Urgh, Math. Again. She had far too many maths classes for her liking. It was only the first week back and yet she'd had two maths classes. Two, that was one more than one, and one she could scarcely tolerate. Especially with the nobles sitting behind her. The ones that knew of Aniela's antics that led to her being as good as a servant in her own home. They called her an embarrassment, a stray, an orphan, because her parents didn't want to know her. Aniela knew they were saying all these things, she was merely waiting for one of them to say something loud enough for Aniela to hear. Then they were going to pay for it. She didn't lie back and let people pass judgement on her and she wasn't a girl to be trifled with. Halfway through Math, the teacher had to consult with someone about their textbook. Giving those witches the perfect opportunity. " So how does it feel being the only royal here that doesn't have parents that love them? Aniela didn't have to guess where that barbie dream house voice was coming from. Turning on her chair Aniela gave her a long, cold glare. The girl burst into laughter and her friends joined in. Well, that was her warning. "If you think your so tough. let's see how you do without your friends." she spat the last word out like an insult. She was immediately up from her chair, opening the door to the classroom and waiting outside. She'd dealt with teachers hundreds of times before, she knew how to handle herself if their teacher came back. Eventually, maybe just to humour her, the girl followed suit. Aniela grabbed her by the shoulders, her penetrating glare only inches from the girl's very own eyes. "If you talk about my parents again, you'll really regret it." she hissed, feeling the full force of the girl's retaliation as she pushed her back. A fight ensued full of slaps and hair-pulling, not Aniela's style at all but it kept the girl at bay for long enough. Aniela grabbed the girl by her clothes and threw her into a separate hallway. The girl managed to stop herself getting hurt from the lockers in the nick of time. When she thought no one was around, Aniela drew back her fist ready to end this. The girl moved at the very last second and Aniela's blinding hit smashed into the face of another. "Oh my god." Aniela panicked, searching for the girl that had ran back to the classroom. Then she turned to face the person she'd just punched in the face for no reason. "I am so sorry, I .. I don't know what I can say. I'm sorry." she rambled, trying to get a look to see if she'd done any serious bruising. "I didn't mean to." though she knew that that wasn't the point. She couldn't believe what she'd done. She wouldn't have blamed him if he told the principal on her, though it wouldn't be the first time she'd gone to see good ol' Principal Norris.

Hold your head high, heavy heart CRACK. It was like one of those early Batman television programs, where the words “POW!” popped up on the screen. Tanner literally saw the word “POW!” light up in front of his eyes. He quickly threw his books to the ground – well, dropped them, but the papers in them flew everywhere. It looked like he had violently threw them throughout the entire hallway. His hand went up to his nose, grabbing it to try and halt any blood. Too late.
The girl who hit him – a petite ginger that obviously packed a punch – was apologizing, and Tanner was just shaking his head. He didn’t want her to feel bad because he knew it was an accident. She was trying to hit one of the bratty girls that were always picking on her. He pulled the sleeve of his black tee-shirt over his hand and used that to catch the blood out of his nose. “It’s okay.” He looked at the girl and then just asked, “Please pick up my books and come with me to the infirmary.” Then he added, “I don’t think I can manage all of it.”
He headed off towards the infirmary, not even really caring if she followed him. He wasn’t going to get her in trouble; he just felt that she owed him it to carry his stuff. He basically ran to the nurse. Tanner’s black shoes were probably creating fire on the floor due to the friction and speed.
Entering the office, Tanner watched the nurse get up in a hurry. She immediately asked him what had happened, and he said, “Ran into a door. Someone swung it open as I was walking.” The nurse took him into a private room and had him hold ice to his nose and gave him some tissues to catch the blood. “I feel like such a fool.”
As the blood stopped, about 7 minutes after getting there, the nurse came to check on him. “Can I have an excuse from this class, ma’am? I need to change my shirt because there’s blood all over it.” Tanner stood up, hoping that, when he went out to the main part of the office, the girl would be waiting for him. He wanted to talk to her a little bit.

