His smile was popping up all the time tonight, and yet Viktor was enjoying it, he was enjoying the company and the conversation. The scenery wasn’t something he’d have expected, but it definitely topped some other locations he could think of, so he was glad that their teacher had chosen to pick this for the reward. It was much better than anything else really. Oh, so people want to know why you hang out with someone who isn’t as socially forward as others, huh? he replied with a teasing expression on his face as she laughed, enjoying in the sound of that. She was definitely in a good mood tonight, and now that he could see her without the additional burden of an unwanted engagement tied down with a scandal, Viktor could definitely appreciate the finer aspects of his friendship with Gabriella. He flashed her a grin and then made a zipping motion across his lips to indicate he wasn’t about to talk about school stuff anymore unless she allowed him to do so. He was feeling like such a kid from time to time, and it only became more pronounced whenever he was around people who didn’t care whether he was serious all the time, and actually wanted some variety. Like Bri. His question about her future school plans was answered though, and Viktor was impressed. Now that’s definitely something to look forward to, he agreed, and you’ll excel in whichever major you pick, Bri. Now you’ve made me want to reconsider and see if I can persuade my father to let me stay in the States for university studies. But then it was no secret that Viktor wanted to spend more time with Bri right now, and it would probably be obvious to her as well. It wasn’t like there was much to lie about there after all.
He did have to laugh when she pointed out the obvious about the palace, Oh, right. Sorry, but in some countries I know of, when there’re more kids, they live in their own town house, like a formal residence, while their parents as rulers live in the palace. That’s why I asked. But the country estate sounds like something I’d definitely want to see. After you spring me from having to attend presentational events, we can hide out there for a while. He was definitely looking forward to that now, if it were to come to pass. Viktor wasn’t much of a city person himself, unless it was Bratislava, because let’s face it, he loved his home town. He was also slightly partial to London, but mostly about the old town, not the newest additions, and he would gladly just ignore the lot if it meant he got to spend time with Bri, alone, away from unwanted attention and her parents, if possible. Viktor was kind of intimidated by them, and he didn’t want to think that they’d been the ones to push for the wedding between her and Dante. His attention shifted to his home country at her answer, and he smiled a slow smile, Well, I’m asking you now. I take it the answer’s still yes? The prospect of having her close to him over the summer was definitely one to look forward to, and Viktor would do all he could to show her that despite being one of the smaller countries, Slovakia was by no means behind on anything. It was actually advancing pretty well and pretty fast right now, and he was naturally proud of it, except that he didn’t show it most of the time. It was his nature not to be too openly enthusiastic about things. We could explore the old city center, you’d love it there, among other places; there’re no cars allowed, and most of it has just been rebuilt in the original style, so it’s safe and clean. He loved exploring little alleys and shops hidden in nooks and corners. He sat back after he was finished with his meal and sighed in content, nodding to the waiter who came to collect their plates, and looking at Bri, Viktor smiled ruefully, I can’t eat any more either. How about we call it a night in here and go walk off some of your champagne? He wasn’t hurrying for this to be over, but he did think that fresh air would do them both good, and besides, it wasn’t freezing outside so there would be no problems there. Even though it was just the beginning of second term, the winter was milder at this point so there was no real worry that anything would go wrong. Besides, he preferred the thought of spending some more time with Bri that didn’t include returning to school right away.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside What a lovely restaurant. What a lovely night out. And what lovely company. Gabriella's thoughts buzzed pleasantly as they finished their meal. "Well actually I think they're more curious to know what someone like you sees in me," she laughed. Given how few people the Slovakian prince socialized, it was no wonder their peers were so completely dumbfounded. If it hadn't been for the project, Bri doubted they ever would have spoken to each other. She was glad they had though, because it would have been a shame to have missed out on getting to know someone so interesting and wonderful. She gave a little giggle at Victor's zipped lips motion, wondering how she could have missed fully appreciating his sense of humor until tonight.
