[style=background: transparent; width:240px; padding:5px; text-align: center; font-size: 9px;]WORDS ### TAGGED Aramis It was late that Saturday. Bastian sat on his bed alone reading a book. The room was quiet since it was empty. Everyone was at the Rose Ball partying the night away. Bastian had chosen to avoid the ball this year. A night where he didn't have to keep up his facade was very welcomed in his opinion. It wasn't something he got very often and thus he chose to give it to himself at least this night. He still had two years at Vineheart and thus two years worth of Rose Balls to attend. He wouldn't exactly be missing out on much.
He sighed as he closed his book and walked over to the window sill. It was a beautiful night. The sky was clear and moon shone brightly in the dark night. The stars sparkled with a beautiful glow. He smiled at the mesmerizing sight and wondered if his mother could see the same sky from home. It had been months since he had last seen his mother. During the winter holidays to be exact. His bosses had done him the favor of flying her, his new baby brother and step-father so that he could at least spend Christmas with them. The time spent together had been very rejuvenating for the young Ukrainian servant. Or rather the Hungarian spy. What had it been? Five years since he had been placed in the Ukrainian castle posing as a servant to spy on the royals. He sighed again the thought. This task had been as difficult as he had thought it would be but none the less it exhausted him. It hadn't been because he had any grudge against the Ukrainians but merely because he needed the money to save his mother. That had been the only thing he had thought when he accepted the job. He doesn't regret taking the task but that doesn't mean that he's enjoyed doing it especially after he had been assigned to Aramis. The Ukrainian prince had done nothing more than consider Bastian his friend all this time. Things would be easier if he had reason to dislike the Ukrainians but when you were around someone like Aramis that was rather difficult to do. NOTES keep it short |

Aramis made his way back to his dorm after the Rose Ball ended. It was the annoying smell of alcohol in his breath. It was not a very pleasant experience in his sixteen years of life. The Hungarian princess was definitely not the type of likable girl due to what she had done to him on that day. Aramis never drank but he broke the rule once because of her and thanks to her as well, he was having slight dizziness. Everything in front of his eyes was blurred out and he thought he was staggering. Honestly, the Ukrainian prince never wanted to become one of the rebellious teenagers at his age since he was a prince after all and he was possibly a role model of some young children in his country. Now that anything involved in going spoiled would make him lose his reputation at anytime, Aramis never let himself touch a drop of alcohol. But he betrayed himself and his pride just because of a girl who oh-so-casually turned out his enemy. It was a tough process for him to get back to his dorm since he fell a few times and sometimes he even had to cling to the wall to keep on walking. Vera would get furious if she knew everything about his terrible date with Julianna. She had already objected to the idea of him attending the ball with their enemy at the first place but he decided not to listen to her. Now he had to pay for his stubbornness. Had Julianna and her boyfriend been there, they would have laughed at his face definitely as they won literally. They had done a very good job in embarrassing him. “Congratulations!” He thought and smiled bitterly.
At last, Aramis managed to reach his room safely without causing an accident or any wounds for himself. Lazily, he opened the door and entered the room. The bright light hit his eyes so badly that he released a small groan. “Hey Bastian! How was your night? I hope it was better than mine!” His gaze settled on the familiar face of his servant who was standing by the window, giving him the weirdest look contained curiosity and surprises. “I strongly believe that I see there are two of you in the room…” He mumbled when narrowing his eyes to make sure that he was not mistaken. Ignoring the strangeness of his vision, the prince fell down on the bed, feeling the ceiling spinning around above his head. He wondered what Bastian would say about his boss getting drunk for the first time in life. He was not conscious enough to define whether his servant was shocked or not but he was pretty sure that he was. It was not everyday people could see the Ukrainian prince as drunk as a skunk. “You were very smart when refusing going to the ball to stick to your book.” He said while breathing heavily. Anger ran spread throughout his body. What in his head were all the images of Julianna and he could think of nothing else besides her. He detested her, he hated her, thinking of her could make him dizzy… and he missed her. Why could not she spend a few minutes at the ball with him? Just a few minutes – it was all what he asked. Why she had to hurt him so bad so that she could be happy? Didn’t she know he was trying to be her friend? The war had nothing to do with his sincerity and he wholeheartedly wanted to be someone she could count on. She really had no idea about that. She never would, would she? That she ditched him at the ball hurt him a lot and she did not understand. How cruel… Life was never a bed of roses, wasn’t it?