Oh god, had she broken his nose? It didn't look broken, then again she'd never broken a nose before. Surprisingly. She couldn't see any blood but his hand flew to his nose before she could observe it. Whether he was shaking his head or not he couldn't stop Aniela feeling guilty. She hadn't meant to hit him, he was an innocent bystander that shouldn't have faced a bleeding nose just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The spite that naturally existed in Aniela told her that she hadn't wounded his hands so he should pick up his own damn books but she did owe him considering he was rushing to the infirmary with a bloody nose. Besides, the guy was gone before Aniela could so much as respond. For a long moment she just stood there staring at the books and papers, wondering why she should have to pick them up. She felt so stupid picking up someone else's things. This wasn't the nice girl she was a year ago, the one that would've picked up his stuff and took him to dinner. She was different now, she didn't help people. Grudgingly she picked everything up, everything to the last piece of paper that had flown and glided from his textbooks. She really had no choice but to wait for him. She had his books which presumably had all his schoolwork in. What would she want with that? Intent on just returning the books and leaving him, her arms were already reaching out for him to take everything off her hands when he came out of the door. There was a limit on her kindness. "I'm glad your alright. I think I'm gonna go give that girl a good kicking." she turned to go when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

Hold your head high, heavy heart The girl tried to get out of the nurse’s office as quickly as possible, but Tanner stopped her. “Wait.” He looked around to see that the nurse was busy with another patient. He organized all of his stuff, while introducing himself. “I’m Tanner. What’s your name?” Then he joked, “I’m already acquainted with your fist. Quite a nice fist. We had a lovely conversation.” He then offered, “And I would like to take you to lunch so that I can get to know the rest of you.” As soon as he said that, he realized how horrendous that it sounded. He let out a deep, annoyed at himself sigh, and then said, “What I mean is, I want to talk?” He felt like a complete jerk.
He took a glance down at himself noticing that there was no blood on his jeans but there was some all over his sleeve and front of his shirt. “Before you give me an answer – you can think about it. How about you come with me to my dorm so I can change my shirt? Then I can drive us somewhere.” He picked up his stuff and then opened the door and held it for her.
As they started to walk down the hallway, Tanner looked over at her and told her, “Your hair is absolutely gorgeous. I love ginger hair.” He smiled a little, the right corner of his mouth curling into a smile. Then his smile faded when he said, “I’m sorry that those girls always pick on you. They… they don’t know what it’s like to actually be a REAL person.”

Aniela had a dark, penetrating glare as the guy tried to stop her from leaving. She'd wanted to leave, how dare he try to stop her. What, did he want her to categorize his folders too? She thought sardonically. "If it's so nice then how come your nose wasn't impressed?" she countered, raising an eyebrow. She had no idea where this was coming from. The only reason Aniela thought he might want to know her name at first was to tell on her. Since he wasn't doing that, it made no sense at all. "Talk?" she repeated the word like it was a foreign word she was unfamiliar with. Switching to a different attitude, she decided to play his game for a second. "Alright suppose I came to your dorm with you. What makes you think I want to stand at your doorway awkwardly while your changing?" it was a fair query. He was a heap of questionable motives. She was used to handling herself around guys that thought it a cute little fantasy to have Aniela swept off her feet. Never going to happen. She contently walked through the door he opened for her though, after all it was a big deal that he was still being a gentleman after she'd pummeled him. At least he'd never think her incapable. "Thanks." her voice was clipped, she wasn't used to compliments. She thought her hair looked more gnome-ish than decent. Though she knew it was ranked way better than Aubrey's. When Tanner mentioned those girls, something inside Aniela got defensive. She halted in her steps and turned to him sharply. "Let's get one thing straight. I don't need your 'sorry', I don't need pity, I don't need sympathy, not from anyone. So just lay off, ok?" her eyes narrowed harshly. She was independent in every sense of the word and those girls could be easily taken care of without over-friendly people like him trying to offer their apologies for them. He'd definitely struck a nerve.

Hold your head high, heavy heart This girl was going to be difficult. But the thing is, Tanner knew it. He had been watching her since the first time that he met her. But being awkward and shy, Tanner never approached her. Also, he knew that she was tougher than most girls, and, that if he approached her, normally, she would ignore people that she thought were just screwing around with her. He knew that he had to be very careful in his word choice and everything because one wrong move and she would either punch him (again) or never speak to him.
“Ah, my nose was impressed. That’s why it spilled its innermost feelings to your fist.” He smiled. She then asked what she was going to do while he changed, and he shrugged. “No, you don’t have to stand in the doorway, but, like, it is only going to take about 15 seconds for me to find another shirt. I just want to change and then we can be on our way.” He smiled at her.
As they got up to his room, he looked over at her and told her, “I’m not going to take you to the principal. It was an accident, and that’s obvious.” He advised, “But you shouldn’t fight with those girls. They would take you to the cleaners.” He shrugged a little. “Because honestly, you could knock their asses out, yeah. But they could ruin your worldwide reputation.” He looked over at her. “Not that I have even a reputation at all, so I don’t know anything…” That was the truth. Tanner kept to himself so much that if he ever did something big, it would shock everyone.
When Tanner apologized for the mean girls, Aniela dismissed his apology, saying that she didn’t need it. He squinted at her. “Seriously? I know that you can take care of yourself.” He decided that he was going to take a different route with her. Usually, he was a soft spoken man, but this time, he was going to just tell her like it was. “I wasn’t apologizing because it would make a difference. I know that they are always going to be total bitches. And I don’t feel sorry for you.” He walked into his room, while taking his shirt off and walked back out while putting a new one on. “I don’t think you’re some delicate flower that need nurtured and watered and blah-dee-friggin-blah.” He checked his pockets for his wallet and cellphone and then said, “Let’s get out of here.”