School was the last thing she wanted to talk about tonight, but since he was so curious she humoured him. "You have far too much faith in my abilities I think. I really hope he reconsiders. It would be quite lovely to get to see you more often than a few times a year after we graduate." The thought that Victor was reconsidering just for her was beyond flattering, and for some reason it made her insides quivery and jumpy. It was probably the champagne, and Gabriella was vaguely glad she'd finished her third glass, even if it was making her feel... less inhibited than she usually was. The best part was that the fluttery feelings didn't bring on a wave of guilt like they would have a few weeks ago. She was a free woman and planning to live like one! Speaking of which, had the two of them just agreed to basically spend the summer visiting each other's countries? The only friend Gabriella had ever really invited for a visit was Nada, and that was only because the Serbian was friends with both Bri and Vivien. When one of them wasn't free the other one was bound to be, so each of them got quality time with her. Just for Victor though, Bri fully intended to clear her schedule for a couple of weeks. "I'm definitely a professional when it comes to hiding out, so you're absolutely welcome. And I would love to visit you." she said sincerely. Her smile radiated across the table at him, oblivious to the waiter currently clearing their dishes.
Despite being a teensy bit disappointed by Victor's lack of enthusiasm for the chocolate mousse, Bri wasn't even really upset. Dessert was so tempting, but if she was still craving chocolate later there was always the dining hall. And at this point she had a hunch that if she ate another bite of food she would end up throwing up in the ladies room. Not classy or attractive. Best to avoid that situation altogether. So she gave the waiter a small apologetic smile and nodded her agreement. "Sure, a walk sounds brill right now." Their teacher had already arranged the bill payment, the waiter informed them before wishing them a lovely evening. On the way out the door one of the hostesses inquired if they needed a cab, obviously realizing who they were, but the pair declined a ride. After all, Victor had mentioned having a car, and Gabriella wanted to take a little walk. Maybe the chill would help clear the buzzing in her head. Her hands were quick to button her coat, because despite the milder weather it was still chilly outside.
Bri shivered, glad she hadn't left her coat in her car. In her haste to get to the restaurant it had almost been forgotten on the front passenger seat. It would have been quite a shame, especially after the full twenty minutes she'd spent debating between three of her favourite coats while preparing for dinner. Honestly, after riding in a cab the rest of the ride and then rushing into the restaurant, Gabriella hadn't even noticed the freezing weather outside. She sure noticed it now though, and the snowy side walks weren't going to be easygoing in her current footwear. "It's quite beautiful, isn't it?" she asked, glancing sideways and up at Victor. While her hands had been shoved into her pockets for a few seconds, the snow required balance Gabriella was currently lacking, and without really thinking about it her arm linked through Victors. "Sorry, my balance leaves something to be desired at the moment I'm afraid." The icy concrete made for treacherous footing, so she leaned -just a little- on him. Her free hand went over her mouth a little as she giggled. Later she'd probably think her own behaviour ridiculous, but right now she was still on cloud nine. The town was like something out of a Christmas card, with snow covered rooftops and Christmas lights still up everywhere, and she was in quite good company.

Viktor arched an eyebrow at her responding comment, and shook his head. That question was easy to answer, but he had a feeling that the second-born twin of the English princesses didn’t see herself clearly at all right now, or ever. It was one of the things that actually drew him closer to her all the time, though, the fact that she didn’t use her looks or her title to her advantage when she was with him. Maybe it was because he was a Crown Prince himself, he would never know, but he sort of got the feeling that Bri really didn’t think much of herself due to the fact that Vivien had taken all that glory and had been groomed to become a Queen someday. Which was a tiny bit archaic in his personal mind, his father had raised both his sons to become rulers some day, unless of course Viktor decided to bring a bride home to his court and would in the end stay in Slovakia, but things could change in an instant, and he knew it well. He could fall for someone who would be unable to abdicate the throne and then he would abdicate without a second thought. He wasn’t one of those people who didn’t know what they wanted, or didn’t want to do everything to get it. He knew, and he would definitely make sure that he did all he could. I think I’m going to have to work on your perception of yourself eventually, he countered with a smile on his lips as he lifted the glass of water that had been sitting to the side back to his lips, you clearly don’t see yourself well enough at all. Trust me, no one’s wondering about what you just said tonight. The water soothed his sudden thirst for the time being, but he was sure that he’d need some more eventually, for now though, he was more interested in keeping Bri good company and not having her think he was ignoring her or anything of the like.
