The morning of graduation came quicker than expected. Margherita had both been looking forward to and dreading this emotional, life changing event. Will was graduating and then he would be going off to college. She still had one year left at Vineheart, and being apart from Will was going to be harder than she thought. Tennis kept her busy most of the year, but who would she go to for help in her classes? That was how they had met after all – he had been her tutor for the entire year. It had literally been a life changing event. She had done a complete shift of her life it seemed, and those around her had never questioned just what effect the tutor had on Margherita since all of the changes were for the better. She got out of the shower and stood in front of her mirror, and began to blow-dry her hair. Her brown hair, after drying, fell past her shoulders in its natural wavy form. The dress she had picked out to wear for the graduation lay across her bed, still on the hanger. She slipped the dress on, before finishing her make-up in the mirror.
Today, she wanted everything to be perfect. Margherita was determined to make Will’s graduation a day and night he wouldn’t forget. She had found him the perfect gift and could not wait to give it to him. Since classes were over, she had not needed to worry about asking for the day off from Cathleen. As a matter of fact, most of her duties as Cathleen’s servant were just about done for the end of the semester. Everything but a few essentials had been packed up and was ready to be shipped back to Ireland. Margherita’s own belongings were sitting in her room, all packed up except for a couple of outfits and shoes. Her family was expecting her to visit within the next week – she was still not sure how much time she would need to spend with Cathleen before she could visit with her own family. She finally finished getting dressed, completing her ensemble with accessories. Taking one last look in the mirror, she headed to the hallway and out to the front lawn.
As the ceremony began, she sat attentively, swelling with pride in the thought that she would be doing this same walk in just a year. Will’s name was called and she held her applause until the appropriate time. As the ceremony ended, she waited as the crowd died down and then approached him with open arms. Hugging him tightly, she kissed his cheek. ”I am so proud of you!” She said to him softly.