He opened the door for her, and then, turned around and locked it. “I forgot to lock my dorm once two years ago, and it was a mess when we came back. There was toilet paper EVERYWHERE. It was like when you see people do that to trees in the movies.” He shook his head, “It was … something else. I didn’t even get angry. I just laughed. It was my fault for not locking the suite.”
As they started off towards where Tanner’s car was parked, he asked, “What kind of food do you like?” He didn’t care what she picked, he just wanted off of campus for a bit. And, by the time that they got back, it would be spread all over the school that Tanner was beat up by a girl. At least this way, he didn’t have to deal with hearing it infiltrate the minds of everyone at Vineheart. It just would be there waiting for him. “So…” he opened her door for her to the car. When he got in, he finished his sentence. “Where did you learn to punch like that?” He chuckled a little.

As they got up to his room, Aniela scoffed at his mention at the principal. "I wouldn't care if you did report me, it's not like it'd be the first time I'd be sent to see Norris. He's nothing, just a bag of scare tactics to try to keep the royals in line." the guy wasn't even worth fretting over. He was just a guy after all, like any other. Looking at this guy, he looked like he might not even know what the school principal looked like. He probably thought detention was just a period of isolation for prisoners. He didn't look like the coolest of guys. Putting on a new shirt hadn't helped either actually. Aniela liked her rough and domineering guys, the little bit of blood made him look a little more macho. Unimpressed with his spiel of a speech, Aniela simply ended it by finishing with "Good, because I'm not."
Her shrug was one of disinterest. She was only spending time with him because she felt guilty for punching him. It was midday - nowhere had good stuff to eat at midday. "Put a scotch in my hand and I'm happy." Aniela drawled, food wasn't really a priority for her that moment. Alcohol was increasingly proving to be the ideal prescription when she was feeling evasive. With her arms still folded she made shifted awkwardly into his car. "You ask a lot of questions." she observed in no particular tone, just speaking her mind. "As for the punching, if your not firm with people they walk all over you. Dual congratulations are in order by the way. One for surviving the hit and the second for getting me into the car." not many had endured her tongue of spite long enough to follow through on any plans to spend time with her. Aniela was just waiting for him to leave and be the same disappointment that every acquaintence of hers eventually became.
There was a question to determine what kind of royal he was. The fun thing about the question was that nobody expected a royal to ask it or to be concerned with the answer. She decided that the guy had earned her attention long enough for her to give it a whirl. "Would you marry someone much richer or much poorer than you?" she asked as if it were as natural as asking 'how are you?' there were positives to each answer, it was just which one he would go for. Considering the sizes of their two great countries, it was hard to tell which of them would be richer. Aniela's country had more inhabitable land but Finland was larger. Resting her head against her fist as she leaned against the car window, she looked at her soft features in her reflection.
She was a ghoul of banished memories. A broken soul. Inside was a little girl wanting to be a careless, playful child. Royal expectations had shackled her. Thinking about it just about killed her inside, so she didn't. It was so long ago but it was all coming back to her. She had to dampen it quickly before anything pricked the slightest bit of visible emotion. She didn't waste her time on the nonsenses of her past anyway. "Can't you drive any faster? There's an angry army of snails behind us." that spark of dry wit had made her recall where she was and the attitude she had still to pull off at least until she got home.

Hold your head high, heavy heart She was shaping up to be more difficult than he had imagined. Tanner, while he liked a challenge, wasn’t usually up for a challenge that just didn’t want to give in. There was a difference between “a chemistry experiment” that was failing and his attempt at “getting to know” Aniela. He was a guy that usually gave up when he saw that something was impossible. A lot of people kept persevering, but if Tanner saw something as impossible, he didn’t waste his time. Work smarter, not harder, so to speak. But he didn’t think that Aniela was impossible. He just thought that she had a rough exterior. If he could put up with the thorns as he pushed through the garden, he would eventually get to that perfect red rose in the middle. And, to him, it would be worth it. Especially since he had silently wanted to pursue Aniela since he had seen her for the very first time.
She said that she enjoyed scotch and he smiled. “Scotch, eh? My grandfather likes scotch. I’m a rum kind of guy myself.” He rose an eyebrow and then backed out of the parking spot. He started to take off towards a little bar that he knew. It was in a more dangerous part of town, but he knew the owner, and the owner didn’t care if Tanner drank there all night – because he knew that Tanner wouldn’t do anything stupid. They actually had better-than-decent food, and it was somewhere that just about no one from Vineheart would actually dare to enter. A hole in the wall. Not exactly a place where royalty went.