Who knows, maybe you have to little faith, he teased her in return, then shrugged his shoulders, we haven’t quite talked about it yet, but I have a feeling we will come March. That’s usually when you need to start applying anyway, which means that my dad’s probably going to want to know what my plans are. I know what you mean though; seeing you only a couple of times a year after graduation’ll just be ... well, not good. It would actually be a disaster, given that he felt like she was his only actual friend. Sure his cousins were there for him, but that didn’t count as much as the people who weren’t related to him by blood and actually thought that he was worth spending time with. Vivien was doing well enough, but if truth be told, Viktor was probably one of the few people currently at Vineheart who would take Bri’s company over her twin’s any day of the week. Thinking about possibly hiding out with Bri at the English countryside was definitely making him smile now. I’d love that, actually, so be prepared; after I’m done in London, I’m going to ancitipate a hideout. He grinned across the table at her when she smiled radiantly and promised to visit him. I’ll make sure to show you one of my favourite spots too. Hopefully, you’ll like it. It had actually been his mother’s, but she’d taken both her sons there occasionally when she thought they needed a breather, and so he had remembered it and stored it in the back of his mind for later usage. When Bri came to Slovakia, he was pretty sure they’d be ablt to explore a little bit. His attention shifted to the waiter as he told them about the payment being already settled, and Viktor smiled as he stood, thanking the man and making sure he had everything while waiting for Bri; the waiter was obviously a little bit smitten over her, given the way he held her chair out and all, but Viktor wanted to laugh, since Bri seemed a bit too far gone with the champagne to notice. Taking his coat and making sure to button it up against the weather, he politely declined the offer for a cab, feeling for his car keys in the pocket and sighing in satisfaction once he found them there. After the walk, he was sure a warm car interior would definitely work to their advantage. He pulled the collar of his coat up so that it covered the back of his neck and the sides, and grinned down at Bri once he took in the scenery. It is; I kind of have a feeling Rudolph’s gonna gome prancing out from some snow drift soon. He smiled when she linked her arm through his, and then laughed when she leaned on him; Viktor freed his arm so he could slip it around her waist, giving her more support that way. How’s that for balance help? he teased her, his grey eyes warm as he looked down at her and kept her neatly tucked into his side, both out of fear of her actually sliding on the ice and falling, and also because it felt ... good. Surprisingly so.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside Everything had changed so much in the past few weeks that it was like she was a different person living a different life now. The jealousy and envy she’d felt over Vivien always being the more important one –well, she was going to be Queen after all- had disappeared, leaving Gabriella much more content with the way her life was right now. She didn’t really want anything to change, especially the way things were going to after they graduated. Not seeing her best friend was going to be beyond difficult, and even with all of the technology they had now it still wasn’t the same as seeing the person face-to-face. Skype could only do so much for a person after all. Victor clearly had no idea how the other students saw him, or he would have realized exactly what she’d meant by what she said. It hadn’t been a put down of herself, not really but rather the fact that he was so interesting compared to her. Wedding and engagement and cheating drama aside, Gabriella considered herself a relatively average person… for a princess. Some of their classmates probably wondered what she saw in Victor, but she could have given them a list ten miles long as to why she liked him so much. He was charming, handsome, very, very smart and when he cared about a person it meant something. He wasn’t a fair-weather friend who abandoned ship at the first sign of a storm, and she liked the way he spoke his mind without worrying about how others would take his opinion. Above all else, he was honest and sincere.
