( STATUS ) COMPLETE! Mira sighed heavily, adjusting the fit of her dress and gown. Shouldn't she be feeling nostalgic right about now? Shouldn't she be close to tears? This was the last day she'd ever spend at Vineheart as an official student; in a few days she'd be all packed up and then on a plane back to Bulgaria for the rest of the summer. No longer would Vineheart be her home anymore, at least not technically. Five years she'd spent here, but yet she couldn't bring herself to cry. Instead, all she wanted to do was laugh. Laugh hysterically. Every memory she'd made here was something she could probably die laughing about; her stomach hurt just thinking about it. All of the good things, like the pranks, the parties, the wine nights, and the rule breaking all made her giggle uncontrollably; all of the bad things, like the fights, the bad grades, her horrible breakup with Fred, the awful fight with Nada, and the time she thought she was pregnant -- she smiled at those too. Why cry when you could laugh at something that was as ridiculous as Vineheart? Whose idea was it to throw a bunch of spoiled brat royalty together, anyways? So many ups and downs, and all Mira wanted was to double over in uncontrollable laughter. But that wasn't the proper thing to do; the proper thing to do was to smile through the tears. Was that what everyone else was doing as they prepared for the graduation ceremony? Her roommates had left the room to give her space in getting ready for this huge moment -- they had another year to go, after all -- but for those who had fifth year roommates, were they talking about the past five years? Reminiscing? All Mira honestly wanted to do was get through the day and get hammered later in the evening that ended in a night with Fred. Some things never changed...except the person she was sleeping with, of course. Instead of random hookups, it was someone she was in love with, and could easily admit that to. Sadly, she wasn't exactly sure how this whole "relationship" thing was going to pan out...she knew with every fiber in her being that she wanted to be with him, but with him returning to Switzerland by his parent's demands, how would it work out? She wanted to be with him, yes, but she also didn't want to be holed up with just him in Switzerland next year, attending school knowing no one else but him. No, she'd rather stay in the States, far away from Bulgaria at least, maybe even taking a year off to travel the world. She had no desire for schooling, but of course it was expected of her. Would college be ten times better than Vineheart, or would it be far more difficult walking around freely as a princess? No doubt she would be treated differently, if she was recognized. And having bodyguards around her definitely tipped people off. She'd already been accepted to the University of Southern California -- a favorite of hers -- and, regrettably, Sofia University in Bulgaria. One was far away from home and with all of her friends, but Sofia was also her home...she had friends there as well. But being in Sofia meant constant attention from her mother, who would be cracking down on her wild child. That was that last thing Mira wanted. There was no point worrying about it on graduation day, though; right now she needed to be focused. And as her dark eyes flickered to the clock on the wall, Mira realized she was nearly late -- the ceremony would begin in approximately five minutes. With one last look at herself in the mirror, she rushed out of the room, down the familiar flight of stairs that led directly to the first floor, through the wide, heavy wooden doors of the gigantic Academy, and across the lawn to where the ceremony was taking place. She was certain of burning glares from both her mother and Headmistress Noell as she shuffled to her seat next to Nada and the prince of Portugal. She threw her twin sister a quick smile but, for the most part, ignored her. She couldn't concentrate on anything else, all of sudden, except for the stage looming in front of them. The ceremony began with sweet, sad orchestral tunes and proceeded with a speech by Headmistress Noell, who was quite possibly even more relieved to see this group of royalty go. And then the names began to be called, and before she knew it, Mira was following behind Nada to receive her diploma. When the diploma was given to her and she reached out to shake Headmistress Noell's hand, she thought she saw affection in the headmistress' eyes, and Mira felt her inside churn. The shit she put the headmistress through...well, she knew both of them wouldn't have it any other way. She squeezed the woman's hand and then left the stage, the same infamous smirk on her lips. The closing followed, and then they were throwing their caps into the air, and cheering and crying. And yet, Mira still felt like laughing. She found her family in the crowd and hugged each of them; surprisingly, her mother was far more emotional than she had predicted she would be. After a quick round of pictures that she totally didn't want to go through, Mira ripped off her gown, the heat starting to get to her. Her eyes scanned the lawn for Fred, but instead she spotted a face almost exactly like her own: Nada. Mira took a deep breath and meandered over to the girl, gingerly placing a hand on her shoulder. "Hey," she greeted, smiling slightly. |
