It was the end of their first week back, and they had won the mock trade negotiations, shocking the hell out of their classmates, much to Gabriella's amusement. The expressions on their peer's faces had made all of the hard work the pair of them had put into their project completely worth it. The hard work had been fun, truth be told, as soon as the ice had broken between Victor and herself. Her moods had definitely been overly happy ever since Christmas. Sure, her last year might not have gone according to plan, but this next one definitely would. As some sort of twisted Christmas present, her parents had told her on Christmas Day that she wasn't going to be marrying Dante after all. She was relieved that they'd finally seen reason, but unsure what they had planned for her next. At least for the moment she didn't need to care, and was free to spend her time doing what she wished, with whom she wanted.
So when their teacher had told them their price was a fancy dinner at The Lantern, Gabriella was excited for the chance to get to spend time with her partner again. She hadn't seen Victor in a few weeks, and if the truth be told, she missed talking to him. Bri enjoyed his company more than almost any of her other friends, and she'd dressed to impress for this dinner. Unfortunately she'd had some car troubles, with her vehicle getting a flat tire and she strode into the restaurant 15 minutes late, hoping he was still waiting.
At last her eyes found him, and her eyebrows lifted for a second as she took in the suit he was wearing. Bri hadn't expected her friend to look so... dashing. Her dark haired friend was sitting by himself drinking some sort of alcohol from the looks of it, and the English princess couldn't say she was surprised. Out of all of her friends, he was by far the least social, but she didn't mind. Victor was one of the most down to earth people she knew, and Gabriella loved that he shared her attitude about not caring what other people thought. And it had been sweet of him to wait for her at all. She carefully wove in and out of the tables of people, taking in the grandness of the room. The crystal chandelier cast a warm glow over the elaborate white and gold crown moulding, and the floors positively gleamed. There was even a string quartet and a dance floor in the middle of the room. “I'm so sorry I'm late!" Bri exclaimed once she was close enough to the Slovakian prince.
His hair was shagged forward in quite an adorable manner, she noticed as he stood to greet her. There were small creases between her eyebrows and she was biting her lower lip again with worry. “My car got a flat, so I had to call a tow and grab a taxi the rest of the way.” Despite the nerves she beamed up at him, enjoying that, despite the fact that she was wearing heels he was still taller than her by several inches. Her eyes trailed around the room, pausing briefly on the quietly talking people before turning back to her companion's stormy grey eyes. More went on behind them than most people gave him credit for and ninety percent of their peers had no idea how charmingly honest and funny this prince was. It was a shame really, but Gabriella didn't mind. It meant that she had more time with Victor all to herself.

Surprisingly to some, he and Bri had actually won the whole thing about trade negotiations, though Viktor had actually seen it coming. Their strongest opposition had been the Russian princess and her partner, the Mexican prince. Out of the others, no one else had done the amount of research needed, and no one had prepared as much. Okay, granted, neither he nor Bri had actually prepared for long. The only thing they’d done had been to give each other what they were going to say, fields that one or the other would cover regardless of who would be speaking at the time, so they could help themselves, and then went through all their notes and all the stuff together. It had been a piece of cake really; Bri had done most of the writing down by hand, and while she was doing that, on the other end Viktor was already typing everything out onto the computer and making sure they had nice, printed versions of all that they needed. In the end, they would’t have needed those anyway. As stated before, only one other team had been prepared, and that one had gone out with a bang because Bri had saved the both of them by remembering a quirky little fact that Viktor had originally thrown out of his notes. Thus, he was actually grateful to her for that one. He’d have to thank her soon; after the whole deal the school had pretty much wrapped up with the chaos of the Winter Ball and then they all flew to their respective destinations. As in, home. His brother had been keen enough, but Viktor had spent most of the holidays bored out of his skull, or reading a book in one alcove or the other. He didn’t know why, normally he was glad to be home because school had never really held the same appeal for him as for the others. Maybe it was the company.
In any case, he was back now, and it was a good thing too. Tonight was their reward night. He’d been surprised that their professor had actually cashed out as he had, because honestly, dinner at the Lounge? Viktor would never have dreamed of it. It was expensive, not expensive, it was pricey, high-class, and a place where the Kings or Queens of Vineheart would probably go to if any of them would have bothered to really think about it in the first place. But he wasn’t about to complain, so after verifying that Bri was of the same mind as he was, meaning they’d actually go there, Viktor had pulled out a dark suit with a turtleneck of the same colour underneath. He was dressed to impress; he did have SOME appearances to upkeep, after all, and he was pretty sure Bri would be dressed like the proper princess. He wondered how far her situation with Dante was. For that, he still felt both sorry and angry, because he didn’t think it was fair to her that she’d be tied to someone who was obviously not in love with her, but her twin sister. But Viktor would make sure not to bring it up tonight; this was their victory night after all, he had to make sure she had fun. That was what this was all about, really. He was a bit early when he arrived, but it wasn’t a problem. Restaurants like these always served their customers like they were royalty, regardless whether they were or weren’t and their reservation was one that couldn’t be overlooked. So taking a seat, Viktor ordered himself a martini to start with, while he’d be waiting. He didn’t think he’d have to wait long, but looks could be deceiving, and after about fifteen minutes, he was beginning to wonder whether he’d be stood up, or if it was just his imagination. Twenty minutes in, and he looked up when he heard steps, feeling his lips quirking upwards when he saw her coming towards him. Viktor stood when she got near enough. It’s no problem, he told her with a small smile, I’m glad you could make it – you should’ve called me though. I came with a car myself, I’d have picked you up. The way she bit her bottom lip was adorable, he had to admit that. For once being the gentleman without the witty remark – to start them off nicely enough – he pulled out a chair for her, Have a seat. He lowered himself back down himself, unbuttoning his jacket as he did so, because it was too constricting otherwise. Hope you don’t mind, but I got thirsty while I was waiting, he commented, looking at the glass in front of him, then back up at her, and before any interruptions – you look nice. A proper victor.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside The feeling she'd gotten when the class had been told who had won the project prize had been fantastic. Their classmates had looked at the English and Slovakian pair with a variety of expressions ranging from mild surprise to something that could only be likened to shell shock. There had been jealousy and respect, anger and admiration, and Gabriella had basked in the feeling of finally being on top. Victor likely didn't know it, but he'd earned the total loyalty of a best friend, and not just for being such a good team mate for the duration of the project. That first day in the library had been... well, what he'd said had been exactly what Bri had needed to hear, though at the time she hadn't known it. While they hadn't talked about her situation since then, she was planning on bringing it up tonight with him. She wanted him to be the first one to know about her new freedom.
