everyone did it, so she was creative about where she hid her “fun drinks”. She unlocked the door to her room from the hallway so that she could grab the vodka and some glasses, along with the ice cream. She opened the door between the two rooms and she saw that Mira was on her bed. She walked over to the princess, and she settled the ice cream on her bedside table.
“Reporting with ice cream, as requested” she said with a small laugh, before picking up the vodka bottle, “And I brought a little something extra, in case you needed it”

Mira looked up when the door opened and instantly smiled when she saw Katerina, the exciting blonde who worked for the royal family. Honesty, Mira considered her more of a childhood friend than a servant, but jobs were jobs and she couldn't completely ignore it. She really didn't make Katerina do anything; after multiple complaints from roommates over the years, she had begun to finally learn to put her clothes away and make her own bed. The Vineheart maids usually came in and cleaned the rooms once a week as well, so what did that leave for the servants to do? Nothing but be a confidante for the royals, who needed someone to tell their secrets to with no fear of anything getting out. Katerina was just that girl -- and though she and Kat had never been all that close, she still trusted her far more than anyone else in her life, besides Leon. Her dark eyes brightened when she saw the vodka and a sheepish look crossed her face. "You know me too well, Kat," she stated, eagerly sitting up and grabbing one of the bowls Katerina had carried to her room. She had no preference for any flavor of ice cream, so whatever the blonde had brought with her would do just fine. Ice cream, especially with vodka, would definitely dull the ache inside of her, she was certain of it. She needed a good brain freeze and that numbness she got from liquor.
But how to go about telling Katerina all of this? She needed someone to talk to, and she couldn't talk to Leon. Pretending to date Leon had been a useless idea, she knew now, and a complete waste of time. She appreciated her best friend helping her out, but it was no use. Fred was over her, and that was that. But Katerina did not know about Fred; in fact, Mira was sure the girl was under the impression Mira had fallen for her best friend, the Austrian prince. The thought made her want to roll her eyes. She'd certainly had a crush on Leon when they'd first become friends, but he was too much of a brother to think of him that way now. No, she needed to tell Kat the truth; if anyone deserved to know, it was her. How else could she protect and be there for Mira? She was fairly certain that Katerina had known about Mira's nightly Tuesday adventures -- in which she'd snuck off to meet Fred -- but what she'd done during those hours, Mira figured the girl didn't know. Well, it was time to tell her. With a small smile, she patted the space next to her on the bed, inviting her to come sit with her. "You up for listening to a long, complicated story I should have told you a long time ago?" She asked, holding out her hand to indicate that she wanted the bottle of vodka. A swig of the liquor was what she needed before she was about to delve into this story that would only bring the pain fresh and anew.

Some boys take a beautiful girl And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun Oh girls they want to have fun - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She would be lying if she didn’t admit to being a tad bit concerned about Mira. After all she had been acting weird most of the year, even though Kat hadn’t spent as much time in her room as usual, even she had spotted that. But after all it wasn’t her business to question the princess as to where she tended to disappear to. Just as she was sure Mira would never question her on her whereabouts, especially if she weren’t going to make it back to her room for the night. Even though she had been pretty good at that for the past year, she had been in her room on a daily basis, well nightly basis anyway. Still the fact that Mira had asked for ice cream meant something, and Kat would be there to listen. After all if she couldn’t trust Kat with her secrets, she couldn’t honestly trust anyone else. After all Kat was nothing if not loyal to the Bulgarian princess, even if they had never been the super best friends that they could have been. Either way she knew she had made the right choice by grabbing the vodka, it would help in whatever was going on, and well Kat had been a good girl in the past few weeks, she really hadn’t consumed any alcohol, one night wouldn’t hurt.
“Of course, it would be a shame if I didn’t after all of these years” she said with a smile.
She took a seat next to the princess as she handed her the ice cream as well. Given that she was the one that had asked for it, well she got first dibs. She had grabbed the first pint of ice cream she had found which ended up being rocky road. It would help, since the marshmallows would make anyone feel better. Still she was very curious as to what was wrong with Mira, and she wondered if the problem was in the romance department. Kat’s own romantic problems weren’t all that horrible, unless you counted the major crush she had on one of the professors. But that was to be expected, after all she had a lot of face time with him. Even if the subject he was helping her with infuriated her to no end, she had become somewhat appreciative of their sessions just because she found him attractive. Not that she would ever go there, okay she was lying she would go there if she could, but she doubted that Professor Falkenberg would even look at her that way. She brushed the thoughts away as she waited for Mira to pass back the ice cream, and the vodka. She had a feeling they would definitely be needing both for whatever was wrong with Mira. Plus she needed to focus on the other girl’s problems, not her own, that’s why she was here in the first place. She tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear as she appraised Mira. There had been something off about her since their return from Bulgarian for the new school term, not that she would ever question her, but she could see it.
“That has me worried” she said, “What’s wrong?”