[style=background: transparent; width:240px; padding:5px; text-align: center; font-size: 9px;]WORDS ### TAGGED Aramis Bastian sat there enjoying the view and cool breeze. He was brought out of his thoughts by the sound of the door opening. First off he was not expecting anyone in the room at the time. By his time he expected the Ball to still be going on for a while longer, and even after the ball ended most of the royals and servants tended to party just a bit longer. It was a bit more of a surprise when he watched Aramis come in. It wasn't the fact that it was Aramis coming for after all this was his room but it was the state the Ukrainian prince was coming that surprised Bastian. A fool could tell that one Aramis was drunk, and badly so considering how he staggered and just fell onto his bed. "Clearly." he said as he simply watched Aramis. Now this was a first. Aramis had always been known as the good boy. The one who made the proper choices and always presented himself in a very good fashion. Never in Bastian's time as a servant to the Ukrainians did he ever see nor did he ever believe that Aramis would even touch a glass of alcohol and yet here he was drunk like never before.
To be honest it rather amusing. This was going to be a long night. "Do I even want to know the girl that put you in this mess?" he asked as he got up and closed the window and shutting the curtains. The cold air would do the prince no good. Bastian retrieved a trash can and placed it on the side of Aramis bed. No doubt he'd probably be needing that tonight. "It would be best if you get under the covers at least." he instructed. He wasn't exactly sure how Aramis would be to completely changing out of his clothes but he needed to at least stay warm. Bastian placed two water bottles on Aramis bedside drawers. Aramis would be feeling very dehydrated in no time and thus the water would come in handy. Bastian knew that Aramis apparent drinking was caused by some girl because there was no way in this world that he would drink for any other reason. Aramis was not like many of the royals that enjoyed drinking and partying. He was a well mannered person and it would take some amazing reason for the Ukrainian prince to step outside of his own boundries and put in him such a state. "I'm going to assume that your night didn't go as planned if you put yourself in this situation. I pray Vera didn't see if not a hangover isn't the worse thing that will happen to you." Aramis could not hear the hard wind blowing outside after the windows were closed. It was a good thing, he guessed. He had never ever been drunk in his life so he was obviously not so knowledgeable about what he shoul and what he should not do after drinking. Bastian, on the contrary, appeared to be rather experienced in the situation. Having such a good friend take care of him when he was in the worst condition must have been God’s blessing. Suffering the headache, which was the result of drinking too much, was not pleasant at all. Even though he could not see anything as clearly as he did normally, his ears were not completely useless as the sound of the footsteps and the trash can being moved came to his ears and eventually increased the seriousness of the dizziness he was having. Well, he guessed there was the first time for everything; who knew if he would got drunk again in the future? If so, he might get some precious experience from this time and be well prepared. Aramis felt his stomach screaming annoyingly and something was moving upward in his throat. He wanted to rest but he could not due to some reasons. But it was Bastian’s question kept him rather conscious again. The effects of alcohol made his face look red but the question made it blush even more. He sluggishly sat up and turned to look at his friend with curiosity in his eyes. “You know everything…” He uttered surprisingly. Slowly, he lied down again as his eyes were wide open and staring at the ceiling. “She was a very smart and cruel girl…” He commented. “Julianna.” The name finally slipt out of his lips gracefully as the way it sounded. The Ukrainian prince was forced to think of his terrible date again but he felt so serene this time when remembering how pretty she was in her dress. She was probably the most attractive one at the ball – at least that was what he thought. And she must have been the shiftiest girl among the girls at Vineheart. Aramis noticed that Bastian was saying something else to him but he ignored his words immediately, especially because his head was filled with pictures of Julianna. It would be rapture for her if she knew how awful he had become thanks what she had done to him.