And so it was that despite her car troubles and the fact that she was exactly twenty minutes late, she came striding in feeling like the happiest person on the planet. Even the fact that she'd had to call a cab for the rest of the trip hadn't been able to put a dampener on her mood. The only downer was that she'd kept Victor waiting, but upon seeing that he had simply been patiently waiting for her even that internal knot had undone itself. Her parents announcement had put Gabriella over the moon, so much so that it was like she'd been riding a high for the past week and a half. It was like she had a secret, and that secret was keeping her insides lit up with happiness. Every time the high faded even the slightest bit all she had to do was remember and a grin would spread across her face and through her whole being. Like it was right now.
Christmas break had been good, but she sure had missed him. The sight of him in his darkly coloured suit was enough to warm her insides again, and though her apologies as she approached were completely sincere, Bri was mostly just happy to see him. As for his offer to pick her up, well that simply made her blush a little. A streak of shame ran through Gabriella before she remembered that she had nothing to be ashamed of anymore. From now on she could blush and flirt with and kiss whomever she wanted if she chose to. “That's really sweet of you to offer Victor, thank you." Settling gracefully in her chair, Bri picked up the menu sitting on her plate. “I might have to impose on you for the ride home," she admitted with a barely contained grin.
Wow, it was good to feel good again! Bri enjoyed the way his eyes trailed over her, taking in her appearance. The English princess wasn't a big fan of heels or dresses, but this was a special occasion and the outfit was her own, not one that had been chosen for her. “I don't blame you in the slightest," she assured him, flagging down a waiter and ordering a bottle of champagne. The man was clearly good at his job, as made apparent by the way he re-appeared with a bottle and glasses almost instantly. “We're celebrating, aren't we?" she said by way of explanation, smiling broadly with eyes sparkling. Bri knew that if she didn't tell him what was going on soon she was going to explode, but just as she opened her mouth to say something Victor took a second to compliment her, eliciting a gentle laugh from the princess. “Thanks, I actually got to pick my own clothes this time. Usually Will tries to take over with these sorts of things." Her servant definitely had an eye for colour and because she wasn't very good at this sort of thing she often asked for his opinion on outfits for formal events such as this. Bri had wanted to look good for tonight, even going so far as to add more curl to her silky hair.
Not even ten seconds went by before she reached across the table and took his hand. To anyone watching the move probably appeared intimate, and Gabriella didn't realize how reminiscent it was of the way Victor had held hers across the library table on the first day of the project. All she knew was that she wanted him to feel more connected right now for some inexplicable reason. Bri didn't just want to see his reaction, she wanted to feel it. “I have something to tell you too." Now that the moment was here she felt oddly nervous about what he was going to say. Happy fluttery feelings spread through Gabriella's stomach as she squeezed his hand, biting her lip again. Her whole body felt electrified, like she could run for hours without getting tired.

He was still pretty much basking in the feeling of having won that idiotic competition really. Because, why shouldn’t he? They’d donea pretty good job with preparing and then going through the motions. He was pretty sure that if anything like this had been an actuality, that they would have swept away any competition just like that. It would have been a piece of cake for them, Viktor had sort of gotten the feeling they were a well-oiled machine on that case. He was definitely going to be enjoying tonight. Looking at Gabriella and the smile she wore, Viktor had to admit that she looked absolutely stunning; and actually, there seemed to be more than just the smile, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. She looked ... confident, happy. Happier than he’d seen her in a while, thanks to her situation with Dante and Vivien and all the shenanigans that had gone down during that particular scandal time. He was personally still angry with the both of them for putting her through what they had. How hard could it have been to tell her and be done with it? It would have saved them all a lot of trouble. Viktor knew he would never, EVER have anything like that happen to him. He wanted to be sincere and honest in a relationship, not lit to people about it. And he wanted to be public with it too, so hiding in closets or under pretexes of planning his brother’s wedding or something were definitely out as well. Still, it was nice to see Bri so happy as she was now, he’d tried doing anything in his power to get her to smile properly during the project because honestly? She wasn’t close to being the same person when she was all down and glum. Which was why he had coaxed her out into the open from working in the library after the while, to show everyone she could hold her head high. It had taken him a while, but it had worked eventually.
His offer had actually been sincere, because really, why should she go with a cab or walk when he was here with his car tonight? He would have opposed to it when his father had actually sent the thing to him, but now that he looked at it in a different light, well, it could come in handy. Well, I have to be sweet sometime to make up for all the other times when I’m being a douche to people, he replied with a small smile and sat once she was seated herself, making sure not to catch his jacket anywhere on the chair. At her next words, his smile widened a little bit, Not a problem. The car’s big enough for the both of us. He chuckled at that, then watched as she managed to get the attention of a waiter easily enough and order, though he lifted an eyebrow when the champagne was brought. Something tells me we’re celebrating quite a bit tonight, he said with a small laugh, but obviously pleased. He would enjoy himself, he was sure, and seeing Bri in such good spirits? Well, it topped everything else. Viktor put aside his empty martini glass and made sure to take the one with champagne, though his attention was focused on Bri when she explained about her outfit, and he grinned. Well, it’s a nice dress, but the person wearing it makes the dress, not the other way around. His grey eyes, for once, were warm where they were usually as cool as the starless night they looked like. But with her bubbly appearance this evening, and the way she kept on laughing, well, it was hard not to feel the same way. Viktor could definitely see how she could basically hold an entire room captive just by appearing, it would have been enough. She would have made Dante the perfect Queen, if the guy had been actually fair enough to think about it, and consider it, rather than running after her twin sister. Oh well, tough luck to him. Her fingers touched his hand, and Viktor’s attention was captured instantly as his hand reacted almost on instinct, catching her own. What is it? Whatever it is if it’s got you on this high, I say never let it stop. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you laugh so much, or even smile. It made her look so free, so young. She’d looked so stressed out previously and so worried about everything, that it had added a couple of years to her. Now? Now Viktor was pretty sure that every guy here at the restaurant tonight was eyeing her and wanting to figure out how he’d managed to get on a date with her. Viktor, however, wasn’t about to share Bri tonight at all, not if he could help it.

Their uncoordinated attacks had been extremely ineffective against Victor and Bri's united front. They'd been so in sync, it had been almost unreal. There had been an instant during the negotiations when the topic of reducing trading taxes for less developed countries, in order to promote development, had come up and Bri had momentarily stumbled over her words. Thankfully, Victor had jumped into the discussion and saved her some embarrassment, taking over long enough for Gabriella to regain her train of thought. Needless to say, their teacher had been very impressed. Bri had a sneaking suspicion that he'd upgraded their prize as a reward for all of their obviously hard work. It had felt good to surpass everyone's expectations, and she and Victor had been an amazing team. Their timing was incredible, and the two of them had a very complimentary rhythm.