She congratulated him for dealing with not only the punch but also her – and actually getting her into the car. He smiled and said, “My nose is fine. It didn’t even bruise really. Which is nice, as my face is much too pretty to endure torture like that.” The truth was that Tanner didn’t think his face was pretty at all. To him, he looked like a rectangle with hair – and his chin was oversized. But it was the face that he was given at birth, and he never planned on changing that. Plastic surgery, in his opinion, was an escape from reality. If one can’t handle the face they were given, then that person probably couldn’t handle much else. “You’re difficult, yes. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t see you as a worthwhile person to get to know.” He shrugged. “You’ve always seemed interesting to me. Quiet, but with attitude.”
She asked a strange question – would he marry someone that was richer or poorer than he? He wasn't sure if she meant for him to choose one, but to him, there was no choice involved. He didn’t even have to think about the answer he was going to give. He immediately answered, “Yes, if I loved her. I would marry anyone that I loved. I don’t care about her class or money or power. I don’t even care about age.” He thought that it was pretty funny how she asked it as if it was a normal question that people asked on a daily conversational basis. Hey, how was your weekend? Would you marry someone who… He turned it around on her. “What about you?” Then he asked, randomly, “Did you ever have an imaginary friend?” He answered before she could turn it around on him, “I did. He was the only friend I had for ages when I was younger.”
She then insulted his safe driving, and he quickly took a turn onto a back road that would lead them to the same place, even though that it would take a couple extra minutes – if he went the speed limit. He pulled over and pressed a button, taking the top down off of the car. Then, as soon as it was secured, he reached over and made sure that Aniela was buckled in. Flooring it, the dust kicked up behind them and Tanner felt free. He loved the feeling of wind all around him, which was why he wanted a motorcycle so badly. He had driven the road so much that he felt comfortable, even at that speed to throw one of his hands in the air, catching the wind in his fingertips.
He pulled into the parking lot behind the old looking buildings and put the top up on his car. Then he got out and ran around to open Aniela’s door. He extended his hand to help her out of the car because it was the polite thing to do. Then he led her to the bar – MacGuinty’s Irish Pub – and walked straight up to the bar. The owner walked right over and handed Tanner a Captain Morgan and Coke and then looked over at Aniela, as she was a new face. Then he looked at Tanner, and Tanner simply said, “I won’t tell you that she won’t be trouble. But I will tell you that it won’t be any trouble you should be worried about.” He laughed and then looked over at Aniela and back at the man behind the bar. “Get the lady at Tom Collins, with plenty of Scotch in it.” He added, “Annie loves scotch.” Tanner never got the permission to call her anything but Aniela, but he didn’t think that he needed permission to do anything – because she wasn’t going to give him permission. If he was timid, he wasn’t going to stand a chance with her. And Tanner wanted his chance.
Tanner then asked the owner, “Do you have any of that ridiculous cheese cake here today?” He looked over at Aniela and said, “His wife makes amazing cheesecake. Ah-MAY-zing. I’ve never had anything like it anywhere.” The owner laughed and then walked into the kitchen and called out that it would be a couple seconds because it was all the way back in the coolers. Tanner then jumped off of the bar stool and walked over to the very, very old juke box and picked a song. It was “Then Came You” by Dionne Warwick and The Spinners. Tanner walked back over to Aniela and took her hand. “Dance with me?” He laughed because he knew it seemed really stupid. But he felt like being a kid and doing something really stupid. “No one else is in here.” He paused and said, “Well, except Murph, but he’s the owner. He’s seen it all.” He pulled gently on her hand – just a little. “Come on.”

“Are you trying to imply that scotch is a drink for old people? Because you’ll pay for that one.” Though the words formed a threat, the tone of her voice was teasing. She knew scotch wasn’t a popular choice compared to others but hell, scotch ruled. So she was going to drink it. She was genuinely disappointed when Tanner told her that his nose wasn’t even bruised though. Not because she wanted to hurt him. No, the guy had done nothing wrong. The adrenalin rush that came from hurting people only coursed through her when it was someone deserving – or she was bored. The reason she was disappointed was because it meant she wasn’t punching hard enough, so when she met someone that truly did deserve a punch to the face she needed to do it much harder. She reasoned that it must’ve been because she held back a little when she realized she’d accidentally hit Tanner. Maybe if the hit had reached the face of the girl she’d meant to hit then it would’ve been much harder to shrug off and would have bruised a little. Impressively he took her question in his stride and didn’t hold back in answering. That earned him a slight amused look to grace Aniela’s features for a short moment. Her head started spinning metaphorically as he asked his question about imaginary friends. The aggression inside her wanted to take offence, to suggest that he was presuming she had no real friends growing up. For some reason she decided to cut the guy a little slack, seeing as he’d taken her advice to drive faster.