She could understand why the king would want him close by, especially if Victor was to be taking his father’s place in the near future. Family was important to everyone –albeit for different reasons- but the thought of not getting to really see him anymore was surprisingly upsetting. Gabriella had always thought of herself as quite independent, but she’d grown rather attached to Victor and really enjoyed spending time with him. For him to be so far away would be… difficult to deal with. "Maybe you’re right. After all, nothing’s decided yet," she said with a grin, unwilling to let this be a total downer on her mood. Nothing was decided for sure, so there was no sense in worrying about what might or might not happen in the future, and especially on a night so wonderful. Her smile went crooked at the thought of him being in England with his Slovakian accent. There wasn’t a doubt in her mind that he’d be able to tackle whatever diplomatic duties his father sent him with. During their project Bri had been able to see his quiet sureness turn into the kind of confidence that lit up a room. Victor could be so captivatingly charismatic when he wanted to, like he was two people at once. There was the quieter Victor that their classmates wrongly perceived as arrogant, and then there was the Victor who was brimming with confidence, the future king. "Do I get a clue as to what this secret favourite spot is, or is it supposed to be a surprise?" Her head tilted flirtatiously and she lowered her eyelashes the way her mother had taught her a year ago. It was from one of those stupid lessons on how to keep your husband happy and interested, and for some reason Bri found herself doing it now.
Watching how polite and friendly Victor was with the waiter made Gabriella realize yet again how down to earth and un-snobby he really was. It didn’t matter to either of them whether someone was a servant or a future king because you were supposed to be courteous to everyone, regardless of rank. She hoped that it hadn’t just been his mother who’d taught him that. For some reason she really wanted the King of Slovakia to like her; so much so that she had already been considering asking her mother to plan the outfit for when she first met Victor’s dad. The waiter waved them off cheerily and the pair of them moved out of doors, with Bri quickly using him for balance. "I know what you mean. It’s like something off of a Christmas card." She giggled at the thought of a reindeer just popping out of a snow bank in front of them and imagined that if it were to happen there would be singing and dancing involved. At least she and Victor were set with the dancing part, but as for the singing… not so much. When his arm slipped out of hers Bri was ready to launch a protest but his hand never left contact with her body as it snaked its way around her waist, drawing her tighter. Oh boy. Victor was close now, very close indeed. "That’s… much better, thank you," was all she could manage with her voice coming out surprisingly breathy sounding. Her left foot slipped a little on the ice beneath their feet, but his grip on her –and her grip on him- prevented her from doing anything more than sliding into him a little more. "Bloody shoes," she mumbled to herself, giggling again at how idiotically British sounding she was being right now. Yes, the buzzy feeling hadn’t dimmed in the slightest in the cold and Victors proximity seemed to –if anything- exacerbate the fluttery feelings bouncing around inside her. He was so warm and lovely looking with the snow falling softly on his dark hair as she looked up at him and smiled. Gabriella normally wasn't the biggest fan of winter but something told her she'd be changing her mind after tonight.

He wasn’t really aware of how high she placed him on her list, and what qualities she assigned to him, because if he HAD been, then he would’ve probably contradicted her at one point or another. There was just no way that Viktor could see himself in the same light as Bri saw him right now, though he would have been pretty flattered and humbled by her opinion of him. He just did what he thought was right, regardless of what anyone else said on the matter, and that seemed to be enough for some to basically ignore him, something he preferred to having to deal with them and just make it all a living nuisance. As for Bri, however, she was probably one of the most interesting princesses at school, to him right now at least. And he didn’t see it changing any time soon really. There was a time and place for everything, but admiring the girl who he considered to be his closest friend was at the top of every possible list he could think of. There was just something about her that drew him in, and he wasn’t exactly sure what that was, whether it was her smile, her way of dealing with problems, or the fact that she honestly didn’t want any drama to happen to her more than it already had. Viktor found himself wishing to be able to secure the knowledge that he would try and protect her from anything else that came her way of that sort, especially since he kind of felt like he needed to, not that she’d explicitly need it. She was one of the strongest people he knew, if not the strongest in the long run, and he was going to make sure she stayed like that, no questions asked. Yes, he cared about her a great deal, but wasn’t it the same with every single one of best friend tandems? He wouldn’t know though, but he was willing to bet it was so.