Speaking of rhythm... the band on the stage on the far side of the room had been playing since before she'd entered the restaurant, and her current mood made her want to dance. For now though she was happy to visit with her best friend. “I highly doubt that's true," she said, her lips turning up in a grin. Bri was half lying. She could totally see Victor speaking his mind; it was one of the reasons she liked him. And while other people might consider him a douche for doing it, Victor's honesty only made her like him more. She knew he'd never, ever keep something important from her; even if he knew it would hurt her, Victor knew she was strong enough to handle whatever was thrown at her -most of the time anyway. Wow, and did he ever look handsome tonight or what? At his words about the car being big enough for both of them Bri found herself blushing, though she couldn't for the life of her have explained why. “Well in that case, thank you," she said graciously.
The waiter had returned with their champagne, and Gabriella's only answer to Victor's unspoken question was an even bigger grin. It was like Christmas, and her birthday had arrived together or something, she felt so good. The last time Bri had felt this good... well, it was hard to remember ever being so excited about anything that didn't involve rule breaking, fast cars or her horse. His comment about the person making the dress as opposed to vice versa only served to further her blush. In an effort to mask her confusing embarrassment, Bri lifted her glass -now full of champagne- and proposed a toast. “To... us, the ultimate team. She paused, feeling as if the toast was incomplete. “But also, to the future!" Taking a sip, she quickly picked up the menu, selecting a choice within ten seconds. Gabriella almost always knew what she wanted, which was a good thing in most cases.
She quickly ordered the the Arctic Char, a dish of the cooked fish with vegetables and soup. The music had slowed to something jazzy and sultry, making Bri's legs itch to get out on the dance floor. Victor had barely finished ordering before she said, “Why don't we dance while we wait for dinner, and I'll tell you?" Since their hands were still joined it was easy to tug him along with her as she got up and led the way to the dance floor, sashaying her hips and giving him a sparkly eyed look. The fact that he was smiling back at her only notched Bri higher on the happiness scale at this point. After placing a hand on his shoulder and leaving the other joined with his, she looked right into Victor's ashy eyes. “Alright, so I don't want to make tonight about me, but I had to tell you myself." She was still smiling, but her stomach was all in nervous knots now for some reason. Despite this the words continued to tumble from her lips uncontrollably, because Victor was the first person she'd told and it was a big deal for her, and she didn't know what his reaction was going to be. “There isn't going to be a wedding. I'm not engaged any more!" Her body was vibrating with excitement, her face aglow with pure, unadulterated joy. Tonight couldn't get any better.

If he would ever have to do a group project again, he would definitely be requesting the English princess as a partner. Previously, he had been apprehensive, simply because they’d never worked together before, but it had turned out to be one of the best pairings, if not the absolute best. They’d proven their worth anyway, so there was no doubt about who was the absolute winner. Viktor would definitely enjoy rubbing it into other’s faces if they went all smart on him, especially in his little spats with the Russian princess, who seemed to enjoy coming out on top of every argument. Well, there was no way she could do so now, because she had no ground for it. She and her partner had been annihilated precisely by the duo now sitting at the victory table and enjoying their well-deserved reward. Viktor was definitely going to enjoy this onwards, he was sure of it. He chuckled when Bri contradicted him. Well, I make an exception for you, really. You’ve never actually seen me being an idiot, so that’s a huge plus for you. He winked at her across the table easily. It felt so natural to be sitting here with her and talking about whatever came to mind. Her blush was also adorable when he mentioned she could ride in his car back, and he smiled in response, You’re very welcome. He wouldn’t have allowed her to take a cab back regardless, that was absolutely no way to travel for someone like her. Sure he was being a bit of a snob, but honestly, she was probably one of the classiest princesses at the school, so she needed to travel around in style. And yes, his Lexus hybrid was a lot more stylish than an ordinary cab, thankyouverymuch.
The waiter brought their champagne and filled their glasses, and Viktor lifted his own as Bri made her toast. He found it ironic that she’d be toasting to the future, which for her meant marriage to Dante, but hey, it was her call. And to the best partner, he added at the end from his own point of view, smiling in her direction and enjoying the fact that he could make her blush. She was absolutely adorable and he wasn’t sure if she even realized it yet. She was gracious about it though, unlike a lot of other girls who would have a) stammered and stumbled over their words or b) been extremely awkward about it and just stutter into silence. It just went to show that she’d been born to rule a country someday, and her parents had definitely done a good job raising her, though her personality was entirely her own. It was one of the reasons why he liked her so much, she was a little firecracker when she wanted to be and she definitely knew when things needed to be said, even if she didn’t want to admit it out loud. Also, she could take practically anything Viktor threw at her, which was also a feat in itself. After all, most of their year mates thought he was an absolute jackass half of the time. Seeing him actually being nice to someone wasn’t what anyone had ever expected. He took a sip from his champagne and allowed the liquid to warm his stomach. His attention turned to the menu and he scanned it briefly, he never needed a lot of time to decide. Another thing they seemed to have in common. Ordering the Italian pasta with salmon, Viktor was barely finished with opening his mouth when Bri was already standing and dragging him along with her, given they were still holding hands. Woah, slow down girl! he laughed, but followed her anyway, after making sure he hadn’t accidentally taken anything with him in her haste to drag him out. The dancefloor’ll still be there when we get there, he teased her further, his eyes captivated by the rhythm of her hips for a moment before he dragged them back up to her face. He took hold of her, gently but firmly enough as they stepped to the music. You seem to be pretty high on energy tonight, he commented out loud, listening to what she said, and by all means, make tonight about you. I’m curious by this point, he added as an afterthought with a smile, waiting. He had never been that good with anticipation, but he had perfected the poker face of patience. That mask melted away the moment the words left her lips though, and Viktor could feel his face bein split by a grin he hadn’t thought possible for him to wear. All of a sudden, the world definitely seemed like a much better place. Bri, that’s amazing! he told her, slipping his arms from hold and wrapping them around her waist in a hug, before lifting her off the ground and turning them on the spot, laughing gently, That’s ... really, that’s beyond amazing, he said once he put her down again, unable to stop smiling. His hand lightly touched her chin, No wonder you look like you just won the life award. Congratulations.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside Bri had been sipping her champagne in the way her mother had drilled into her since she'd been legally old enough to drink. Rather, that's what Bri had been doing until Victor rogueishly winked across the table at her, eliciting a laugh from her and causing her to nearly inhale the remainder of the liquid. The only bit of luck she ended up having was that she hadn't choked, so hopefully he hadn't noticed her moment of embarrassment. Quick to cover it up, she looked at him with a huge grin on her face. “An exception? Well in that case, tell me, was it my charm or good looks that did it?" Oh god, had that come across as overly flirtatious? The thought only worried her for about a nanosecond, such was the mood she was in. Besides, Victor was her best friend and within a minute he'd understand her elated mood.