“Nothing went right tonight, Bastian. I was ditched by my own date because she wanted to be with another guy.” He frowned when mentioned the unpleasant experience. Aramis and Bastian had been friends since they were much younger; thus, they were quite close to each other. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian prince hardly revealed his thoughts and his feelings to any of his friends, including his servant, because he honestly did not want any of them to see his weaknesses. Drunken people did crazy things, he guessed. The weak side of him was being shown. If the listener was his enemy, he would be dead certainly as it was so easy to kill somebody when you know their weaknesses. On the other hand, should the listener was a good friend then it would be much easier to suffer the pain when being able to share it with somebody. Bastian was definitely the second type in the two typed were mentioned. Aramis strongly believed that. “My, my, my… I’m a failure tonight. I even dared to say that I would steal her first kiss in front of her boyfriend. She was one step ahead of me this time.” He muttered disappointedly. Aramis still felt something was still moving upward in his throat. It was going to be along night to him.

[style=background: transparent; width:240px; padding:5px; text-align: center; font-size: 9px;]WORDS ### TAGGED Aramis This was not Bastian's first drunk. His mother had been a small time healer and thus he had been exposed to such situations and of course when his mother had gotten sicker he helped more. It was because of his mother that the idea of becoming a doctor was first placed into his head. That is of course the madness that he put himself into. He sighed to himself. Every time he thought about what he was doing it broke him inside. A part of him hated doing what he was doing to someone like Aramis, someone who has been nothing but kind to him since their first meeting. It wasn't anything personal, just business. That didn't make it right though.
Bastian was grabbing a small cloth when he heard the name of the one who could push Aramis into this state. "Julianna? Of Hungary? Your date for the ball was the Hungarian princess and Vera didn't rip your head off? Fascinating." he said in a bit of disbelief. Bastian stepped into the bathroom to run the cloth under the cold water. This had been unexpected. Bastian hadn't asked Aramis about his date but the last person he had expected. He was trying to grasp his head around that when Aramis explained how his night had gone. The poor fellow. Bastian turned the water off and twisted the cloth to release the excess water. He returned to the room with the folded cloth. "You let your guard down for a moment and your enemy took the advantage to make a fool of you. My friend, that is why they say that nothing is fair in love and war. Here." he said motioning to the towel and placing it securely on the Ukrainian prince's forehead. Bastian hated using the word 'friend'. A friend would not being doing what he was doing to Aramis.
Bastian settled back into a sitting position on Aramis's bed. "May I ask exactly how you were able to strike up relationship of any kind with the Hungarian princess? Especially if you went so far to ask her as your date tonight." NOTES keep it short |

The emotion was shown obviously in Bastian’s voice when he asked surprisingly after hearing the name said out loud by Aramis. Bastian was not the first and only one who was astonished about the news as a fool was smart enough to know how much the Ukrainians and the Hungarians hated each other. The war was the cause of everything and the hatred was just like an infectious disease; each generation inherited it genetically as if it had been in their blood even before they were born. And that the Ukrainian prince asked his enemy to go with him to the ball was rather unbelievable to anybody. If the gossip magazines were aware of such news, they would do nothing but try to exaggerate the rumors. And if they knew Aramis was fooled like a three-year-old child, he would become an interesting subject for the world to discuss about. A cheesy smirk grew on his lips when he heard his servant mention his sister. “I wouldn’t be here and talking to you if she were aware of what I did. Ripping my head off is definitely not the worst thing she could do if she knew the whole ‘dating’ thing.” He said confidently, despite the terrible headache which was torturing him badly. He did not let his sister know a thing about his plan as he was rather knowledgeable about how furious she could be once she found out that her brother had some interactions with their enemy. His failure might become something considerably serious to her in some respects. “There will be a murder or at least an explosion right here in this academy if you let her know what happened today, Bastian.” He reminded carefully. Vera was a nice sister who sometimes became annoying due to her overreactions to some very small problems. Aramis wholeheartedly loved and respected her but his way of judging things was plainly different from hers.