He gave her his trademark grin when she agreed with him, and lightly rolled his eyes at her in a playful manner, Of course I’m right. Remember who you’re talking to? But he was obviously teasing her, it was in the way he spoke, and the way he looked at her from their current position, and he was enjoying himself as well. Speaking to Bri was like a breath of fresh air, he didn’t have to make himself anything he wasn’t, and she accepted him exactly as he was. That was enough for him, and Viktor would remain her friend so long as she did that. The moment he would have to be someone he wasn’t, was when everything would change, not that he anticipated anything of the sort. Besides, once I do have to make a decision, you never know what I’ll choose, and I’m always open to persuasion, you know, he pointed out with a small smile of his own while he was at it, looking at her over the rim of his glass as he leaned back in his chair at that. He didn’t know why he’d just said it, given that his father would kind of have a major say in it all, but he also knew that the King would understand if his son had a different opinion and wanted something else. Unless absolutely necessary, the Slovakian King didn’t force his sons into anything, as he preferred them being on amiable terms throughout. Her reaction to what he said was definitely pleasing, and Viktor felt the smile return, the one that quirked only one side of his lips up, and he leaned closer across the table towards her momentarily. I think I’ll keep it a secret ... for now, he replied with an amused expression sparkling in his eyes, but like I said before – I’m thoroughly open for persuasion. His lips quivered with barely-contained amusemed, but he was definitely enjoying this Bri that was sitting across from him right now. The looks she was throwing him were making him definitely want to see more of that. Their waiter broke through their little bubble but Viktor smiled and waved right back before they exited the restaurant, and he inhaled sharply as the cold air hit his face. It was refreshing. He smiled down at Bri when she giggled and agreed with him, grinning a bit more at the thought that she was so happy right now, because it was making HIM happy in return, and that was certainly good. His arm was around her waist, securely now, and so when her foot slipped, he was able to catch her without much trouble at all, bringing her even closer to him as he stopped so she’d regain her footing without him dragging her after the both of them. You’re welcome – and don’t diss the shoes, I like them, he replied with the lopsided grin again, unable to resist smiling when she was looking up at him like that. Chuckling softly, Viktor reached up and lightly smoothed his thumb across her cheek, showing her the snowflake he’d caught off her skin as he did so, and tweaking her nose with it. Little snow princess, he murmured gently, keeping his fingers where they were against her cheek, lightly caressing the skin there.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]open your eyes and see what's outside Gabriella normally liked to think of herself as a bit of a free spirit, but in truth she'd been more grounded as of late and Victor may have been partially responsible for it. They had personalities that completely complimented each other, because he'd become a bit more carefree since meeting her as well. Their friendship had evolved easily into something that may have hinted at more, but Gabriella could have been just imagining things. As for his assertion that of course he was right, Bri merely rolled her chestnut eyes back at him with a mock exasperated expression. “Of course, how on earth could I possibly forget?” she commented sarcastically. "Try not to let it go to your head," she said, her tone joking. There weren't many people she could joke with like this without them getting offended or feelings getting hurt, but she was glad Victor was among those she could.
Persuasion? What the bloody hell was that supposed to mean? Gabriella's smile froze in place for a few long seconds while her slightly sluggish brain tried to figure out exactly what Victor meant by ‘persuasion’. Her hands busied themselves folding and re-folding her napkin, simply for something to do. Surprisingly, Bri’s mind went to the gutter first and ran through several ideas of things she could do that would be sure to persuade him –until she snapped herself out of it, reminding herself that he was her best friend. Best. Friend. Best friends were off limits because even though she was single now people as supportive and close to Gabriella were still in short supply. It wasn’t worth risking alienating him if she was wrong. And best friends weren't supposed to crush on best friends, no matter how sweet and chivalrous and honourable and handsome they were, right? The buzzing in her head was making it difficult to sort it all out.
It struck her as odd how deserted the streets were, but then again it was dinner time so everyone else was probably inside where it was warm. That is, warm-er, because Victor’s wool coat and body heat was certainly keeping her warm. The buzz was just starting to fade, slowly but surely and her body temperature was returning to normal with it. With her coat on and the warmth of the champagne in her stomach it had been impossible to be cold, and with Victor pressed against her she’d almost reached the point of overheating. Luckily she was past the peak heated temperature and was returning to a normal level now. It allowed her to focus mind better on the beautiful scenery and her pleasant companion. He saved her from her slip and commented that he liked her shoes, which made Gabriella think about when he'd been looking at them. Perhaps when they'd been dancing. Her cheeks suddenly felt hot.