The second Victor had finished ordering his pasta with salmon her hand had grabbed a hold of his and was tugging him towards the dance floor. The tables were fairly widely spaced apart, so it was easy enough to weave her way between them with her best friend in tow. Her only answer to his exclamation was a quick look over her shoulder and a flirtatious smile. Both of them were grinning like idiots and people were staring, but being watched didn't bother Gabriella in the least anymore. On the contrary, she reveled in the attention, particularly the look her partner was giving her right now. The music was loud enough to mask their conversation from eavesdroppers, while still quiet enough that the two of them could hear each other clearly. Gabriella was impressed with the place, particularly enjoying how the plush carpet beneath the tables turned into tiles that were both firm and slightly giving beneath her feet. Whoever owned the restaurant had obviously taken pride in decorating the glamourous space. The floor to ceiling windows and curtains made the already high ceilings appear even more elevated than they actually were. The mood lighting gave a feeling of privacy at each table, while the dance floor was better lit to better display the colourful dancers on it.
In an odd happening, Bri realized that she was the only woman wearing black on the dance floor. In a myriad of colours, she was the darkest shade, mysterious and alluring among the too-bright hues of the women around her. After finding an opening near the center of the swirling dancers she slowed and the pair began moving to the music. He was taller than she'd remembered, still having a few inches on her despite the height of her shoes. Victor expressed his curiousity as to what this amazing secret was she was keeping and Bri -unable to stand it a second longer- told him. Truth be told, his reaction was more than she could have hoped for. The most she'd expected from him, given his reserved disposition, had been perhaps a squeeze of congratulations and a smile. Instead, her heeled feet completely left the ground and the world swirled for a second while their bodies were pressed against each other.
Her eyes -which had opened a little wider than usual in surprise- lowered in mild embarrassment when he touched her chin, bringing heat back into her cheeks. Looking up at him through her lashes, Bri found that when Victor had pulled her into the hug her hands had wound themselves around his neck. “I should give you good news more often," she said, laughing. It took almost twenty seconds but her face eventually sobered and she was able to focus back on his face again. Her hand slid to his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I just want you to know, I couldn't have gotten through it without you Vik." Their eyes locked and on a spur-of-the-moment thought Gabriella wondered what it might be like to kiss her best friend. The idea was hastily shoved aside, because ruining something so wonderful wasn't something she could even consider without getting queasy.
Another hug wasn't against the rules though, so she pulled him closer again, pressing her cheek against his chest beneath his chin. His hair was soft against her hands, which were dwarfed by the ones he currently had resting on her hips. "I feel like a totally different person," she confessed with a small smile. He smelled... comforting... and delicious. The music suddenly changed from jazzy to a softer, more romantic piece, and even though the movement of their bodies had slowed down, Gabriella's heart was pounding.

She was definitely ecstasic tonight it seemed, and the mood was rubbing off on Viktor as well. It wasn’t that he was gloomy all the time, but it really went to show how other people affected him whenever they were around. He knew he should probably wait and see what she was so happy about before getting all excited himself, but he couldn’t help it, she was just so ... he couldn’t describe it. The moment she’d walked through those doors she looked like she owned the place, something he hadn’t seen in her for a while now, especially due to the Dante/Viv fiasco. He was pretty sure that she still wasn’t entirely over that, but then he didn’t know the good news did he? All he knew was that his best friend was in the best of moods he’d seen her in in a while, and he was going to take advantage of that. It sure beat seeing her all down and gloomy hiding in the library so students at Vineheart wouldn’t notice her. Laughing when she did, and rolling his eyes at her flirtation, Viktor smiled right back at her with that charming aura he didn’t normally show off around just anybody. He could be charming if he wanted to be. He could even be suave, not that he practiced that one a lot of times. With Bri, tonight though, he felt like he needed to pull all the stops and just go with the flow, which was telling him that flirting with his best friend was definitely a good option at the time being. How about a little bit of both? I’d say I was charmed by your good looks and your charm’s looking good, he responded easily, winking across the table at her again with that easy expression resting on his face. It was so natural to be this way with her, regardless of anything and everything that had happened. Tonight wasn’t about anyone else but the two of them an their recent class victory. He was going to continue rubbing that into the faces of everyone else for a while afterwards.
Her flirtatios smile caught him off-guard as she led him towards the dance floor, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t respond to it in the only way he could, with a smile of his own. Viktor’s attention didn’t even waver from Bri once, despite the fact that there were looks thrown their way and that other women were practically standing out against the mysterious twilight of the dance floor. He didn’t realy care. Bri was the center of his attention right now, and he was used to people staring anyway. People always stared when royalty moved among them, and it wasn’t as if they could just wish their titles away. To have both the Crown Prince and one of the English princesses here tonight was beyond what the owner could probably want anyway. Royals frequented this restaurant, true, but not in the same amount as other places around Rexford and in close proximity to Vineheart. They didn’t normally want to go all out and stand out anyway, because they wanted to blend in. Viktor did have to admit though, that between Bri’s dark allure and his usual shadowy style, they drew more attention among the colourful scheme on tonight’s dancefloor than they would have originally thought. But the news she delivered was more than enough to brighten the entire room, and regardless of what everyone else felt, Viktor felt the need to hug her, turn her, do something to show her how pleased he was, out of character of his usual reserved nature. But he could be reserved another time, this called for a proper celebration! She returned his hug and he chuckled at what she said. Maybe. Then you wouldn’t get to see me so morose all the time, he teased her with the smile still in place. He’d probably remain smiling all night long and al day long tomorrow as well. The news as just so good, almost too good to be true, but he believed it because she looked like she was floating on air, and she so deserved it. His expression was warm when she said she couldn’t have gotten through without him. Sure you could’ve. You’re the strongest girl I know, Bri. I just gave you an extra push, but that’s about it. The only credit you should give here is to yourself. He smiled and leaned in, lightly pressing a kiss to her cheek. Friends could kiss on the cheek, right? There was no harm in that, and really, he just got the most out of his night so far anyway. Their luck was holding and there was no way he could ever feel anything but happy tonight. She curved herself close and Viktor settled his hands on her hips lightly, though he moved them to lace his fingers on her lower back soon after, resting his chin on top of her head as the music slowed and their steps fell in-stride to the beat without even missing one. They really did make a good team, inside the classroom and out. He smiled when he heard her words, moving his head to look down at her a little bit, to see her face, You look like one too, might I add. Happy. And you so deserve it. His hands tightened their hold just a little to show her he meant it, before he fell silent as they swayed gently to the music. He could feel her heartbeat against his own though, and she was making his own race too. Your heart’s like a hummingbird’s wings, he murmured gently, the smile never leaving his face.