Aniela’s body was pushed backward as he sped up. She could feel the air drastically shove past her. As if the world was passing them by and only they were moving forward. Now that was adrenalin. She practically kicked the door open with excitement. When Tanner went to help her out – ignoring the hand – she exasperated to him “I didn’t know you had it in you. Are you trying to impress me or do you drive like that all the time?” not that it mattered, it was fun anyway. She might stay in his company just for more rides like that since Aniela couldn’t drive herself. The experience was going non-native to the usual way Aniela spent her evenings. He spoke differently in the bar to the way he’d spoken to her so far. For one he was a lot more relaxed and secondly he referred to her as ‘the lady’ which got Aniela laughing “The Lady? Oh please.” she scoffed, believing that the endmost of their conversation and night together was drawing to a close after one drink. The scotch hanging around her mouth almost leaped from her lips as he effectively gave her a new nickname. There was a gap between her lips, not big enough to show a jaw-dropping statement had been made but definitely one that acknowledged his daring mistake. She moved nearer to him once her face de-paralyzed, about to warn him out of turning her name into a colloquialism like he did. Before she could Tanner had already turned to the owner and asked about cheesecake. Aniela smirked, thinking that it was a good save.
There was no escaping it though, she loved cheesecake. It was a weakness of hers, Aniela couldn’t make cheesecakes very well but she was very talented at making cheese pies. Especially with feta cheese, but that was mostly a delicacy in Greece. She’d met very few people that liked feta cheese. “A wife that makes cheesecake, sounds like me in the future.” a vulnerable glimmer of a smile leaked through that said she could see it in her mind’s eye as she mentioned it. Aniela could already see what was occupying Tanner’s thoughts from the moment he jumped off the stool. Quick observation that the place only really had a good bar and food, both of which could be collected from the counter, and the noticing of the jukebox in the corner, made his next move quite predictable. ”I think sitting is sufficient” she argued, feeling suddenly very conscious that she might be a bad-ish dancer. With a defeated sigh after his come on, she slipped off the barstool and allowed him to take her under his control.

Hold your head high, heavy heart “I’m not implying that scotch is for old people. I’m just stating that it absolutely is.” He smiled playfully at her. Tanner was tired of holding back and being the polite gentleman that he was supposed to be. Aniela was a difficult girl, but he was going to figure out the way to crack this case. And, while still practicing his manners and morals, Tanner was going to make things work. When he told Aniela that his nose didn’t bruise, she actually looked disappointed that it didn’t work out. He knew that she didn’t mean to hit him, but it’s like she got some sort of satisfaction out of leaving her mark on people. While Tanner went about leaving his mark in a very different way – through volunteer work, good friendship, and love – he totally understood wanting to leave one’s mark on the world. Instead of pressing the matter, though, he said nothing. He didn’t want to end up WITH a bruise.
She commented on his driving and asked him another either/or question. This time, he replied, “Yes.” Raising an eyebrow, he explained, “I know that road really well, and I usually take it quickly like that. But usually when there is someone else in the car, I won’t put their life in danger. But…” He looked over at her with just his eyes just so that it wasn’t obvious. He wanted to know what her reaction was going to be, “…yes, I was trying to show you that I wasn’t all good and well behaved as well.” That was a round-about way for him to say that he was trying to impress her.
Aniela declared that she would be a wife that makes cheesecake in the future, and Tanner rose an eyebrow. “So someday, you plan on settling down. Getting yourself a husband. Popping out a couple of kids?” He nudged her a little with his elbow. And then he said in all seriousness, “I want to be a father someday. Settle down. Someday.” Then he added, “If I met the right woman.”
Aniela protested for a very few seconds, but Tanner won. He smiled proudly, winning, as she reluctantly got off of the barstool. But she let him lead, which was the first time she probably had let a man have control in years – or at least that’s how it seemed to him. Tanner was careful to not put his hand to low on her back because that meant he was trying to put the moves on her, but too high meant just friends, so he didn’t want to do that either. They started off a relatively safe distance away from each other, but as the song continued, Tanner pulled her closer, using the ridiculous volume as an excuse to be close. “I don’t know what you’re afraid of. You’re a lovely dancer. You haven’t stepped on my feet yet.”
As they continued their dancing, Tanner looked into her eyes, and he smiled gently. Suddenly, he heard Murph loudly say, “Ay, you two. The song ended over a minute ago. Cheesecake’s gettin’ warm.” Tanner blushed a little, not realizing that the song was over, and led her over to the bar where they were before. He didn’t let go of her hand until she was on the stool, and then he climbed on his again. Murph had pulled a slice of every flavour out, and Tanner started with the strawberry. He took a bite and then smiled because it was delicious. Then he pulled a bite off and offered it to Aniela.
“Glad to be out of class for a while?” he asked, trying to be casual with the conversation. The truth was, Tanner wanted to be in this position for a while – alone with Aniela – but he never thought that he would get here. So he never figured out what to talk about once he was alone with her. But it only took a couple seconds for Murph to cut in and ask how long they were together – saying that Annie must be special because she was the first girl that Tanner ever brought to the pub. Tanner paused, not sure what to say because they weren’t together, but he didn’t want Aniela to be offended if he said that they weren’t together in the wrong way. “Um, Annie actually punched me in the face today…” Murph laughed and replied that Tanner probably deserved it – and if he hadn’t done something, he WILL eventually (“boyfriends always do something to deserve that”). Tanner shook his head. “Don’t you be putting ideas in her head, Murph. I’m a good guy.”

