Intelligent* Patrick was a natural student, even though he didn?t try. He never wanted to be at the top of his class when he was in high school, and when he went to college, it was just a party for him. Still, he did well and made well above average grades. But once he hit his master?s program, he actually worked at it. And, when he was doing his thesis for his doctorate, he concentrated so hard, and actually passed it with flying colours
Family-oriented* Patrick was always close with his siblings and respected his parents. And when it comes the fact that he lied about his short-live marriage -- while it didn?t work out, he was very devoted to her at the time. He just never told his family because he didn?t think that she would fit in with them right away. And he wanted to make sure that his nuclear family was okay with her before Patrick would reveal the truth.
Cavalier* Every since his marriage fell apart, Patrick has been pretty laid back about his love life. He told many girls he loved them, and then he left them. He would be with a girl for a couple months, but when she would want to take things to the next level, he would find something to drive a wedge between them. He?s actually lost track of how many girlfriends that he?s had.

History
Patrick lead a particularly normal life in Ireland, without much drama or problems. He was a good student, but not good enough to be the best, and he was okay with that. He never got detention or suspension/expulsion, but he once got into a fight. It just so happened that said fight was with his brother, Liam, when they were in the same physical education class. Apparently while playing a game of dodge ball, Liam just hauled off and wailed on Patrick with the ball, while Patrick was sitting on the bench. When Patrick fought back, yes, the teacher had to break it up, but since they were brothers, he just saw it as sibling rivalry. Besides everyone knew that the Shay family was tight knit. The boys were always close, and they were very protective over their younger sister, Ciara.
All of the Shay children went to college, and all but Patrick went out of the country. While he was living in the dorms, though, he met an American girl namd Michaela. They hit it off and got married in secret right away. But he later found that she just wanted to marry him because her Visa was going to run out. After finding out that she was using him, Patrick and she quickly got divorced and she got deported. He never told his parents about this marriage because it didn?t last long enough. He was nineteen at the time, and felt young and stupid, so he decided to not let them pick at him for it. Besides, he didn?t want his parents to feel like he couldn?t be trusted.
From that point forward in his romantic life, he never committed to anyone. For about ten years, he would date girls, but when things would get serious, he would find some excuse that they weren?t good enough for him. Their toes were too short, or their hair had too much frizz. They didn?t have the right family. Any excuse to move on to another girl or to be by himself for a while. He was like this until he was 28, when he met a girl who was on a trip around Europe for the summer.
He had been a bartender for the summer, when he wasn?t teaching. It was something he did to get him out of the house and to make a little bit of extra spending money. The girl and two of her friends were on the trip, but Patrick was particularly enamored with the one named Klara. He gave her his phone number, even though he was working, and when she called him the next day, he asked her out for that very night. They hit it off very well, and for the remaining two and a half weeks that she was in Ireland and the UK. And when they parted, Patrick promised her that he would keep contact with her, and even fly over to see her when he had time off from work for the holidays. But he didn?t keep his promise. At first, he would call her every day, and then a couple times a week. Then it became a couple times a month. After that, he called her once the following year, and they never spoke again. From time to time, he would think of her, and he never took her number out of his phone. But he would never contact her, convinced that she had forgotten about him. And, in his mind, if she didn?t forget about him, she had to hate him.