It didn't matter what happened from here on out, her life had officially changed for the better. It didn't mean that everything was going to just be easy from now on, but it did mean that things would be better. One of the conditions of calling off the marriage was that she needed to at least marry someone of nobility, and honestly, as soon as Bri had been promised by both parents that she'd be allowed to pick her own spouse, it was a done deal. There hadn't been a single second of hesitation; she was just so happy to have any semblance of freedom back. Besides, how many normal, ordinary people did she even know? Aside from Will and a few other servants, there wasn't a single commoner Bri could say she knew well enough to consider dating, let alone marrying.
Even that wasn't an issue though, because now that she'd agreed to marry at least someone of noble birth, her parents had completely laid off on the pressure to say 'I do' to someone. So long as she married within a reasonable amount of time -like before she turned thirty for instance- they wouldn't have any problems. All in all, Bri was pretty sure the King and Queen of England had learned a valuable lesson from everything that had happened. What was going to happen with Vivien and Dante was a totally different matter, but now that she wasn't as involved in the situation Gabriella was more relaxed about the whole thing. Sure, she felt for her twin and hoped they found a way to work it out (even though that seemed near impossible given the current situation), but there was also a part of her that still resented what they had done to her. Hopefully time and some space would make that go away.
The dancing was sure to work up an apatite, and Bri was enjoying the feeling of being steered around the dance floor with Victor's hand on her waist. She felt good. She felt alive. Her ordinarily stoic friend was showing her a surprisingly light side of himself, and she loved it. This new side of him made him all the more mysterious and alluring to her, and Gabriella was intrigued to know more about this new Victor. “" Bri had never noticed just how dazzling her friend's smile was, but it softened his face and gave him a more youthful look. He didn't look so much like the weight of the world was on his shoulders. It was good; they deserved to party after all the hard work they'd done on that project. Honestly, Gabriella had a hunch that if they were ever -as a team- put up against a room full of real, trained diplomats the two of them would do just fine. Together they had held their own against a classroom full of their peers and the negotiations had quickly turned from everyone against everyone else to everyone against Victor and herself.
The way that he'd shrugged off her gratitude irritated her, despite the warm expression on his face. Pulling back slightly, her hands slid from around his neck to grip his shoulders before regarding him seriously. "That's bullox and you know it. I'm being serious Vik, don't brush it off. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through it without you." Bri paused, searching for words to express just how grateful she was to him. It had been really hard going through the emotional turmoil she had, but from the first day they'd begun working together on the project, everything had somehow seemed better. "It meant a lot, having someone completely on my side. I'm not actually sure how to thank you properly just yet, but I'll figure it out." Gabriella was beginning to realize that without him around her life had been pretty boring and bleak. Now it was as if reality had been thrown in a blender and come out with a myriad of colours.
Dancing with Victor was about the most comfortable she'd been dancing with anyone, ever. He was a good height for her, being not too tall or too short. If Bri was being honest with herself she would have admitted that she liked feeling his warm breath in her hair and the way his arms felt around her body. The way his hands rested on her back made her feel both strong and vulnerable at the same time. It felt so good, she almost didn't want to have to sit back down to eat. Couldn't they just keep dancing all night? You look like one too, might I add. Happy. And you so deserve it. She gave a little laugh at that, her eyes sparkling with delight. “Well then, I guess that makes two of us tonight. You aren't acting like yourself either." Were his eyes black, or were they actually just dark brown? Bri was close enough that she ought to have been able to tell, but the thundering of her pulse in her ears made it difficult to concentrate.
Her head had nestled back beneath his chin and they had made several leisurely rotations before they spoke again. This time it wasn't anything to do with their performance together or her un-engagement, but rather the simple fact that her heart was pounding quickly enough that he'd picked up on it. How embarrassing was that, honestly? “Oh, you can feel that? Sorry, excitement does this to me." A soft smile had settled across Bri's features, but for the moment that's all she felt like saying. That is, until the waiter gave the discrete wave that meant their dinner was ready and waiting at the table. Her stomach gave a small growl as she followed Victor off the dance floor.

He didn’t know all the details to the deal she must’ve struck with her parents to get herself out of this one, but Viktor was happy for her nonetheless. Gabriella deserved all the happiness in this world, she was a special girl, she’d managed to get and hold his attention throughout the assignment they’d had together, and that was saying a lot. He normally didn’t feel like working with partners in the first place, which meant that he would be sullen and sulky all the time through the assignment, but with Bri, things had definitely turned for the better. He’d actually remembered how to laugh now and then as well, and that was definitely saying something. Viktor hardly ever laughed for a good cause, normally he just pretended he was Hannibal and laughed at the expense of others, rarely about himself. With her though, it seemed as though any joke she made, even if about him, would make him at least smile if nothing else. She seemed to be able to bring out the best of him right now, which was definitely more than a lot of other people could say on the matter. Viktor was a peculiar type of guy, he was normally pretty reserved and quiet, standing in the background, but faced with a room full of their peers during this little experiment they’d had going? Well, he’d felt like he needed to up his game, because no one had anticipated such a direct, frontal attack that had basically swept through anything else the other teams had prepared, and Bri had just added to their victory by the finesse she brought to it all. It seemed as though Viktor had been the more destructive force between the two of them, and then Bri would come in with a friendly smile and laughing eyes, but instead of offering help, like she looked like she could, she simply brought out a sweep and made sure everything was tidy and spotless after his destruction, but also settled so that they were the ones reaping the benefits. It had been exhilarating.