Aniela's first impression of this new Tanner, the one that she was in the bar with, was probably most accurately described as 'talks a lot'. She wasn't used to a guy so interested in her. It made her feel uninspired to try hard, which was a weird feeling with guys. She always made the moves, with every one of her multiple partners. Aniela hadn't even considered the thought that this 'gentleman' beside her could send them flying through the motorway past the speed limit. Maybe there was more to him than met the eye. In her mind she could still see the adorable way he ran to the nurses' office with a bloody nose. She didn't know why she found it cute, maybe that spark of vulnerability. The knowledge that the guy was human and not some big tough guy that tried to shrug it off. Aniela thought she might've just cracked how she liked her guys, rebellious with a human side.
"I don't like good and well-behaved, it takes the adventure out of it." eying her empty glass of scotch she asked politely for another and watched as the glass was refilled. "You know maybe it's the scotch talking; but you simply amaze me. I express a desire to be a wife, in spite of the fact I'm only sixteen, and you don't look at me like I'm completely crazy. In fact you reciprocate those desires. You might actually be one in a million." a smile tinged in her cheeks. She was actually sad to find that their dancing had come to an end and that was a terrifying thought. She wasn't sure about the closeness though and became tense when Tanner brought her into him. After that she was happy to wriggle her hand out of his and let Tanner feast on cheesecake whilst Aniela went to put a new song on.
She chose 'Don't Stop Believing' since she was sick of hearing the Glee version. She had nothing against Glee she just wanted to hear the classics. Besides, if she wanted to hear others sing it, she'd sing it herself. She was rarely off key when she sung but she never sung in front of people. When Aniela used to be allowed to go to the parties at the Polish palace they'd normally have Aniela pick the songs then have some dull operatic singer perform on her behalf. Rejoining Tanner at the bar, her scotch was reliably waiting for her. She barely gave Tanner any looks while drinking it, in fact she clutched to her scotch like a lover. The coldness of the glass quelled the warmth that still lingered on her palm from Tanner holding her hand. She told herself not to read too much into it, she didn't obsess or fantasize about anyone.
Aniela went for the flavour of cheesecake furthest away from the strawberry. She saw potential for the whole awkward exchanging glances routine. Instead she focused on the cheesecake. She dipped her fork into a lovely-textured lemon cheesecake. It was brilliant, magnificent. Not the best she'd ever tasted but with the barman playing host she wasn't going to say that. Pleasure flooded through her features. It had to be forced down since Aniela didn't want Tanner knowing she was impressed. That would be showing some sort of weakness. Cheesecake was a huge weakness of hers. The Queen of Sweden, her aunt, always loved having Aniela over. Especially now her cousin Annalie was at University, her aunt's chef was always available to make cheesecake for her and help her renew her talent for making them herself.
"Class? You want to talk about class?" Aniela frowned, that was the last thing she wanted to talk about. It really wasn't the most fun topic in the world. Prior to today she wouldn't have talked to Tanner, period. He seemed too decent. Then Aniela heard the man Tanner called 'Murph' cutting into the conversation, apparently just asking to put his foot in it. "My name is not Annie. Keep using that nickname and I swear I'll break up with you, Tanny." she was playing along with Murph's assumption that they were dating but she was deadly serious about the name. She let it go once, now he was pushing it. There was a slight aggression in her tone. If she was going to listen anymore of this she was going to need vodka. "Hit me with some vodka before I do hit him." she smiled innocently at Murph, downing the rest of her scotch.

We just now got the feeling that we’re meeting for the first time. Aniela said that she preferred adventure over good and well behaved, and Tanner replied, “But honestly, sometimes adventure can get tiring. You have to have a day, sometime, when you just sit down on the couch and do nothing. Unwind.” He looked over at her and then suggested, “Maybe one day, I can show you just how much fun boring can be.” He smiled a little. Tanner had long fantasized about time that he could be alone with her. Maybe they would be staying in, but what he would want to do would be far from boring. Maybe. He didn’t know Aniela’s experience in that department, but it was probably more than his. Still, it was nothing that he was going to dwell on.
She suggested that he was one in a million because he didn’t make fun of her for her future plans. Tanner smiled and replied, “I’m actually one in seven billion.” He looked at Murphy and asked, “The world’s population is supposed to hit seven billion on Halloween this year, right?” The bartender nodded and said that he believed that’s what he heard. So, turning back to Aniela, Tanner joked, “Don’t make me any less rare than I already am.”