Mira unscrewed the top of the bottle and immediately took a long swig of the liquor, the vodka burning her throat as it went down. It was not any specific flavored vodka, just the normal kind -- that was how Mira liked it, though. She wanted to taste the alcohol, not some cover up to chase the taste. She made a slight face -- it had been a month or two since her last drink -- and screwed the top back on. Katerina had set the ice cream in her lap and Mira took one of the spoons and dug into it, not even caring what flavor it was. Ice cream was ice cream, and it tasted magically delicious with the burn of the vodka. "You're not going to believe any of it," she commented bitterly, leaning back into the pillow so that her body was more relaxed. She felt too rigid and needed to loosen up, and so before she continued, she had another swig, enjoying the rush of the liquid. It would take quite a few more swigs for her to get tipsy, but she knew that if she took them quick and with little time between, she'd be drunk in no time. But she needed to tell the story first, then get drunk; she didn't want to mess up the story or say too much, but she was going to need to feel loose once Katerina started asking more questions about feelings and whatnot.
She sighed and pushed her hair out of her eyes before turning to look at her friend. "At the Riverbed party last year, after I spilled that drink on Fred...well, I ran into him again and he kissed me. One thing led to another, and..." Mira trailed off briefly, knowing Katerina would understand. Her servant was not innocent in that department either, which was nice because at least she could have someone to openly talk about it with if she wished. It wasn't horrible talking to Leon about it, but she was sure it made him uncomfortable, and there was no way in hell she was going to talk about sex with Nada, unless it was to tease her about it. It was sad, really, how many friends she had that she couldn't really talk to about her personal life. "We kind of had a 'friends with benefits' relationship since then, except were weren't really friends, not at first anyways. Then, I don't know...things changed and I guess it became easier to be around him and it wasn't all just about sex anymore. He's always a pain in the ass but he was less of an asshole, you know?" Mira continued with a roll of her eyes. She took another bite of ice cream.
"Then feelings became involved and that scared me shitless. You know I don't do romance and all of that," she said with a small grin towards Katerina. She was beginning to swear more, something she always did when liquor was in her veins. "So I pushed him away. At the Gala, he told me he wanted to be more than friends, and I just couldn't believe that we could go from hating each other to wanting to be together...and I was afraid of what people would think of me if I finally got together with Fred after years of fighting with him. I mean, people took bets on that!" Mira threw her hands up in the air and then swiftly grabbed the bottle, needing the burn of the vodka again to calm her down. She was feeling a bit looser, but not much. "He broke things off after I rejected him. It wasn't until after I saw him with Elena that I realize I loved him," she said softly, her voice small and childlike. She bit her lip to fight back the lump that was forming in her throat. She decided to pause there in her story and give Kat time to process all of it before she continued on with the involvement of Leo.

Some boys take a beautiful girl And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun Oh girls they want to have fun - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Kat watched as Mira took a swig of the vodka as she took a bite of the ice cream. The sweetness felt good on her tongue, and she was tempted to just throw some vodka in the ice cream as well. But she knew that it might not be the best idea in the world, still she waited for Mira to start talking. There was something telling her at the back of her mind that they would be here a while and that it wasn’t something simple that was bothering the other girl. After all having known Mira her whole life she knew when something was bothering the other girl. Usually she stayed out of Mira’s business, after all she knew that the other girl wouldn’t appreciate her butting In, but there were times when she was unable to do so. She automatically worried about her, and it wasn’t just because she was her servant, it ran beyond that. Most people never got to see the side of Mira that was tolerable, and they always assumed that Kat had it rough. But in reality Kat never regretted her job, sure it gave her a rather tough personality but that was good. It allowed her to have more fun than the other prim and quiet princesses that were around, along with the servants who were similar. Life was definitely more fun when you didn’t give a care in the world.
She listened as Mira explained what went on at the riverbed party, she could recall that night somewhat well. Though it was rather surprising that Mira had anything to do with the Swiss prince, as far as she could remember they always had that somewhat antagonistic relationship. Kat could very well remember how much she had laughed when she had heard that Mira had actually thrown a book at the pompous jerk, and well she couldn’t blame her. She had done something similar earlier in the year, her book nearly avoiding a professor no less. It had been Derek, and he hadn’t minded, but he still very much reminded her of that day every time they met. But all she could do was brush it off, after all it wasn’t her fault that calculus was so irritating. But she focused back on Mira who was elaborating on what she had earlier begun. After all after saying that one thing led to another, Kat could basically infer what she was meaning, after all she was no saint. A friends with benefits relationship? Would they really classify it as that since both Mira and Fred were always arguing but still she said nothing as she took another bite of ice cream and then reached for the vodka bottle herself. She wasn’t going to interrupt the princess, she would listen until she thought it was appropriate to speak, especially because she had a feeling this was a rather long story and it would need to be explained in detail and then thought about a little. Still she listened, and she was surprised they had lasted all the way up to the gala, which had only been the month before, they definitely had lasted longer than one would have expected. But sometimes flings turned into something else, as apparently this had, and it was surprising to her.
“So what you are saying that the boy you threw a book at last year, kissed you” she said, “And then you guys had a fling that turned into something more. With Fred. Well you are right that is hard to believe. But Mira, how can you be sure that you love him, and not just want him because you can’t have him anymore? Not that I’m doubting you, but still you can never trust your feelings if jealousy is involved”