It felt good to be on the dancefloor with Bri right now; she looked like she could use some more excitement than this pretty low-key restaurant and very proper surroundings, but then again this was their reward, though no one had said they couldn’t go elsewhere after dinner. After all, the night was young, and so were they. Besides, it was obvious that they both felt like they could take over the world right now. Turning to the music with her in his arms was opening up new horizons for Viktor though, especially with how happy she looked and how amazing her smile was. She’d never smiled this much before, and he was completely mesmerized by it. There was absolutely no way that he’d be able to look away from her, even if a supermodel had walked right by them and tried getting his attention. Bri had that undivided tonight, and there was nothing that could change that fact. It was actually a pretty scary thought, come to think of it. He sighed when she jumped at him for telling her she could’ve done it on her own as well and decided this was probably one battle he didn’t want to fight, not with her. Besides ... it felt oddly good to know she felt this way. Viktor didn’t usually offer help to many people, or was successful with it, so this was all new to him, too. Alright, I won’t, he told her with a smile, before shrugging his shoulders a little bit under her hands, well ... anyone sane and normal would’ve been completely on your side. It’s not like you were the one to blame about anything at all. I’m just glad it’s over. His smile turned a little bit impish, but it was still the happiest of his smiles, And well, for what it’s worth, you’re welcome. I’d do it again. He meant it; there was no way that he would have been on Vivien’s or Dante’s side of things. Honestly, how hard was it to TALK things out? Viktor knew that if he had been in the same position, he would have said something, regardless of anything else, even personal feelings. That was just the proper thing to do before it all blew in your face. They danced onwards, and at her observation, he had to smile again – sheepish this time. It’s hard to be my usual sulky self when you’re practically bouncing with energy and excitement in my arms, he told her, his smile brightening at the words, honestly Bri, you could probably light up the whole room right now if you wanted to. I’m pretty much happy you haven’t decided to find a better date tonight. At her comment about her heart, his smile was soft and he just nodded in response to her words. Yes, he could feel it. It was pretty obvious, given how close they were. But for once in his life, Viktor didn’t care about the possibility of this ending up on the gossip blog. His attention was caught by their waiter, and Viktor nodded, before stopping them and turning them off the dance floor back towards their table, his hand keeping a firm hold on Bri’s. He held her chair out fo her with a small smile. Dinner of champions, he commented teasingly as the waiter left them to their own devices, and he sat down again.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside Well, wasn't this fun? The champagne must have really gone to her head, because Bri didn't feel the least bit uncomfortable with her best friend having his arms wrapped around her. The fact that they were resting on her lower back? Didn't even register. The warmth of Victor's body was overwhelmingly wonderful. Gabriella didn’t have a clue how captivating her features became when she was glowing with happiness, as she was now. It was difficult to guess how long her giddiness would last, but even after receiving Kalli as a birthday gift she hadn’t felt quite like this. Her high was probably going to last a week at least and then there would be a little stab of happiness every time she remembered how completely and utterly free she was now, even if it was still partially an illusion. Besides, she had plenty of time to speak to her parents about the matter, and now that Victor had taught her how to be a fearless negotiator Bri knew she stood a much better chance of succeeding.
Ironically, her parents had come to the conclusion that despite his quietly spoken opinions and -sometimes- his lack of effort when it came to being social, Victor was a good influence on her. At the very least they were aware of how he wasn't afraid to tell her like it was, and how he'd helped her through the Dante/Vivien fiasco. Gabriella hadn’t really thought about it before, but as her eyes roamed over his broad shoulders and up to his angular chin, it occurred to her that introducing him to her parents might be a good idea. After all, Victor was an important part of her life; she wasn’t sure he realized just how important. Arranging a casual meeting between him and her parents might be a good, expectation-less way of showing him that; of showing all of them that. The kiss he’d placed on her cheek was simple proof of how close the two of them had become. Such a gesture was highly uncharacteristic of Victor, but there was no use pretending; she’d fully enjoyed the feel of his lips on her cheek. And at this point at least they knew each other good enough to know their boundaries. Victor didn’t bother arguing with her; though for a second there he’d appeared to be considering it. His blue grey eyes had been piercing, considering just how serious her conviction had been. Smiling gently, Bri decided to drop the matter and say nothing more about it for now. The fact that he’d immediately said he’d do it again without hesitation gave the princess a warm feeling inside, like melted butter or something. She hadn’t been aware of how flattering and charming Victor was capable of being until tonight, so she pretended to be offended before laughing. “I thought I was lighting up the whole room!" They shared a quiet laugh together, and given how close their heads were to each other it meant they were sharing some of the same air. The way Victor’s chest rumbled under her hands was somehow very attractive to her.
As they travelled back to their table, Bri gave him a sarcastic, ‘are you serious?’ look. “Why the bloody hell would I want another date?" she asked, genuinely confused. “We won fair and square, and I don’t know about you, but for one could use a night off with my best mate." Gabriella meant the best mate in the loosest sense since most people didn’t feel the need to lean across the table and give their best mate a kiss over the salad bowl. Yes, for some reason she felt the need to test the waters, but she worried that it was only her newfound freedom making her feel this way. Perhaps it was because she hadn’t been allowed to do more than look at a boy for the past year, and now her hormones had taken the opportunity to riot out of control? In any case, her champagne was going to remain mostly untouched for the evening because being tipsy wasn’t going to do her self-control any favours. “I’ll say," she said with an easy smile. “We definitely earned this one." After taking a few bites of her fish –delicious- Bri brushed her hair back over her shoulder and swallowed. “Thanks for covering for me on the taxing of third world countries section. I totally spaced, it was like the words just flew from my mind." For a second the only sound was the gentle buzz of conversation from tables nearby and the sound of silverware against their plates. “So are you looking forward to the summer?" She half wanted to ask if he was planning on visiting her, but that wouldn’t have been polite and her parents wouldn’t have approved. So, Bri continued eating and, momentarily forgetting her decision not to drink more champagne, ended up finishing another glass between bites of steamy vegetables and fish.

He would have had to be blind not to see the way she glowed from this news. It was obvious to everyone around them, and despite the fact that she was wearing black tonight, she was still the girl that shone out the most among everyone else. Viktor really did appreciate the fact that he got to call her his best friend, if not the best friend he ever had. He couldn’t actually remember if he’d ever felt this close to anyone else outside his family circle. Probably not. It seemed highly unlikely, given his antisocial behaviour, and even an outing like this was entirely uncharacteristic of him. This just wasn’t something he did, and while he was pretty sure he should be doing it more, there was no doubt in his mind that he wasn’t missing out on anything in particular. The fact that there would quite possibly be a few questions raised if any pictures got released on the gossip blog didn’t even register in his mind right now. Viktor was off in his own little world, a world where he and Bri were just having the time of their lives and enjoying each other’s company, while also making sure that they celebrated their previous victory in the classroom. That was sure going to continue on glowing in his mind for a while yet, but it was pushed to the side by the more eminent glow of the fact that Bri was no a free woman. An actually free woman. That meant that she was basically at liberty to do as she pleased, to be with whoever she wanted. Viktor would lie if he said it didn’t mean anything to him.