And then they were facing each other and oh bloody hell his hand was on her face. Victor’s eyes were warm. God, he had eyes like honey, but with unmistakeable lethal intent in their depths. Her eyebrows drew together ever so slightly in puzzlement. Now she was sure there was something going on here, so with a nervous swallow Gabriella endeavoured to find out exactly what it was. “Victor? I-” Bri wasn’t even sure what she intended to ask him so her voice cut itself off. The English princess was certain she'd never met anyone so absolutely gracious and at ease as Victor, and she'd come up with exactly nothing in the ideas department for how to repay his friendship. It was in that moment of confusion that she glanced up and spotted a branch of mistletoe hovering directly above where they were currently standing.
Her left hand extricated itself from holding onto the Slovakian prince so that she could point up at the plant. "Look, mistletoe." It was almost like Bri was trying to change the subject, but in this case the topic change didn't help her confusion at all. The champagne still in her system wasn't helping much at all either as it was prompting her to do something, anything right now. In a rare moment of spontaneity -possibly brought on by the buzzing, lightheaded feeling she still had- Gabriella stretched up on her tiptoes and placed a soft kiss on Victors lips. They were softer than she'd expected, and as her eyes softly fluttered shut all Gabriella could think about was how well their bodies fit together, how utterly warm the prince was and how wonderful he tasted. Her own lips were gentle; tentative in brushing against his, because she wasn't sure how such an advance would be received by him. Before the kiss was over she was already craving a second taste.

He liked joking around with Bri, because she understood him and his jokes and didn’t get offended, like so many other people might have. There was just something about her that made Viktor smile even though a lot of others could have been jealous of his relationship with the English princess. As he’d stated before, there was no way that Bri was seeing herself clearly right now; she was probably still reeling from the fact that Dante always thought hr second best and all, and she’d been treated that way all her life it seemed. Viktor wanted her to feel special, wanted to make her see that she WAS special – and if joking around with her was a way to do it, then okay, he would do it, no questions asked in the process. I have no idea princess, but you better not forget another time, he teased her in a completely serious tone of voice, though his grey eyes were sparkling with the hidden mirth. It was so easy to be relaxed and carefree with her right now. Oh I won’t, trust me – and if I do, you’ll always be right there to remind me that I need to come down a notch. His expression turned triumphant, and he gave her one of those victorious smiles, which they’d shared the moment they’d won their little duelling deal during class and ended up having this dinner tonight. Viktor would definitely be thanking the professor in the end, because, looking at it from a long-term perspective, there was nothing he would have enjoyed more than he was enjoying this currently. Bri was just stunning too, and he wondered whether she was even aware of it. Probably not, though she should have been, by all means.