Katerina had her stumped at that question, and Mira was silent for a very long moment, her dark eyes transfixed on her morphed reflection in the spoon. How did she know? How did she know? It wasn't just jealousy, at least not entirely. Mira had certainly been jealous when she'd seen Fred and Elena together, but that was right after she'd realized her feelings for him. Mira recalled that strange sensation she'd felt seconds before Elena had danced over into Fred's arms; when Fred had had a carefree smile on his face, the way he'd smiled when Mira had said something funny or challenging or completely unrealistic. It had always been the reaction she wanted to get out of him with the things that she said, a reaction from him that she'd secretly adored. Seeing him, smiling like that, for the first time in two months since they'd last seen each other...well, Mira knew the truth. "I just felt...this feeling, Kat," she finally said, turning to look at her friend seriously. "It felt like...burning. But a good kind of burning." She paused, trying to figure out how to phrase it. "Like at a campfire, and you're almost too close to the fire...but it's so cold and that fire feels so good that you don't want to move away," she explained. Mira wasn't so sure that the description would truly explain anything to Katerina, but it was the only explanation she could come up with. Did love have a specific feeling that could be factually described, that was the same for everyone? No, certainly not. Love had to feel different for everyone. And for Mira, it was the sensation of flames. There had always been that feeling between her and Fred whenever they'd been together, but in that particular moment, it was heightened to a sensation that had left her feeling breathless. And then the jealousy had come.
Mira took a desperate gulp of the liquor, the ache coming back to her. She wanted to drown out that ache with whatever means possible. But, she had to continue with the story. "Anyways," she said, tracing a finger around the rim of the bottle, "After seeing Fred and Elena together, I kind of snapped. That's when Leo came along and it was the perfect opportunity." A wry smile twisted onto her lips. "So, I asked Leo to kiss me, and being a good friend he did. He agreed to pretend to date me to try and see if Fred still had feelings for me. I had to know, Kat. I had to. He couldn't have just...forgotten in a month's time, it didn't seem possible," Mira said. She said, her eyes drifting back to the blonde. "We've tried everything to get a reaction out of Fred. But today...I don't know. I saw him with her and he just seemed..." she trailed off digging her spoon into the clumps of ice cream. "Happy." There was a long pause as she shoved the cold treat into her mouth and let the taste overwhelm her senses. "I don't want to ruin that, not anymore." How could she? It was not her right to take away someone's happiness. Not to Fred, not to Elena, not to anyone. It was such a horrible, bittersweet sensation, knowing you were maturing enough to understand basic moral and human rights. Mira would always be a little bit selfish, but she was beginning to understand now. And she absolutely loathed the fact, because now she was miserable, in a sense. But if Fred was happy...genuinely happy...then good for him. Her wounded feelings would subside eventually, right? He deserved to be treated better than how she'd treated him.