Her smile was enchanting, he decided as he danced with her, the feel of her hands on his chest something he’d never experienced before. It was interesting, to say the least, and what was even better was the fact that he liked the feeling. At her laugh and tease, he had to laugh with her, and he looked down, thoroughly amused and also impressed that she caught him on such a funny thing, given he’d said something quite the opposite not five minutes ago. Guess I’m caught by the better negotiator, he replied in a tease finally, smiling in her direction before turning her under his arm once, slowly. Leading her back to the table, Viktor arched an eyebrow and looked back at Bri with a questioning expression, replying to her ‘are you kidding’ look with a ‘isn’t it obvious’ look. They were becoming good at look contests, to say the least. Well, how about we start with the obvious and say that, even if I was your team partner, I’m not the most social butterfly out there, he replied once they were sitting again and facing each other across the table. The dinner before them smelled delicious and he wondered how on Earth the school could afford such lavish outings. Well, apparently they didn’t happen quite so often, and donations and scholarships were actually a common practice, so he wouldn’t delve into that one. His meal was definitely cooked to perfection, and he sighed softly in appreciation. He’d have come here sooner if he’d known they were this good food-wise. There was no one and nothing stopping him from doing so from now on, but he sort of had the feeling that the place wouldn’t be the same without a certain person for company. Alright, we deserved it, fair and square, he commented with a gentle smile, lifting his glass of champagne towards her before taking a sip and returning to his meal. Her thank you had him waving a hand absent-mindedly, That’s what partnerships are for. It wasn’t a really tricky part anyway, it was just worder weirdly in our notes, so I guess that threw you off ... might’ve been my handwriting too. His eyes sparkled impishly. Then again, you saved me from doing collateral damage when it came to Middle East relations, so I owe you a huge thanks for that one. That question felt like a literal slap in the face. But he could still smugly remember the look on certain peoplpe’s faces when Bri had calmly taken over and sailed through as smoothly as a ship on a sunny day at sea. She was a born negotiator for that. After a couple of bites, and only the murmur of muted conversations around them, she asked another question, and Viktor lifted his shoulders in a shrug, Can’t say yet. It all depends on whether or not my father’ll want me to continue at the university at home, or if he’ll allow me to stay in America longer. Regardless of that he’s sending me on a tour of countries in Northern Europe for a string of events connected with the hundred years’ anniversary of a famous architect’s death; he drew the palace in Bratislava and was also famous for his work elsewhere north of the country. In the process, I also happen to know there’ll be a museum exhibition in London at that time ... so if you see a familiar face on Oxford Street in the middle of July ... He left his sentence hanging, a half-smile on his face as he waited for her response.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside The dancing had been wonderful, but Gabriella's stomach was telling her that it was time to eat. If she didn't get some food into it soon, the noises it was making would only grow louder until other people could hear them too. Luckily the waiter had waved them back over before it got to that point, and this time it was Bri's turn to allow herself to be dragged along, an amused expression playing itself out on her face. Their battle of looks lasted the walk back to the table, and she found it entertaining, even though she still didn't understand what exactly he'd meant by his comments. There wasn't anyone else she wanted to be here with; was it Victor who'd perhaps wished she was someone else? For reasons unknown to her the thought sat uncomfortably in Gabriella's stomach.
Victor was quite the gentleman, and not in the same way as most of the other Vineheart boys. Most of them would hold open doors, pull out a girls chair and pretend to be charming because they were trying to get some action. For her best friend it almost seemed like an afterthought, as if he did those things automatically and because he liked to rather than because he had an agenda. Even his self depreciating sense of humor was wonderful, and the easygoing way they were able to tease each other was something Gabriella enjoyed immensely. "I just so happen to like you as you are, thank you very much," she stated with a smile, reaching across the table for his hand. Giving it a reassuring squeeze was a comfortable gesture between the two of them, so that's what Gabriella did. "And as far as butterflies go, I think you're pretty brilliant." ." For a second they both stayed just like that, and the noise from the rest of the restaurant seemed to fade into nothing around them.
Gabriella loved that he made excuses for her unperfect behaviour, even when she didn't deserve them. She did her best to keep the pang of guilt she felt off her face, and masked it by joking back about his handwriting. "Well your handwriting is pretty terrible." It was great that the two of them could banter back and forth like they were without anyone taking offense or getting their feelings hurt. It made Bri wonder what made the Slovakian prince behave so differently around her than the rest of her peers. After eating another forkful of fish she had another sip of champagne, the drink just beginning to lend a buzz to her head. "Don't worry about it. Like you said, what are partnerships for?" A huge grin split her face as she ate another bite and drank some more champage, the waiter refilling her glass as she finished it.
When talk turned to plans for the summer, Gabriella was at quite a loss for how to react to Victor's options. The thought of him going to university in his home country was upsetting, and she'd sorely miss him when he was gone. If they both remained in the states for the rest of their schooling it meant that she'd get to see him more often. And that was definitely a priority for her, so it seemed important that he know about this. But because she wanted him to be happy, all Gabriella did was offer a small smile and say, "Isn't that sort of your choice? I thought your dad was all about letting you make your own decisions about things." By 'things' what she meant was marriage, among others. There had been so many times she'd wanted his parents... well, parent since his mother had died. At the mention of her home city, Gabriella's expression picked up considerably. At least she'd be guaranteed a visit during the summer, right? "As if I'd let you get away with just that Vik! You'll be staying with me at my house of course." She was sure her mother would be over the moon about a prince -much less the crown prince of Slovakia- staying with them in the palace because he wanted to see her 'wild child' daughter. "I'm really happy we'll get to see each other over the summer, two months would feel so long otherwise." The fork settled on her plate as she realized that during their conversation both of them had finished their meals. Apparently she'd finished another glass of champagne in her excitement, as shown by the light buzzing in her head.