He liked the way she seemed to be kept on edge, the way she was playing with her napkin sort of made him think that she was either nervous, or bored out of her skull, but something told him it wasn’t exactly the latter. He was more inclined to think it was the first, though why on Earth she should feel nervous around him way beyond what he could think of. He was her best friend after all, and though he seemed to sometimes be pushing the limits, that didn’t mean that she needed to worry about things. If anything, he would be the first to jump in an defend her from whatever slander she got thrown her way in the whole case of Spain and England. But yes, oddly enough, he was actually enjoying the way she seemed to be reacting to him, not that he was entirely immune to her either. He never had been, come to think of it. She was just so ... indescribable, to him. She was funny, intelligent, beautiful. She had everything a princess needed to secure herself a husband in her own right who would want her for herself, and not for her throne or for her money, or anything of the sort. And he was pretty sure he wasn’t the only one who thought that, though he seemed to be the only one close enough to expressing it out loud in that fashion. And it still amazed him that she could have anyone she wanted and didn’t seem to realize it – but he was glad he was with her tonight, not someone else. Proof enough when he caught her as she slipped, and grinned down in her face. Her shoes really were nice, though maybe a bit impractical for the ice, but then he was here to steady her if she stumbled again, so there was no trouble with that one at all. Her eyes seemed a little bit scared though, maybe even panicked, but Viktor didn’t want her to panic. He wanted her to enjoy herself, and to realize that she had more power over him than she thought. She needed an eye-opener, but he didn’t know how to supply her with one. Her voice seemed to die out on it’s own, and Viktor couldn’t help the grin that crossed his face. What’s this, Bri? Cat got your tongue? He was only teasing her of course, as per usual. He noticed how she extracted her left hand, and followed it as she pointed up, noticing the mistletoe as well. That it is. His grey eyes turned to her own again, wondering whether she was going to extract herself, knowing what this meant in Christmas tradition, or whether she would see it through. She surprised him, of course, though in a pleasant way; her lips pressed against his, and Viktor found himself responding, more than just responding. His arms snaked around her waist into a firmer hold as the first kiss ended and another began, on his iniciative this time, firmer, stronger; he was telling her, wordlessly, that her advance wasn’t unwelcome. Her lips were even softer than he’d thought they’d be, and even if it was the champagne they’d had – who cared? If she’d listen carefully, or move her hand, Viktor had no doubt that Bri would be able to feel the way his heart was beating hard inside his chest, in exhilaration. One hand cupped her neck to keep her where she was. Best friends – or more. He could definitely agree to something more.

They took far too much personally, in Gabriella’s opinion. Oh well, it was there loss because they were missing out on having an undyingly loyal friend. Truly, Bri was really grateful she’d been given the opportunity to see past the sometimes chilly exterior of the Slovakian prince. She wondered how he was when dealing with his own people -that is, citizens from his own country- and imagined him as being nothing but kind and polite. He would be a good king, and if his father nudged him into attending a school closer to home she would miss him sorely. During the past semester Victor had become one of the princess’ dearest friends, and despite some of her other less close friends questioning that friendship Bri truly enjoyed spending time with him. He was full of opinions that let them have intelligent discussions without arguing, and unlike some of the others at their school Victor had a streak of chivalry or something that compelled him to hold the door for her and the like. Was it any wonder why he was her best friend?
And now here she was –kissing her best friend. More than that, Gabriella was enjoying kissing him, very much in fact. Despite the chill in the air and the snow on the ground, Bri’s body felt hot. Even her hands were warm, pressed between their bodies and against his chest, which was surprisingly strong and firm. She hadn’t been expecting him to pull her closer but wasn’t about to complain when he did. Bri moved closer on instinct, pressing just a little closer when Victor didn’t pull away. With her own height combined with that of her heels, she only had to lean upward a little to reach his mouth. Gabriella’s original thought was to pull away after the first kiss to see how her best friend would react after the intimate contact, but before she knew it Victor had responded by holding her in place for another. Her breath exited her body in a little huff during the millisecond their lips pulled apart and then her mouth was moving against his again and revelling in the feel of his hands holding her still. Somewhere in the back of her mind there was a rush of relief that Victor hadn’t pushed her away and Bri slid her hands up his chest and over his shoulders to wrap them around behind the boys neck. She wished his hair had been fluffy and spikey like it was ordinarily instead of gelled back because curiousity was driving her to touch it, and she didn’t want to mess with the gel. They stood entwined like that for a minute, holding and kissing each other, until a bell rang out as a door for a shop across the street was opened by a family.