The pain caused by the dizziness had been eased when Bastian placed the towel on his forehead. He was absolutely grateful to his servant for whatever he was doing for him as it did a great job in making him feel better. Aramis was a real mess tonight and if Bastian had not been there to take care of him, he would have been even worse. The Ukrainian prince always felt that he was extremely lucky to have such a good friend like Bastian. He was pretty sure that finding someone like that boy among seven billion people in the world was nothing less than a wonder. The comfort lasted a few minutes before Aramis got annoyed again due to Bastian’s later comment on the Hungarian princess. “She is not my enemy…” He claimed in fury and quickly sat up but then the headache made him groan quietly. He lied down again but still carried a frown on his face. “Julianna… I never see her as my enemy. She is just the daughter of my parents’ enemies. I have nothing to do with their personal enmity! There is no reason for me to make her my enemy.” He said. The anger did no good to his situation. Now the headache got worse and worse. Aramis could feel that he might throw up at anytime. However, he managed to keep whatever was moving upward in his throat stay still at its position as he tried to calm down. The next question turned out quite amusing to him and he almost completely forgot about the uncomfortable feeling he was having. “Well… I did not ask her. It is more right to say that I forced her to be my date. We had a good time challenging each other and the victory was mine at last so she had no other choices besides becoming my date… and ditching me like she did.” He sighed.

[style=background: transparent; width:240px; padding:5px; text-align: center; font-size: 9px;]WORDS ### TAGGED Aramis "Me tell Vera. Do you think I have a death wish?" Vera wasn't a bad person. The girl simply was very serious and protective when it came to things like her family which wasn't odd. Bastian knew though that the fact that Aramis had asked the princess of Hungary to the Rose Ball would sit well with Vera and was not about to be the one that told her.
Bastian wasn't phased by Aramis's sudden outburst. He'd admit it was a bit surprisingly but he didn't show any reaction. ""Fine. I won't call her your enemy if you stay calm." Where was this coming from he wondered. Bastian figured that most of it was coming from the alcohol but alocohol would only expand on feelings that already exist so why was Aramis here so defensive when it came to Juliana and when exactly did this little relationship begin to blossom? Bastian didn't normally ask about Aramis's social life. That wasn't his job after all. "You forced her into being your date and then she ditched you?" To be honest not surprising. He would have been more surprised if Julianna had actually stayed with Aramis. No offense to the prince. "You had quite the night didn't. Honestly though Aramis. She upset you so much you let yourself get like this? Don't tell me you're in love with her? " How else could Bastian explain it. Aramis obviously had to have some sort of feelings for this girl. This wasn't something Bastian wanted. It would only make his life and job that much more difficult. Yes, it was selfish of him to being thinking like that but anyone in his position would probably be thinking the same especially if they had a heart.
"Just take care Aramis. Just because you don't see her as your enemy doesn't mean she feels the same. The last thing I want to see is my best friend getting used by a girl." he used the words "best friend" with a heavy heart. In reality he didn't like the world, or at least the words being used to describe their relationship. A real best friend wouldn't be doing what Bastian was doing. They wouldn't be lying all the time. Aramis sighed in relief when he heard Bastian said that he would not let his sister know a thing about what had happened during the ball. Vera was always caring sister to him but he was no longer a child and he deserved to have his own space and the right to do what he wanted, despite the fact that something what he wanted was wrong and stupid. The headache was torturing him so badly that even though he wanted some sleep but he could not. And getting angry clearly did no good to his condition. But he could not prevent himself from getting furious when hearing his servant considered Julianna as his enemy. The war happened between two countries was not her fault and they had no reason to hate each other so desperately like that. But he guessed it was only his point of view in this case. He did hope one day Julianna, at least, would become his friend but that dream seemed to be so far away from his reach. She did not mind hurting his feelings at all and he realized that it would be a miracle if she accepted to be his friend. Nevertheless, he never wanted anybody, including his best friend, to think of her as the greatest enemy of his. He lay down again and put the tower stably on his forehead. He continued telling Bastian about his night. Bastian, just like what he had expected, did not try to act normally as he usually did when it came to unusual things. He was surprised – an idiot could tell that after just listening to his voice. “Just like that!†Aramis said bitterly in response. The Ukrainian prince did not hide his frown when Bastian commented after that. “No, I’m not! What the hell are you thinking? Me in love with that arrogant girl? There are many girls in this academy. Why would I choose her?†He reacted immediately so as to disprove the idea given earlier. He hoped the Hungarian princess and he could become friends, not lovers. He had been telling himself the same thing since the day he decided to force her to be his date. But… it still hurt him watching her being with another guy.