It was a good thing that they’d eventually ended up as partners on the project, because Viktor couldn’t imagine being paired with anyone else. Bri was funny, and smart, well intelligent was the better word, she was quick on her feet and with her thoughts, and she was a worthy partner. If her twin sister ever did manage to get herself out of the mess she’d tangled herself into, then handing the throne over to her younger twin would definitely be the way go, but Viktor was in no mood to think about that right now. Tonight wasn’t a night to worry about big future plans, but it was a celebration that would probably leave at least one of them light-headed, if not both, but because he was the driver tonight, having taken his own car here, he was pretty sure he’d watch over the amount of alcohol imbedded in his system. He didn’t need to crash the car with himself AND Bri in it, and it certainly wasn’t something that he’d call a past time. He would just need to be careful whenever their server came around to pour them a glass again, because the one thing that Viktor was pretty strict with himself about was drinking when he was driving. One glass or two was enough, especially if he was eating, if they hadn’t been then he wouldn’t have even thought about putting any kind of alcohol into himself. There were certain rules in his own mind, and unlike Dante, who seemed to be going up and down with drugs of his choice, Viktor certainly wasn’t one to sit behind the wheel when he wasn’t feeling a hundred percent sure that he’d be able to face anything that came at him on the road and any situation he’d find himself in that way. With Bri in the passenger seat, he’d just take double precautions and make sure she was fine, just because.
His smile was calm and kind when she reached over to take his hand, and Viktor returned the squeeze to her fingers gently. Thank you – and most people wouldn’t agree, but then most people don’t know me like you do, he replied with the smile still in place. She was the only one, probably, who could honestly say that she knew him better than the average person in their year. There was just something about her that made him incapable to hold the walls he’d so carefully constructed around himself. It was beyond impossible. He burst out into quiet laughter when she made fun of his handwriting. With anyone else he would have stormed off by now, but Bri was just being funny, and they’d talked about this before, when they’d been working on the project together. Viktor and handwriting wasn’t really the best of ideas, which was why Bri had done all the notes that needed to be penned out, while he had don the typing on the computer and making sure everything was organized there. Which reminded him. By the way, you need to bring me a USB or something so I can give you everything from the project from my computer, I found some other stuff that I added in the last minute, which I don’t think you have, and the files aren’t small enough to send them to you by mail. It would be easier with a portable device anyway, and he was sure it would also be a good excuse to see her again. Cue killing two birds with one stone. When topic turned to the future and universities, Viktor shrugged his shoulders, It is, and he is letting me choose, to a degree, but because he’s rulling alone, I think he wants me closer to him ... I don’t know, we haven’t actually talked about this yet. Either way, I’m not keen on making the decision tonight, and I’ll weigh all my options once I finally have to make it regardless. His grey eyes met her own darker ones across the table, wondering whethere there was more behind her question or not. Maybe it was just a hunch. Do you have any idea where you want to go next? If he knew some of her wishes, he’d be better able to coordinate his own really. Viktor didn’t want to be parted from Bri just like that. He laughed easily when her expression brightened and she seemed pretty enthusiastic about the idea of him in London. Alright, your house it is – are any of your siblings living with you, or is it just you? He was innocently curious, but he didn’t think he’d survive with Vivien under the same roof. It was just a precaution. The server came around, but Viktor put his hand over his glass without even taking his eyes off Bri, and he was spared another glass o champagne. Instead, he picked water this time around. He’d already had a martini earlier, and though the food was doing wonders, he was taking no chances. You’re making a point there, but I would’ve probably flown to England regardless, he told her with a smile, finishing his own meal without even knowing it, or I would’ve invited you over to Bratislava, to spend some time with me at my home. Have you ever been to Slovakia? The thought of her being there with him made him smile, and he was definitely up for that.

The light buzzy feeling in her head felt good anyway, so why stop? After having another sip and taking a few more bites of her delicious meal, Gabriella's brown eyes were finally able to focus on Victor again, waving a hand at him. "It's alright, it's pretty fun having people ask why I like you so much." Her bell-like laugh rang out quietly, because at the moment she wasn't embarrassed in the least with her admission. Then she was distracted by him asking for a USB drive from her, and she quietly reached across the table to pat Victor's hand. "Of course. No more school talk tonight though, this is supposed to be fun!" Her dinner was almost completely finished at this point, so she slowed down to savour the last few bites.
The question about her future school wasn't surprising and she already had an answer ready for him, simply because she'd been asked so many times by the high society members in England. "Actually, I have a couple. I'm thinking Yale for Political Science or Environmental Studies." Just like that she'd dropped a bombshell. Victor didn't know it, but he was the first one she'd told about this plan. The high society members had been easy enough to brush off with a vague 'I'm still considering all of my options' , but Gabriella had really wanted to tell Victor what her actual plan was. Her marks had been stellar this year and with her royal pedigree getting in wasn't a huge concern for her. Talking about school was boring though, aside from the fact that after Vineheart she might only see her best friend once or twice a year. It was a depressing thought and one that was currently ruining her mood.
Victor asked if she lived alone or with her siblings, and Gabriella's grin grew wider. Was he intimidated by her family, or was it something else that had made him ask the question? "Well it's the palace, so yes everyone lives there, but we have an estate in the country where we could go for a couple of weeks. No one would bother us, and it's quite beautiful in the summer." Her dark eyes looked earnestly at him across the table. They could go swimming or boating in the pond -despite the fact that Gabriella was terrified of deep water- or ride horses across the grounds. The massive, seemingly endless gardens were wonderful for taking leisurely walks, and there were nearly endless activities for the two of them in the nearby village. The idea of spending so much time with Victor made her really happy and for the first time Bri was actually excited for the end of the school year.
At the mention of his home, Gabriella found her interest aroused. Visiting Victor in his home country was definitely on her agenda for the summer now. She wanted to see how he behaved in such a familiar environment, and was more than a little curious to meet the current King of Slovakia. Gabriella wanted to know if Victor's father was like him, and it would be a good opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties. Even the smaller countries in Europe had some influence, especially when they banded together on something against the more powerful countries. It would be smart for England to have friends among the less powerful as well as the wealthy countries. "I would have said yes, if you'd invited me. I'm curious to know more about your home country." Was it terrible that Slovakia was never one of the ones mentioned in any of Vivien's lessons? For the entire time when Gabriella had eavesdropped on her twin's private lessons, Viv's tutors had focused mainly on the major players in international politics. It made sense diplomatically, but also left Bri at a distinct disadvantage when Victor seemed to know something of her own country and she knew next to nothing about his.
She glanced at his plate and noticed that they were both finished. Speaking for herself, Gabriella was completely full and her head was buzzing at a slightly higher volume than before she'd had that final glass. With uncanny timing, their waiter returned, collected their plates and asked if they wanted dessert. Bri looked askance at Victor when the man suggested the chocolate soufflé. "Did you want to split dessert? I don't think I can finish one on my own." She smiled regretfully at the man and then more sweetly across the table at her partner. Truth be told, Gabriella wasn't eager at all for this dinner to be over.