When Aniela chose the original “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey, Tanner just about jumped out of his seat. That song was a classic karaoke hit in the United States, as he found out the more and more he attended random karaoke bars while he was out and about. It seemed like every night ended with a drunken rendition of that song, the words slurred and the notes not even close to being hit. That being said, Tanner wasn’t drunk, and he wasn’t a bad singer. So he started belting out the chorus as soon as it hit. But then he remembered that Aniela had put the song on and she probably wanted to actually hear Journey sing it, so his mouth snapped shut, blocking all sound from exiting his body. He didn’t want her to get annoyed with her singing.
So they started eating the cheese cake, but when Tanner offered the strawberry to Aniela, she seemed to ignore him, so he finished that one on his own, especially since he wasn’t going to be sore if she ate that entire lemon piece. He hated lemon.
“I don’t really want to talk about class.” It was the truth. But the thing was, he didn’t know much about Aniela outside of that class room. He knew that he thought she was beautiful and that she was a tough cookie, but what were her interests? She seemed to like cheesecake and music. Other than that, Tanner had nothing.
When Tanner called her Annie, Aniela not so
lovingly threatened to punch him if he ever called her that and he laughed nervously. He looked at the bartender and said, “She’s serious.” He then looked over at Aniela and told her, “I won’t do it again, Aniela.” After a few more drinks, Tanner actually switched to Coke because he was going to be driving, and the bartender brought them out some French fries, pizza, and mozzarella sticks. He wanted to make sure that Tanner was okay to drive so that he didn’t get pulled over. Murphy didn’t need to lose his business, get fined, or feel responsible (if something worse happened), just because he let Tanner leave completely smashed. When Tanner felt like he was ready to go, he took Aniela’s hand to help her down off of the stool, and then he reached for his wallet, but Murphy insisted that everything was on the house that day – because Tanner had brought a special lady to the pub, meaning that the pub was special to him. Tanner figured that it was that plus the fact that he usually tipped very heavily – sometimes, if his bill was $100, he would actually tip $100, just so that Murph could maybe take his wife out for a nice dinner or something. When Murphy’s back was turned for a second, Tanner slipped a $100 bill under his glass and then led Aniela out of the pub. When they got in the car, he back out onto that dirt road and continued further away from Vineheart. He took them far into the woods, and then he pulled over near this cliff that hung over some water. There was a tree so they could be shaded. “Not as exciting as the Pub – or maybe it is. I don’t know. Haha.”[/blockquote][/blockquote] Words: 762 Tag: annie Additional Info:Lyrics from: “For the First Time” by The Script Template by: Kaity!!

"Hm, your not that rare if you can make lame jokes." she smirked, shaking her head as if he was so typical. She was pleased to find that he was taking her away soon, the fresh air would hopefully make her head stop thumping from the alcohol. When she first saw the cliff her first thought was how cool it would be to dive straight off it. Not in a suicide way, recreationally. Cliff diving was fun, she tried it in Spain once. The water looked so beautiful and shiny, it was almost picturesque. Her defensiveness was wavering even if it was just a little. "It's nice." she shrugged, hugging her arms though she wasn't cold. She meant what she said, it was really nice. The fact that they were secluded and alone, absent of disturbance, it made her want to send signals that she wanted to be kissed. But there was no way she could've done that without error. Communicating wasn't her forte.
But there was no harm in just holding herself and staying quiet, so she opted to do that. As the engine died down Aniela shuffled in her seat. The cold air that had brushed against her hair before was prevented from coming in the car by Aniela rolling the window up. She tried to remember how much she drank, she knew it hadn't been enough to make her crazy. A few glasses of scotch, a few of vodka. Enough to make her head spin but not enough to make her lose all sense of decency. She felt stable at least. She associated that with the mozzarella sticks she was offered before she left. There were so many trees around them, with only one long dirtpath for the car to drive through. It certainly wasn't a place to play tennis, she could imagine all the balls getting stuck up in the hefty looking branches and heaps of leaves.
She could sniff the heat flowing out of the radiator which made her arms loosen around her. As long as they didn't go outside, she doubted they'd be cold. Looking around, she knew exactly what this reminded her of. "Although, driving a girl into the deep end of the woods doesn't exactly instill confidence." she teased, knowing with pride that if he so much as touched her without her permission she'd break his arm. She also knew that she couldn't shake the first judgement she had of him, that he wasn't daring enough to do something so out of line. So it was safe to say she didn't care where he took her. Besides, it beat being at home by herself. What the hell she casually disregarded her previous concerns and turned toward Tanner.
She stared at him long and hard. After a while Aniela thought she'd frozen, like her thoughts had paralyzed her and were telling her not to do it. An instruction she was going to ignore. She grabbed Tanner's shirt and pulled him towards her, her lips finding his in a fast and fierce motion.