The silence remained for a while before he started to say again. “I don’t know, Bastian. She seems nice, doesn’t she?†He asked while looking at the ceiling vaguely. He began to notice that there was something very attractive about Julianna which he had never known until then. He liked how she showed off as if nobody were better than her. If he was really in love with her, things would become a whole lot of tragic. Aramis knew that but her image kept lingering in his head even though he was completely drunk. Suddenly, he felt so weak. It was like he had lost all of his strength to guard up and resist her. Bastian was right, however. Even if he had truly desired to be with her, she would not have felt the same way. She had Zephyr and he knew that only God could separate them two. He was not God obviously? Should he go to the church and pray that they would break up some day? That sounded stupid, didn’t it? He laughed quietly at his selfish thought. Since when had he become this selfish? And since when had he cared about his enemy’s personal life? There were so many questions appeared in his head, waiting for an answer but he himself could not answer them. “You can call me stupid now, Bastian. Don’t worry. I’m not going to fire you. Just do something to wake me up from this hopeless dream.†He said bitterly in laughter.

[style=background: transparent; width:240px; padding:5px; text-align: center; font-size: 9px;]WORDS ### TAGGED Aramis "Just like that." he repeated with a sigh. What could he really say to Aramis about the situation. He didn't budge at Aramis sudden outburst of denial at Bastian's notion of him having romantic feelings for the girl but Bastian was unconvinced. He even raised an eyebrow in disbelief. ""Really? Then tell me something my friend. How exactly did you feel when you saw her ditch you for another guy? You say you simply want to be her friend and yet her little deception affected you enough to allow yourself to get drunk?" he said in a cool but blunt tone. Bastian was very respectful of Aramis but at the same time he was honest with guy. Or at least as honest as he could possibly be considering his situation. He figured he owed Aramis that much at least so he tried his very best to be as honest as possible when speaking to Aramis. "Why would you choose her? I don't know but I doubt that you would have been able to put yourself in this state if friendship had been your true intention." he said in a softer tone. This had not been caused by disappointment in the fact that Aramis's attempted at friendship had failed tonight. There was more to this even if Aramis was yet to realize it or admit. The way Aramis so quickly and passionately denied Bastian's earlier statement spoke volumes.
A small silence fell on the two before Aramis spoke again. Now this question caught Bastian a bit off guard. "Perhaps. Then again her little game tonight would beg to differ." he said nonchalantly. Bastian spoke as if he had never interacted with the Hungarian princess when in reality he had met with Julianna on various occasions, mostly to give the family any updates that would be useful to them. Of course those meetings were kept and dealt with in secret. Bastian couldn't afford being seen with Julianna without arising too much suspicion. He chuckled a bit. "I'd never call you stupid. Perhaps a tad foolish and a bit too trusting but never stupid." he said with a teasing tone as his gaze softened before he turned away and stared at the wall in front of him. He had a thoughtful look on his face before he spoke."My advice Aramis, don't get close to her." he said plainly with a sigh. "Don't get close to her....unless you know exactly what you want. If it be friendship or something more. Until you truly know what it is you seek you'd only be setting yourself for heartache that I'd rather have you avoid." Bastian spoke in thoughtful voice and after another moment he said, "Plus I rather not watch over a drunk you again." in a teasing tone to lighten the mood. Bastian could have said to completely avoid Julianna, to not try and be friends with her or anything but he couldn't. It would be against the character Aramis knew. Although this would no doubt only cause Bastian problems in the future it would have to be something he'd have to face. NOTES keep it short |