The two of them separated hastily, mostly because Gabriella had temporarily forgotten that she was a free woman and was allowed to kiss whomever she wanted without getting into trouble. Oh dear, now her face really felt like it was on fire. She felt winded for some reason, perhaps because of the way her heart was galloping in her chest? Victor’s grey eyes had focused on her with an unreadable expression, which made Bri feel as if he could read her thoughts. Had she just made a huge mistake? Her dark eyes flickered between each of his while her stomach tied itself in knots and her hands slowly made their way down his arms to gently, tentatively take hold of his hands. There was only one thing on her mind –which was surprisingly almost free from champagne at this point. ”Is this… okay?” She shot him a tentative smile and turned as though to continue the direction they’d been going. If Victor wanted to talk about what had just happened he would have to do it while walking towards his car. Bri wouldn’t leave him though, so for a moment she just admired how pretty everything was while it was frosted with snow. There was definitely something between them; she realized that had been confirmed now. Her main question was what exactly that was, and she knew Victor didn’t do things halfway. He was serious about stuff like this. Unlike a certain past fiancée. No, even thoughts of Dante weren’t going to ruin her mood tonight. There was still a lot to be said between her and Victor, and she didn’t need to stress about an arranged marriage anymore. It was over and time to start something new and wonderful with someone who liked her back. Maybe even with her best friend.

Viktor didn’t really mind the way other people at Vineheart saw him. It was their problem if they couldn’t take some well-earned criticism or the fact that he was a lot more open about scandals than others were. They all seemed to talk about it in hushed voices and behind closed doors, which seemed absurd to him since most of the scandals were public secrets anyway, and people talked about them regardless. He was also pretty much more opinionated than anyone else he’d come across, unless Bri would suddenly start to exhibit the same traits. He was sure she had her own pretty vocal opinion too, but she would never actually tell it to someone’s face unless provoked, because she’d been raised differently, something he admired. The people who had initially tutored him in Slovakia had kind of given up on the fact that he was as outspoken as he was, and that meant that he had been allowed to really just develop in his own way, which had led him to be the man he was right now, and he didn’t see it actually changing any time soon. Maybe he would get a little bit mellower with age, but that didn’t necessarily mean that it would be a good thing. A lion still had claws, even if he hid them, and he was sure people would certainly forget about the fact that the future King of Slovakia had an ace or two up his sleeves when he needed to. He was very happy that Bri seemed to see past the initial walls he threw up and was able to discern that he was a nice guy underneath it all. He didn’t really want to be the antagonist half the time, but he couldn’t help himself with some of the half-wit people here at the school. He wondered whether it would ever be better.
The kiss had surprised him, obviously, he wasn’t about to deny it – but at the same time it had been exactly the kind of thing he would have expected from Bri now that she was single again, and free of Dante. Maybe he hadn’t been expecting it to happen with HIM, but he wasn’t one to complain, not when it felt so good, and not when he was all of a sudden realising that maybe it wasn’t just the fact that he wanted to be best friends with her. Sure he did, it was more than he could have asked for, but at the same time, there was the promise just behind the crack that had appeared when the door had been partly opened, and behind it was a promise of something that could potentially be very, very good. She didn’t seem to mind it when he pulled her in for another kiss, and she even pressed against him a little, something that made him smile against her lips as his hold on her tightened momentarily in appraisal, especially when her hands slipped up around his neck. She was now holding herself against him pretty effectively, and Viktor wasn’t really inclined on letting her go, which was obvious in the fact that he was still kissing her. He didn’t know whether or not she’d been kissed before – or like this. His personality prevented him from actually being one of those guys who were too shy or too weak to add any strength to their kisses. He knew what he wanted, and what he had to do to get it – and when the bell sounded above a shop door, his body reacted in the same way as hers did, their mind supplying the information that they should pull apart. His hands on her waist tightened again, but this time it was because he would have pulled her behind him out of any reason that might have arisen, but it was unnecessary, and he could focus on her again. For the moment, he, too, had forgotten that she was a free woman – that there was no Dante who could come and complain about what had just happened. But then of course he was reminded of that, and Viktor could feel smug satisfaction coursing through him. His expression remained unreadable towards her as she took his hands, though the corner of his lips did turn slightly upwards. They started walking again, and he absent-mindedly realised it was in the direction of his car. Her question made his smile turn slightly gentler, somehow realising that her new-found freedom still needed time to take wing. It is for me – is it for you? He turned his head to look at her as they walked slowly, their hands entwined. His heart was still slowing down from the kiss, and Viktor felt like it had been the most natural thing to do – the RIGHT thing to do. Now he only had to make her see that, too.