We just now got the feeling that we’re meeting for the first time. Tanner immediately noticed that Aniela had shivered. He wondered if she was doing it to see what he would do – flirting, maybe. It didn’t matter if she was really cold or if it was just a ploy to see his reaction. Tanner was, above all, a gentleman, so he did what any true prince charming would do: take off his jacket and give it to her. “Here.” He put it around her shoulders and smiled gently at her. “You could have said something about being cold if you wanted. No shame in that.” He teased a little and promised, “I won’t tell anyone that cool autumn air is a weakness of yours.” He winked at her. He thought about reaching his hand up and touching her cheek or moving her hair – any little touch to show her that he was feeling something. But, if Tanner was completely honest with himself, he knew that Aniela could kick the living (and dead!) shit out of him. The punch in the face after class today was one thing; no one was going to make fun of him for it because it was an honest accident, and he knew that she would definitely back him up on that. But if she pulverized him for real, he had mght as well end his life because no one was going to date him then.
Aniela said that the cliff was nice but a little horror movie creepy because they were so deep into seclusion – it was just like one of those movies where the killer actually takes his victims to the woods as if it was to seduce them but what the girl actually expected wasn’t going to happen. Tanner laughed at her, and replied, “Yeah, you know, because I’m a super-secret serial killer and all.”
There was a long pause, and Aniela was sort of staring at Tanner. He looked at her out of the corner of her eye, but just in time to feel her pull on his shirt and then her lips finding his – almost without a problem. Tanner’s eyes were open for a couple seconds as they kissed, out of shock, but then they naturally closed, just as his hands naturally went to her waist. He leaned towards her so that she wasn’t pulling on him so much, and then his hands moved to that mess of red hair that he loved so much. But they quickly found her shoulders and pulled her away for a second.
“Wow.” He let out a pleased sigh. He smiled, but he knew the real reason why he stopped. It wasn’t because he wanted to let her know how pleased he was with the kiss. No matter how amazing he did think it was (his head was spinning!), but it was out of respect. “That was… I liked that.” He paused. “But not here, Aniela. Not in the car. Not after drinking.” He pushed some of her hair behind her ear. “You’re so radiant.” He smiled and let out a light sigh. “I respect you and I don’t want you to think that I took you out, got you drunk, and brought you to this semi-secluded-romantic spot to take advantage of you…” He hoped that she didn’t take this the wrong way – he wanted her. He just wanted things to be done in the right order.
So he quickly came up with an idea. “Aniela, can I take you on a date tomorrow evening? I’ll pick you up at your dorm room at 4:30?”

"A date?" she practically spat the word out like he'd asked her about mutilation. A frown ensued then silence. Scrunching up her face uneasily she didn't feel exactly generous in giving him more of her time when he'd just turned her down. "I don't do dates." she said pointedly, turning away from him again. Romance wasn't a language she understood very well, granted, but she was sure that when a girl took the bold move in offering herself you didn't push her away then ask her on a date. Her heart didn't need shareholders, she was perfectly fine being single. She wasn't going to go on dates and do the whole boyfriend/girlfriend thing somewhere down the line, so to accept his invitation would've been wrong.
Running her fingers through her hair she tried to focus on the outside and not on what just happened. She didn't want to think about how he called her radiant. She didn't understand what he had been talking about, she was nothing of the kind. Ironically, Aniela had done stuff in a car and had done stuff while drunk, the words Tanner chose implied that Tanner had done neither of those things when he turned her down. Aniela's head was already telling her that she didn't want a guy so boring and unadventurous. Since she had no other voice guiding her, that was the one she had to live by. "I think you should take me back to my dorm now." her voice was clipped and mumbling.
It was then she remembered she was wearing his coat. Her skin wasn't made of steel, it did get cold now and then, but she was going to pretend she was fine because it felt far too awkward to wear his coat at this time. She shrugged out of it and threw it in the back seat. She hadn't even been drinking that much! It made no sense to her and needless to say, this was the first time a guy had ever said anything like that to her before. She couldn't make sense of it. She played with the tips of her hair and subconsciously started to chew on it a little out of nervousness. She couldn't see why he loved her hair so much, to her it looked like the same mangled nest of red hair she had in her first year at Vineheart.
"Besides, maybe I like being taken advantage of." if the classification of 'taking advantage' was altered to mean an example of mutual advantageous relationships then it was her favourite kind. She opened the car door, her face looking so distracted by this situation. "I'm going for a walk." she announced before closing it behind her. She didn't care much whether he thought it was a good idea or not, she needed a deviation from this. All she could constantly come back to was the fact that he wanted to date her, which alone was strange, she never went on dates. She never needed to. She believed you could tell all you needed to know about somebody by exploring the physical aspect. She imagined a date with Tanner she'd have to be interested in hearing about his life, his family, blah blah. Then he'd ask about hers, which she really didn't want to go into.
She strolled through the forest alone in thought.