Some boys take a beautiful girl And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun Oh girls they want to have fun - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She watched Mira, as she thought about what she said. She didn’t doubt the girl’s feelings. Sometimes feelings were a bit irrational, heck her own feelings were sometimes so irrational. So she could definitely understand that maybe she didn’t just feel that way because she was jealous. Honestly whoever had decided that love had to be so complicated really needed someone to kick their butts because honestly who wanted to deal with this all the time, She took another bite of the ice cream as she let the sugar melt on her tongue. She could definitely understand why ice cream was considered comfort food, it was very easy to forget all of your issues when it came to having sugar and alcohol in your system. But since Mira had the bottle right now, she had to make do with the ice cream which worked just as well. She bit down on her lip as she heard Mira describe what she was feeling, there was no doubt that she probably felt more for the Swiss prince than she had originally thought. She didn’t blame her, because honestly sometimes falling for someone came so suddenly that you often wondered how the heck you even fell for that person in the first place. And most of the time, if it was like Mira’s situation, you asked yourself how on earth it had even happened.
“Mira, that means that you honesty fell for the guy” she said, “You honestly fell for probably the jerkiest guy in this whole place”
She watched as Mira took another swig of the vodka bottle, and she waited for her to continue because she had a feeling that she wasn’t over just yet. Elena? Well that was surprising, then again she wondered how on earth Fred was even still breathing. After all she was pretty sure there was some unwritten rule that you don’t date your friends sisters, or something stupid like that. She was sure that as soon as Dante returned from wherever the hell he was, well there would be hell to pay. Especially if Fred hurt Elena in any shape or form. Heck Kat wished she had the stupid Swiss prince in front of her now so she could throw a rather large book at his face for making Mira feel this way. She wasn’t used to the princess ever feeling this way, much like Kat’s current philosophy, they didn’t do love. They just dated and had fun with guys, there was no need for emotional strings. But here was Mira, having feelings for the most surprising person imaginable. Really life was just starting to get a little complicated. She knew that everyone deserved to be happy, but Kat hated that Fred was happy in spite of Mira. Mira deserved to be happy just as much as Fred did. Sure she had a spunky personality, but that didn’t take away from the wonderful person Kat knew Mira could be. It was all a matter of digging a little deeper beneath Mira’s tough girl façade was a person who could truly care.
“I’m sorry that it turned out that way, you deserve to be happy too Mira” she said, “I think, though it’s rather biased opinion because I care about you, you deserve to be happy more than him. I don’t like that he’s making you feel so horrible. But just know that I’m here, for whatever you need.”

there's a fire starting in my heart reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true][atrb=style,background-image: url('http://i53.tinypic.com/wb98wn.jpg');,true] ROLLING IN THE DEEP !
A sour look crossed her face but as her eyes met Katerina's gaze, her expression fell and she sighed. "I have, haven't I?" She agreed. And then, suddenly, Mira began to laugh. She didn't know what overcome her -- the exhaustion, the lack of sleep, the sugar rush, the heartache, or the vodka (most likely the vodka) -- but she was seized up in fits of giggles, handing her friend the bottle of vodka so that she would not spill it everywhere from laughing so ridiculously hard. "I'm in love with the most annoying guy on the planet!" Mira was laughing so hard that she was beginning to curl up into a ball, her laugh so high pitched it was almost like no sound was coming out of her at all -- the way it was when she really, really laughed. Her eyes were squeezed shut and she was pretty sure tears were coming out of her eyes, but suddenly she didn't know whether it was from laughing...or whether she was actually crying now. "Dammit!" She cried out, flipping over to bury her face into her pillow, hoping the waves of drunkenness would just overcome her and she would fall asleep. She was thoroughly drunk at this point, that much was obvious, but Mira had never been the miserable type of drunk. She could get moody sometimes, but never overemotional; there was a reason everyone had always wanted to party with Mira. She was just fun when she was drunk.
Except right at this very moment. Mira felt anything but fun -- in fact, she was wishing she could feel nothing at all, but even copious amounts of vodka couldn't completely rid of the dull ache in her chest, especially since they were sitting here talking about her current situation rather than trying to forget it. She listened to Katerina's attempt to be comforting, and squeezed her eyes shut further, letting her mind run wild with random, various thoughts, something that usually occurred when liquor was involved. She grinned into her pillow, though, when Kat defended her. Oh, Katerina. She liked the sass in that girl. Mira wished they could have spent more time together as children; she had a feeling they would have had an even closer bond. They were good friends, and knew each other well, but having been separated when younger, things had kind of changed the dynamic between the two of them. "It's not his fault though," she said slowly, the words coming out slurred. "He can't help it that I'm a loony." It was true -- it was not Fred's fault that Mira had been so indecisive all of this time, unable to confront her feelings for such a long while. He'd put his heart on the line, Mira had crushed it, and now she was getting a healthy dose of karma. Wonderful. "But thanks, Kat," she said, rolling over closer to the girl. "You're my girl." Her arms reached out and she pulled Katerina into a close hug, most definitely squishing her uncomfortably in her drunken stupor.
